Apple’s new 2G iPod touch VoIP capable; free or low-cost phone calls over Wi-Fi
Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 02:47 PM EDT "The newest version of Apple’s iPod Touch contains the hardware necessary to enable free or low-cost phone calls over wi-fi," Lonnie Lazar reports for Cult of Mac."The device now supports the external microphone included with some headsets," Lazar reports.
"TruPhone, a venerable innovator in the VoIP field, already has an iPhone application in the AppStore. Apple has said it would not permit applications that run VoIP using cellular networks, but a purely wi-fi-based calling method could pass muster," Lazar reports.
