what the heck is this video telling me. I am lost at its relevance.

Dec 29, 08 - 02:59 pm Comment from: ericdano

Snappy!

Mail App is like a 3rd of the size? Wow.

Dec 29, 08 - 03:22 pm Comment from: Demon

It still is not showing any new information. Anyone can hack the OS and the Apps to Change their Finder and internal Info.

Dec 29, 08 - 03:29 pm Comment from: c'mon

This Build(10A96) is from the summer nothing new here

Dec 29, 08 - 03:36 pm Comment from: M.X.N.T.4.1.

I predict we will be able to sync our entire OS X installation on our iPhones, just plug it into any Mac and it will sync with itself.

Dec 29, 08 - 03:37 pm Comment from: NeverFade

was that 'note worthy'? Maybe someone else got something from that, but I lost time...

Dec 29, 08 - 03:40 pm Comment from: Wingsy

Quite "snappy". A fair bit faster than my MacPro V8 here.

Dec 29, 08 - 03:41 pm Comment from: Erkman

yay?!

Dec 29, 08 - 03:43 pm Comment from: clyde

Can someone tell me what is up with the Germans and techno-pop?

Dec 29, 08 - 04:01 pm Comment from: @Clyde

You must be one of the few people on this planet who hasn't seen The Matrix.

Dec 29, 08 - 04:04 pm Comment from: WriterGuy

Wake me when there's something to see...

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Dec 29, 08 - 04:05 pm Comment from: nekogami13

No new features, so what is there to look at?

Dec 29, 08 - 04:07 pm Comment from: G4Dualie

I just cleaned out the Languages from the Get Info for Apple Mail, leaving just the English, and the application size was reduced from 298 MB to 27 MB!

Snow Leopard's Mail was 91 MB according to the video. Now, is that with or without the baggage of additional languages? If that were English only, then that is bloat!

Dec 29, 08 - 04:08 pm Comment from: cwa107

@clyde LOL, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I was kind of hoping to see some refinements - it looked like there was something about Exchange referenced in the name of the Address Book app. Other than that, all I'm seeing are different file sizes and a new checkbox referring to Rosetta.

When are they going to FTFF? How about ZFS implenetation, isn't that in the works?

Dec 29, 08 - 04:10 pm Comment from: MrMcLargeHuge

Clubbed to Death....good choice. And it's not techno-pop clyde. As the fellow beneath you notes, it's from The Matrix.

Dec 29, 08 - 04:11 pm Comment from: MacintoshSoftwareList.com

I do not see how this is worth buying

Dec 29, 08 - 04:22 pm Comment from: alansky

This video is a total waste of electrons. And Snow Leopard will be a total waste of money if this is all it has to offer.

Dec 29, 08 - 04:31 pm Comment from: Robert

The thought of new "x.0" version numbers for apps has me drooling. Who cares what they do differently as long as we've got the versions up to a whole new level.

Wait... iCal is only 3.0 in Snow Leopard? I already have 3.0.6!

Dec 29, 08 - 04:45 pm Comment from: DanielM

Violation of the NDA.

Bet there there is a search party out looking for the guy.

Dec 29, 08 - 04:50 pm Comment from: nicleT

Finder doesn't seem to be revamped as predicted.

Dec 29, 08 - 05:04 pm Comment from: Demon

It's time for per Mac World Rumors and fake news.
Were anyone can get the spotlight with nothing more then a slightly warm sliver of credibility. Who needs real sources or even a real diagram or photo, even altered old images and diagrams are good. As long as it generates traffic.

@Demon,

You nailed it. MDN = click bait.

And yet, here we are.

Dec 29, 08 - 05:57 pm Comment from: Mac+

It sucks... I mean the video.

Dec 29, 08 - 06:09 pm Comment from: Lilochris

Mail is less than a quarter the size than it is in Leopard. Everything else is about half the size.

This is great space saving. Hope Apple Makes it PPC G4 Compatible. I have a 30GB iBook G4 1.2Ghz & it only has like 11GB left.. With Snow Leopard, I'd imagine it have an additional 3-6GB's extra.

Have 17 Inch 2Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac with 160GB. 125GB's for Mac OS X Leopard, 24GB for Windows XP. So with all my stuff, I only have 83GB's left in Mac OS X. With Snow Leopard, I'd imagine having 87-90GB's. Plus all the extra's like grand central, it will really Snap up.

It would really suck if Apple doesn't support G4's, G5's, 32 bit Core Solo's & Core Duo's. There's a lot of those out there & a lot of disappointment if apple doesn't cover them.

Dec 29, 08 - 06:24 pm Comment from: Are You Efing Kidding Me

WOW, Snow Leopard allows you to get info on apps and files. Can't wait for this feature.

You call this news?

Dec 29, 08 - 06:43 pm Comment from: Sarasota

So Snow Leopard looks the same as Leopard except it's in German?

Dec 29, 08 - 06:52 pm Comment from: msr

As was dicsussed on another site, this is an OLD, OLD build. It's basically the first developer build, if I"m not mistaken.

Also, are you people slow? It was announced that there would be no new features for the end user. If you find this to be a surprise, you are going to be hugely disappointed.

Dec 29, 08 - 06:59 pm Comment from: Steve

Looks to me that his system is really snappy!

Dec 29, 08 - 09:42 pm Comment from: nicleT

Yes, as in "Snappy new year"!

Dec 29, 08 - 11:19 pm Comment from: rickw

With no new features and a "snappier" interface, perhaps this "update" won't cost $125. Steve said that they are making it more stable, so why should I pay another $125 for stability?

On a brighter note, I really do hope that they make a media server. One that will play everything and not just Mac approved video files, (ie. I want Divx). That, if the price is reasonable with over a 1 TB drive, I would buy.

Dec 30, 08 - 12:45 am Comment from: montex

I'd like Apple to make a media server that can out drobo the Drobo. But if it runs under iTunes, then forgeddaboutit.

Dec 30, 08 - 12:50 am Comment from: Chris D. Flame

Am I the only one to point out that there is something wrong with the obvious? UNIVERSAL Binaries in an INTEL only environment?

Dec 30, 08 - 08:49 am Comment from: Andys78

The music intro is the #1 track of the Enigma variations? Very cool for the video smile

Dec 30, 08 - 10:21 am Comment from: MacRaven

@ clyde
"Can someone tell me what is up with the Germans and techno-pop?"

Agreed. We might have to go to war with them again if they keep playing this stuff! ; ) heeh. After The Beatles cutting edge Hamburg era, Germany's music taste has been questionable.

BUT, having said that, what passes for USA top 40 play here has sucked in the last 10 years. Hot bods, models and shock content are valued, not talent or creativity. Neil Young's looks or Janis Joplin's weight would have got them kicked out the door on first sight by today's music moguls. Talent need not apply.

Dec 30, 08 - 11:46 am Comment from: Rudge

Meine Güte, Snow Leopard ist sehr bissig!

Dec 30, 08 - 01:38 pm Comment from: marco

I think Apple is going to step up the plate in the hardware department...
Why?
With Windows 7 beta been reviewed as major improvement over Vista, from everyone who has tested it... Apple will always have outdated specs compared to PCs... That said.. Apple will need to bring newer and faster hardware out if it wants to rise in market share....

One OF many sites reviewed Windows 7 as...
'Windows 7 beta tested, photo'd, deemed 'massive improvement' over Vista.'

Apple's famous commercials will need a new revamp as well. I firmly believe that Apple has a lot on its plate for 2009/10.

If Windows 7 does hold true to been faster and less buggy... It will be the hardware that people will go for.... FW, Blu Ray, Faster processors, more HD space, RAM, the lastest and greatest video cards etc...

So Apple if you are out there listening... bring the lastest and greatest hardware to the Macs please!

rickw says:
"Steve said that they are making it more stable, so why should I pay another $125 for stability?"

Because Apple developers don't work for free. Besides, if what you're using works for you now, DON'T UPGRADE!

As for me, I'm still on Tiger on my home computer but I still recognize Snow Leopard as an important update. I wish more software outfits focused on the back-end instead of putting out more and more features (leading to feature-bloat). It's important to keep the underlying software lean and mean.

Dec 30, 08 - 02:13 pm Comment from: HazMatt

Oh, and I'm one American who likes the 'techno-pop'. Massive Attack, The Polish Ambassador, Freezepop, Royksopp, The Knife, Justice, Goldfrapp, The Crystal Method… it's all good.
