Apple.com redesign wins .Net ‘redesign of the year’ award
Friday, January 11, 2008 - 12:19 PM EDT

Apple Store Online"Apple's redesigned website took a prestigious .Net Award this year, along with another site – WillItBlend, which demonstrated how to turn an iPhone into pulp," Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK.

"Apple took the award for 'Best Redesign of the Year,' beating the Manchester United, New York Times, Waterstones and Guardian Unlimited websites for the privilege," Evans reports.

"MySpace took the 'infamy' award for 'eyeball-bleeding bad design.' Runners-up in this category included Internet Explorer, Microsoft, Windows Vista and Amazon," Evans reports.

Vista was only a runner-up!?

Jan 11, 08 - 01:32 pm Comment from: MacSmiley

Love the irony. Isn't .Net a Microsoft "innovation" ??

"Runners-up in this category included Internet Explorer, Microsoft, Windows Vista and Amazon."

Misery attracts companies.

It's not the NY Mets.
Manchester United have been declared the world's richest club once more, pipping Spanish giants Real Madrid by just 12 euros.
Although Madrid laid claim to the honour for a couple of years, United officials believe their gross revenue of £245million in the year to June 2007 just exceeds that of Real if average conversion rates during the 12-month period in question are used.
While the argument may be viewed as semantic by some, it means a lot to the clubs involved at a time when the battle for hearts and minds of fans and sponsors across the world is gathering pace.

United's current fan-base has been estimated at 333 million, with chief executive David Gill believing the number of active supporters hovers around the 139 million mark - of whom 83 million are based in Asia.

Go Man U.?

Isn't soccer* the game European women invented so they would have something to do while their men cooked?

*football for those outside the U.S.

Frankly I was just at the Apple site and I got lost. What a calamitous mish-mash and hodgepodge of non-intuitive human interface design. It's a bad neighborhood. I ask that you MAC lemmings borrow a Dell running Vista and bask in the warm glow of Dell's beautifully designed web pages in Internet Explorer. I could spend hours there.

Go Manchester United!

@zt.
Football is the game the rest of the world play with their feet. Get it? FOOT-ball.

In the US football is played with the hands. Duh!

Jan 11, 08 - 02:30 pm Comment from: Gil

And I am from the good ole US of A.

Jan 11, 08 - 02:30 pm Comment from: ron

Zune bang.

Dell's beautifully designed web pages in Internet Explorer. I could spend hours there.

You have to, to figure it out.

Embrace all that the world has to offer and make it your own as opposed to critisizing those that live differently than yourself ZT.

Jan 11, 08 - 02:41 pm Comment from: ChrissyTwo

Unlike the design of MDN, which of course won no awards at all!

"Isn't soccer* the game European women invented so they would have something to do while their men cooked?"

Zune Tang! The first bit of common sense from you! Ever!

I have tried to watch it dozens of times. Girlfriends kids mostly. That's the only reason.

"Embrace all that the world has to offer and make it your own as opposed to critisizing those that live differently "

Not defending ZT, you understand, but "embrace all the world has to offer'?

Uh, well, if I did that I would be necessarily be making some bad choices, wouldn"t I.

I don't criticize those who like soccer, but I don't like soccer. There is a difference.

Jan 11, 08 - 03:15 pm Comment from: ron

You don't have to 9ft tall, or weigh 300lbs. or have a big gut and take steroids to play the world game. Football/soccer. You can be any size but you must have more stamina than a cross-country skier.

During my first baseball game in this country at the seventh inning everyone stood up - I left as I thought the game was over, (3 hours long with 8 minutes of action), and most of that was scratching, spitting and pulling the peak of the cap.

Jan 11, 08 - 03:40 pm Comment from: Woody

@ ron: All those bodily adjustments were so that the TV networks covering the game could break for commercials. And now you know why there's the "seventh inning stretch." Sadly, baseball is getting almost as boring as golf.

Jan 11, 08 - 04:18 pm Comment from: I'm with Fred

Football is a sport, a real true sport. One that requires real fitness, with almost constant, unrelenting running and no 'time-outs'. It hasn't caught on in the US because there is no way to cram 45 minutes of commercials into every game.

Baseball and American "Football's" ranks appear to be jammed with egocentric beer-bellies I'm sorry to say.

Jan 11, 08 - 07:34 pm Comment from: LorD1776

If you want to see real men playing real football, then you have to go south. Australian rules football is totally kickass!

These guys are brutal. None of that sissy armor plating like here is the U.S. When these guys get hurt they just keep going. And if they are incapacitated they drag them off the field pronto.

If you took our players and made them compete with the Aussies, they would get massacred.

I hate Microsoft but at least I know what .Net is. Do you?

.Net is the single most dangerous bullet Microsoft has fired at Linux or OSX. If you Mac fanboys think that .Net is Microsofts website you are dangerously uninformed. Learn a bit about software development and help us Linux geeks in out battle against the evil empire.

Jan 12, 08 - 06:48 am Comment from: LorD1776

me,

Is this what you are talking about?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework

If so, please explain why it is so dangerous to us. I don't have a clue. And I am not being facetious.

Jan 12, 08 - 12:26 pm Comment from: @lord1776

lol so true... I'm Aussie and that's completely right... love AFL!

Jan 12, 08 - 01:12 pm Comment from: Zune Tang®

@ me

Since when is Microsoft an evil empire? Perhaps it is you who isn't living up to your potential. It's too bad Microsoft's passion hasn't caught fire with you yet.

Your potential. Our passion.™

Jan 12, 08 - 01:40 pm Comment from: LorD1776

Z.T.,

Is it truly passion that has you on fire?

Are you sure you didn't get a little Ben Gay in your skivvies?

Jan 13, 08 - 03:52 am Comment from: me

@LorD1776

My gripe with .Net and C# is that it's a Microsoft lock in. The real problem is that unlike a lot of other Microsofts attempts at lock ins this one seems to be working.

I've never used C# but apparently it does make programming easier and quicker and a lot of my programmer friends are starting to use it. Unfortunately if this trend continues it doesn't matter how crap Vista is it'll win out because the software developers aren't going to be able to run their code on anything else :(

@ZT

For a Microsoft fanboy you really don't know much about them do you?
