Looks like I'm golden. I got my iMac just this past June. I'd say "Bring on that Bad Cat (Snow Leopard)", but I've barely cracked Pogue's "Missing Manual" to Leopard. So much yet to learn, so little time.

I still think Apple's lack of G5 support is terrible. Apple sold the G5 until August 2006 (later if you count clearance sales, refurbs, etc.). So, they are supporting this class of computer for less than 3 years?

I can understand not support G4's due to their age and performance-crushing, dirt-slow, front side bus speeds, but the G5's?!?!?

I just hope Apple releases later versions of Leopard with some of the code rewrites going into Snow Leopard. It would be sweet if 10.5.10 is like a startover and Apple cranks out upgrades for another year or so after Snow Leopard is released. I can only hope.

That's funny. Turbo Pascal for the Mac listed "at least 256K RAM" in it's specs. There (and now here) are the only two places I've ever seen reference to a 256K Mac.

The original Mac had 128K RAM of course. And the next model, The Fat Mac, had 512K.

I still have Tiger on my 2 year old 2.16 MBP and it runs flawlessly. There are still too many horror stories concerning Leopard. I bet my IIci would still boot up.

1 - YES the G5 is a 64-bit processor. And like Intel's new 64-bit processors, it will run both 32- and 64-bit software.

2 - NO. Unless something changes before release, Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor.

Thanks for the clarification.

Based on that fact, then boo hiss to Apple on that decision. They should support the G5 (at least on the PowerMacs).

I hope it fixes 802.11n support for non-Apple routers

The lack of support for PPC systems has little to do with their age or their ability to deal with 64-bit vs 32-bit. It is the way the chip is built - significantly different from the Intel family. In essence, we have been getting two OSs for the price of one - one for the PPC and the other for the Intel. Not that there is any way you can unlink the two, but there is code for both platforms there. Not for Snow Leopard, though. This will be a nearly clean sweep of all the older code. Not as complete as what went for Classic, but better than MS did for Vista.

I suspect your IIci will not boot any longer. The puddles under the caps are probably too large by now if it has not been in constant use.

Apple dropped PPC like a hot rock.

Good thing though, no EFI on PPC systems, so no privacy/DRM issues.

I suspect the Dual G5 systems should fetch a good price on the used market.

My PowerComputing PowerCenter 120mhz PPC604 is a no go too, I guess. It's not referenced in Snow Leopard's compatibility anywhere (via Apple or otherwise)! I plan on switching all of my work now to my dual 2 ghz 20" iMac because Apple leaves me no choice! Bah! Buh bye PowerCenter 120 I'll miss you.. see you in hell.

I can't get too excited about the dot-dot updates anymore. Leopard is working just great for me, so at best it will keep working great for me. So at worst, it will introduce some new bug.

why am I sure that spotlight will still suck?
