Well, the Eastern-most time zone in the US is NOT the Eastern Time (i.e. East coast, such as NYC). US Virgin Islands are the Eastern-most soil in the US (the Eastern tip of St. Croix), and the islands are in the Atlantic Standard Time. So, until this Sunday at 2:00AM, they will be one hour ahead of NYC, four hours ahead of Cupertino.

So, does it mean that the iPad can be pre-ordered on Friday, 12 March at 00:01 Atlantic Time, for those in USVI (which would be tonight, 20:00, or 8PM in California), or will it roll with the time zones/clock on users' computers, or with the time zone of users' IP addresses (to avoid cheating by re-setting the computer clock)?

Would there be fanatics willing to try and cheat in order to secure a pre-order an hour or two early...?!!!

For those a bit confused; this Sunday, at 2:00AM, most of the US switches to Daylight Savings Time. US Virgin Islands don't, so they'll be in the same time zone as the East Coast, until autumn.

I too would like to know if I should stay up until midnight to order, or just get up early in the morning. Eastern time here.

We called Apple Stores in CT and MA last night and they assured us that pre-ordering would start first thing on Friday morning when stores open for business across the various time zones.

I'm in CST and would like to know whether I should stay up or just get up early. No one seems to have an answer to this. Guess its going to be a long night. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be midnight GMT and we can pre-order and go to bed on time!

In past pre-order situations, I seem to recall that 9 or 10 am PST was when online ordering began. But those weren't true "pre-orders."

In the past Apple has taken it's site down at midnight Pacific Time and brought it back up with the new products. I would expect this to go the same way.
