I probably should know this (in light of all the recent iPhone news)...but are they going to offer the iPhone discounted for people that renew a 2 year contract?

Fun article! This company really is about to go nuclear.

iPhone

1: Only 8 GB storage is too small. A movie alone is 4-5GB. Doesn't leave a hell of a lot of room left over for everything else.

2: A 2 megapixel camera is just about worthless and cannot give quality landscape photographs. See #1 for storage problems.

3: Cingular's/AT&T;'s EDGE network is painfully slow, no 3G.

4: No GPS, what's the use in having Google maps if you can't track or GPS bookmark locations or have the iPhone give you point by point directions?

5: Screen is too small Just like the iPod w/video, the screen is just too small, Especially for web surfing for any lenght of time, or watching movies. Needing a new device, either MyVue glasses (eyestrain) or a mini-pocket projector and ideal location/conditions for viewings. More $$$$.

6: Doesn't fit into pocket easily Mockups of iPhones with leather cases produces a rather large flat bulge in users front pockets. Try walking around all day with a video iPod in a case in the front pocket of your jeans. The iPhone is larger than a video iPod! Ouch! Slimmer cell phones like the RAZR are much more comfortable.

7: Screen scratches and smudges easily To reduce problems a stylus (heat activated?) will be needed and someplace to store it. In the case perhaps? Just another thing to make it harder to fit into pocket.

8: iPhone will need belt hook or leather holster for men because it won't fit into pocket. Bump a dump.

9: Constant compuer hookups to install content/update playlists because iPhone storage space is too small. Large storage iPod with all your music with hundreds of playlists sure beats hooking up a tiny shuffle everyday.

10: No mini projector a pleasant option would be to have a laser projector in the top of the iPhone so one can see a bigger picture on a wall or other surface.

11: Doesn't really replace anything The iPhone would be great if it would replace the things it supposed to, but it doesn't. It's just adds things half assed that really don't add up to any value at this point.

It's just going to spawn a bunch of "solutions" that will cost even more money to get the decent amount of use out of the device. MyVue glasses, portable storage, USB hubs and power adpators, portable mini-projectors and so forth.

It's a phone for christsake, get a slim RAZR or wait for the M500 wristwatch phone.

Me, I would like to have Google Spreadsheets mainly. I'm not sure we need GoogleTalk or perhaps even the Google word processor (whatever it is called), as I think the iPhone will have these already built-in with iChat and a version of Pages.

Of course, what I REALLY want is Filemaker on the iPhone!!!!

First you say the screen is small. Then you say the iPhone is bigger than the video iPod. If Apple makes the iPhone smaller, then the screen will get even smaller you stupid head! The RAZR's screen is small too. I don't here you complaning! Mockups of an iPhone is not the actualy iPhone itself! It's just mockups. They are not accurate to based a judgment on. You haven't even touch the thing to say that it's not confortable to put in pockets. How ignorant are you!

Oh, and one more thing . . .

"Not Quite Yet" doesn't have the foggiest real-world idea of the size of movies ripped for handheld players. If he DID, he'd know that the standard rip size for "Hannibal Rising," say, is a little under 1GB on the Video iPod--NOT four to five GB!

This point, out of all of it, is the funniest one. Sure, lets have Apple but a small roll-out projector screen that you can place in front of the iPhone. Lets also add a mini gasoline generator so that it can produce enough power. Better yet, a solar panel that you place on top of your car that can fold in to a small size square shape that fits inside a compartment in the back iPhone. Or how about a small handheld thermonuclear reactor that fits in your other pocket, that would certainly provide enough juice for the projector.

Hey Danno. Who is your provider? I have a RAZR with Cingular and I can copy .mp3's to my phone (via bluetooth) and make them my ring tones. Just wondering. I've heard Verizon is good at locking phones out whereas Cingular leaves theirs pretty open.
