Aspyr ships Star Wars: Empire at War for Intel-based Apple Macs
Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - 10:40 AM EST

Apple StoreAspyr Media, Inc. has announced that Star Wars: Empire at War has begun shipping for Macintosh. Star Wars: Empire at War is licensed by LucasArts and was developed for Mac by Aspyr Studios. Star Wars: Empire at War is for Intel-based Macs only.

Star Wars: Empire at War puts the power to command an entire war for the Star Wars galaxy in the hands of players, giving them the freedom to determine how they play the game within the completely scalable and accessible gameplay. Set a few years before the events of Episode IV A New Hope, LucasArts’ Empire at War lets players wage war on the ground and in space, as well as experience the creation of the Rebel Alliance, the strengthening of the Empire and the beginnings of the Galactic Civil War.

Using an entirely new game engine created by the Las Vegas-based developer Petroglyph, Empire at War features beautifully rendered land and space battles set on memorable planets such as Yavin IV, Tatooine and Dagobah, as well as never-before-seen environments taken directly from the Star Wars films and expanded universe novels. In the game, players choose to join either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire, building and setting up tactical forces to unleash upon the enemy in real-time 3D. Memorable Star Wars hero characters can be brought into the action to help turn the tide of the battle as players build, manage and upgrade their space and ground-based units, vehicles, troops and base structures.

Star Wars: Empire at War is rated "T” for "Teen" by the ESRB and is available for Mac for $49.95. More info: http://www.aspyr.com/product/info/66

Just what I need----games!

Oh, great. I've been trying to get our troops out of Dagobah. This is only going to encourage another galactic troop surge.

Why not Universal Binary? Is the code not as snappy on intel-macs?

Mar 28, 07 - 10:11 am Comment from: ndelc

Twisted, that was good!

I wish they'd come out with KOTOR2 for the Mac. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to wait until I get an Intel Mac and install XP on it to play that. Ugghhhh!

Mar 28, 07 - 10:19 am Comment from: Thorin

Uh, yay. Now I get to whip out my lightsaber.

I'm always looking for an excuse to do that.

This is the start of the "Intel only" software releases.

Too bad.

Mar 28, 07 - 11:03 am Comment from: G-Spank

I'd guess that this means it's much easier to port a game to the intel Macs, therefore we're gonna see more games for the Mac, but only for the intel Macs. If true, this could be the beginning of something big.

I would like "Supreme Anal Justice" to become available.

Mar 28, 07 - 11:44 am Comment from: Twisted Mac Freak

WTF? Supreme Anal Justice has been available in Block D since January. They're calling it a Zunefest.

Just waiting for the port of Lego Star Wars...

I'm boycotting Aspry until they start treating us like customers instead of thieves. They DEMAND that you have
the game CD/DVD mounted in the drive before they allow you to play the games. What the f*ck is up with that?
I'm supposed to haul around all my game CD/DVDs where ever I go just incase I get in the mood to play a game?
I PAID for the game I should be able to play the game whenever/where ever I want. This is bullsh*t.

Mar 29, 07 - 07:17 am Comment from: Mac Realist

The reason Aspyr had to do this is because Mac users are thieves. The ipod is used exclusively to steal music. We all know that the exclusive format on the ipod is "stolen". Since mac users are the biggest thieves on the planet it is obvious that something needs to be done to make some money on their software.

Software developers would stop doing this if mac users actually purchased their software instead of "borrowing" it from their friends. PC users don't do this which is why there is so much more useful software for windows then the mac. I would recommend that any software developer stop work on any mac version and release exclusively for windows. The best platform for games and business software is on windows and will be forever. Don't waste your time with expensive toys for the elite.

Word for the day: Macintosh = stolen

Wow...I had completely forgotten about this game.

I only played it a year and a half ago on the PC...
