Apple’s iPod touch set tops Toys ‘R’ Us Christmas wish list
Thursday, October 04, 2007 - 11:14 AM EDT

"Transformers and the Apple iPod Touch are expected to be two of the most popular toys underneath the Christmas tree this year, according to toy retailer, Toys R Us," Harry Wallop, Consumer Affairs Correspondent, reports for The Telegraph.

"The toy chain has announced the 20 toys that it predicts will become best sellers this year, and the list is dominated by toys inspired by television shows and by electrical gadgets," Wallop reports.

"The iPod Touch – the latest music player and personal organiser from Apple – is expected to be the most popular gadget, knocking off the iPod nano from its top slot," Wallop reports.

Full article here.

MacDailyNews Note: The Toys 'R' Us hot toy list has historically proven to be a reliable predictor of electronics and toys success, correctly predicting the iPod and Wii, among many others, as hot holiday items in advance of them achieving massive holiday sales.

I wish my parents had that kind of money to throw around on Christmas when I was a kid!

a personal organizer? ... that I can't add an appointment to???

not a complaint...just noticed the misnomer.

My father made one toy for each of the three of us at Christmas, (or is it winter celebration, or some such commie crap)? We also had to walk 6 miles to school every day, in bare feet. Uphill, both ways.

@John Gee

That certainly is deceptive... I wish it had all the organizer capabilities of the iPhone.

Yeah, but you don't have to pay to shop at the Apple store.

@Charles

Yeah it was a bummer, I thought, at first. Then I realized that even though it is barely difficult to add that functionality, it allows for them to differentiate...and probably won't be bad for the consumer when the real PDA/PIM comes out next year....bigger screen (I tried to surf on the touch...I lost my patience...not meant to be the main fidea, you see.)

Oct 04, 07 - 12:01 pm Comment from: John Gee

fidea = idea...typo

Ron, my mom got a big mountain apple and a big orange for Christmas one year under their tree, both wrapped in a bow...that was it. But her father had enough for his quart of liquor.

I thought Toys R US executives were arrested along with Mattel executives for selling poisoned toys?
Question: If Apple can have most of their products made in China and be reliable and safe why can't Mattel or TOYS R US.
Answer: Because they could care less about their customer or branding

Mind you a Scalextric would be fun for working off that after-dinner paunch. Sociable too...

History Lesson:

Transformers toys were not "inspired by television shows". The original Transformers cartoon was created to sell the toys. Comic books and movies followed.

"You got the TOUCH!!!"

I smell a cross-over.

I think this list is right. Because the iPod Touch is on my wish list this year. Since I couldn't afford an iPhone and my cell phone plan has a year and a half to go on it. The iPod Touch will be a great alternative. My iPod 60 GB photo is still going strong but I certainly would like to have the capability to watch video and actually have wireless internet on the go.

You mean you wish there were toys that cool when you were a kid!

Oct 04, 07 - 03:30 pm Comment from: Dirty Pierre le Punk

I told my kids that when I was a boy, all I got for Xmas was an apple and an orange to which they replied: " Gee, an iMac and a mobile phone! That's cool!".

Oct 04, 07 - 07:09 pm Comment from: It's Christmas

Holiday holiday holiday holiday.

If you don't want to call it Christmas, and don't want to celebrate Christmas, then demand to be allowed go to work on Christmas day and tell your kids it's just a 'holiday'.

Just who precisely are you trying to avoid offending by this 'holiday' garbage? If you're so bent on removing the meaning of the day then don't celebrate it.

In the UK, it is Christmas.

THE iPod KILLER HAS ARRIVED! Zune 2 is here! Squirt me baby! Better yet let me squirt you!

All of the Zune's critics are silent in the face of our new software and models!
Nobody has anything that comes even remotely close to the "Squircle". If Apple tries to copy this we will sue the living daylights out of them and cancel Office '08 completely!
See all of the details at ZuneScene!
Tell 'em Steve sent 'cha!

Part of me thinks that these reports are somewhat rigged or "fixed" . A companion story that seems to be circulating at the moment is mentioning that the Apple iphone didn't even make the list (it has apparently scored #15) and that this HDTV is #1.

I guess they know their business, but sometimes I really question if they aren't purposely adding to the hype of their items with the bigger margins.
