How long do you think this one will last? It's been introduced and pulled like 3 or 4 times that I can count. Although I don't recall it being so publicized when it was done before.

is this on all iPhones? or just on the 3G???

Oct 29, 08 - 01:25 pm Comment from: KenC

Cool, I was just wondering about what happened to AT&T;'s wifi plan, the other day, when I was passing a Starbucks.

Oct 29, 08 - 01:27 pm Comment from: Rob

Does this also apply to the iPod Touch?

Oct 29, 08 - 01:27 pm Comment from: TowerTone

"You want fries with that Wi-Fi?"

Oct 29, 08 - 01:29 pm Comment from: Growl

Would this work on my Macbook too, or is it iPhone-only?

MDN
Could you check that ATT link?
Not working on my iPhone.

Oct 29, 08 - 01:32 pm Comment from: NGC598

Waiting on ATT to pull the plug again. They started the service, oops wrong time, did it again, ooops-sorry, and maybe the third time is the charm?!.

hmmm

All iPhones, this is official!

They had to do it to unload their cell networks, I think this was a smart practical move.

Oct 29, 08 - 01:43 pm Comment from: Brocktoon

iPhone only. But if you've got AT&T;wireless at home (mine's thru SBC Yahoo) you get free wi-fi on your iPod Touch (or laptop, etc.) too. Just sign in at an AT&T;hotspot with your account name and password.

Oct 29, 08 - 01:49 pm Comment from: sfstevelong

This is from AT&Ts;website

iPhone users, get started with Wi-Fi

Activate Wi-Fi from the settings icon on your iPhone
Select "attwifi" from the list of available networks
Enter your 10-digit mobile number and check the box to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. Tap 'continue'
You will receive a text message from AT&T;with a secure link to the AT&T;Wi-Fi hotspot. You will not be charged for the text message.
The SMS link will only be valid for 24 hours at the location it was requested. Another request must be submitted when using another hotspot location.
Open the text message and tap on the link for 24-hour access to the AT&T;Wi-Fi hotspot

Lurrvly. But I wonder whatever happened to the iTunes WiFi Music Store. It just kinda faded away, it seems.

It didn't fade away. When you are on a WiFi network, you can use the iTunes WiFi Music Store. I do it all the time. Could you be talking about something else?

Oct 29, 08 - 02:56 pm Comment from: I can haz wifi?

LOLZ, had this in UK since launch day.

Plus London still has far more wireless network access points with 12,276 than either New York City, with 9,227, or Paris, with 4,481 -- although not all of those with O2.

But I certainly have had good use of wifi on iPhone and now with iPhone 3G outside London too.

Glad you are finally getting similar in USA.

Oct 29, 08 - 03:09 pm Comment from: gee..

I wonder when they will pull this off the shelf AGAIN.

Oct 29, 08 - 03:21 pm Comment from: steve516

great... and they are going to do something about the 3G service too???

Oct 29, 08 - 03:51 pm Comment from: Predrag

El Guapo,

He was talking about the "Now playing..." button in iTunes when you're on Starbucks WiFi. The idea was that when you're in the Starbucks, and hooked up to their WiFi, there would be an icon inside iTunes Store (on your phone and touch) where you could see what was currently playing in that store, and you could buy the song/album right away.

Oct 29, 08 - 03:54 pm Comment from: Predrag

Steve516,

They ARE doing something about 3G service; this is IT! They are trying to get all those Starbucks people to get off their 3G network and onto the WiFi network when they surf incessantly while sipping their venti non-fat moccha no foam latte...

Oct 29, 08 - 05:41 pm Comment from: TheConfuzed1

I just got a text message, from AT&T;, confirming this.

Hopefully, the economy will turn around soon. With things being as they are, I've cut out the five dollar coffees, so it may be a while before I can try this.

@ Predrag

oh

Oct 29, 08 - 05:58 pm Comment from: Ed

personally, I don't drink coffee and rarely go to starbucks, but i do like going to mcdonalds. I believe they have an att option on their wifi. I'll check it out when I'm eating my egg mcmuffin tomorrow morning

Oct 29, 08 - 07:21 pm Comment from: The Other Steve

This would have been much more important back before 3G. Now It's only a big deal in areas where there is no 3G, and older G1 iPhone users.

Still a big deal for some, just not as much now.

Oct 30, 08 - 08:02 am Comment from: Ed

Well it worked for a little bit at mcdonalds, but then i got a screen on safari that said error and to call a number
