You have to use Apple's iTunes application, which doesn't run well on PCs. In fact, my PC screen turned itself off, then back on a few seconds later, when the iPhone was connected. It's a phenomenon I have never before seen.

This upgrade was delivered in our great overlord's recent mini service pack(in which we get superior upgrades and bug fixes EVERY MONTH for free, you MAC lemmings, not once very two years for $179). How thoughtful of our masters to dissuade us from using gay software that doesn't support Trusted Computing and our master's approved DRM.

I've felt this way for a long time. Everytime I encounter difficult to use products, anything from a digital thermostat to a direct tv remote, I get pissed off that they can't simplify the process like Apple. Using their products can spoil you.

Excuse me if that was a typo of yours but you shouldn't really by using Windows ME anymore, it was great in it's day (singular), you should upgrade to Vista like all the enlightened folks who have thoughtfully put their experiences on YouTube.

No iPhone in Canada but I have an unlocked Nokia N95. While the specs on the N95 are great, it fails to live up to them in real life. If you use the web browser (based on Webkit same as Safari) you get constant "out of memory" errors due to the memory structure the N95 - even with an empty 2 GB micro SD card (think Windows 95 and hi and low memory). The camera, yes, it is 5 megapixels - but has very aggressive compression so it does not give the quality you would expect. Finally, trying to set preferences, load programs, etc.. less than convenient and I know the phone exceptionally well (being a geek and all). Mind you, compared to the "normal" Rogers phone it is good - better than my Treo 650 - but no comparison to the iPhone which I have had the displeasure (only because I can't buy and use it) of using in the US.

This guy has never seen any of the magnificent mobile phones running Microsoft's spectacular Windows Mobile 6. They all put the iPhone to shame. They have more buttons, logos, decals and best of all—a REAL mobile phone OS from the manufacturer of the best computer operating system on the planet. I bet the iPhone can't even play games. Dorks.

To the contrary, all of the PC users I know who run iTunes think it's wonderful, one of the best apps they have.

Hmmm MS can top those guys. They'll come out with the doomedpone, err I mean ZunePhone with 3 count them 3 top menus. 5 functions per keystroke. So there!

If you scroll back a few months, Peter Svensson absolutely body-slammed Apple and the iPhone in one of his articles (telephony and mobile communications is his editorial beat). It's pleasant to see him come around like he has. When I read some nasty previous articles, I really wondered at the time whether he was being fed talking points by other handset manufacturers. That he came around on his own speaks volumes.

This bodes well for our favorite company.

Oh, and a note to the two Microsoft asstroturfers who deficated in the reader feedback area for this article: bite me you losers.

I often wish there was no hardware button at all. It can feel odd or slow to press a physical button each time I want go "top menu". To have the option of going back to the top menu also in software would feel more consistent and shouldn't be a problem.

What most people fail to realize about the interface is that it is a computer (Mac) interface. Very similar to the concept of a Dock and Dashboard using a mouse. That's the big difference here.

Most phone interfaces are like computers before 1984. You use the keyboard and arrows to navigate text and (maybe) icons.

The iPhone brings you the same interface as a modern computer, and it has a "mouse": your finger.

I agree with this guy. My first reaction when I started using my iPhone was to want to smash my Moto V557 on the ground.
