‘Big Mac guy’ Rush Limbaugh resorts to his bully pulpit to get his Mac fixed

“Mac users who want to back up their e-mail archives may have Rush Limbaugh to thank,” Brian Stelter reports for The New York Times.

“‘I’m a big Mac guy,’ Mr. Limbaugh told his listeners on Feb. 12, recalling the recent purchase of six maxed-out Macintosh computers. But… Mr. Limbaugh’s e-mail messagess were not being archived properly, a problem that was echoed by other users on message boards. After asking Apple repeatedly for help by phone, Mr. Limbaugh decided to make his plea directly to Mr. Jobs by radio,” Stelter reports.

“‘I know we don’t agree on anything,’ Mr. Limbaugh chuckled, referencing Mr. Jobs’s endorsement of Al Gore. But someone at Apple was apparently listening: the company assigned an engineer to work with Mr. Limbaugh,” Stelter reports. “After two weeks, the snag was sorted out.” “‘Rush Limbaugh may not be Mac’s demographic, but he certainly could potentially influence the demo,’ said Ken Baker, the executive news editor for E, the entertainment channel. ‘You’d rather have celebrities with you than against you.'”

  1. I said as much when the story first broke.

All he or one of his staff had to do is get any one of the many great Mac technicians in the NYC area to come in and fix his technical problems.

I like to listen to Rush, but I know how he can be sometimes.

  2. JimDidn’t this Rush guy buy a support contract? Or did he just expect free help whenever he wants it?

He was having a problem that everyone was having and Apple didn’t seem in a hurry to fix. By calling them out on the radio, yes, he received individual attention, but the techs found the problem and now everyone else can benefit from the fix.

Guess there’s no chance now of keeping personal politics out of this thread.

  3. ‘I’m wondering if he gave Steve a Select Comfort Bed and a complimentary year of Rush-24/7……”

Actually, TT, he gave Steve his leftover crate of Xanax. The leftover crate of Ambien went to Heath Ledger.

  4. @Reclaimer,
It does not sound like it was a configuration problem, rather a coding problem in either Time Machine or Apple Mail. As good as the Mac technicians may be in NYC, I doubt that they’d be re-writing Apple code.

I’m glad that Rush was able to get this fixed so that we can all benefit.
An individual’s politics has nothing to do with what computer / operating system he or she may choose, nor does it have any place in this thread…. but that won’t stop the children from using their freedom to foist their blather here.

  5. Thanks, Apple for running to fix Rush’s problems, while two Apple Stores said “SORRY” when my Macbook power adapter went out at yes, 12 and one half months and my battery for some unknown reason would not be recognized the second I bought a new $79 mag-safe power adapter. Thanks again, ye who claim number one in customer service.

I think you are oversimplifying what he did. He has a full time tech and runs his operation on Macs.

What you are suggesting is that he was lazy and cheap and wanted free help.

From what I’ve read and heard, they tried all avenues before proceeding with this.

And seven Whoppers, twelve Quarter Pounders, eight Filet-O-Fish and a bucket of extra crispy thighs. Wash it all down with four large chocolate milkshakes. And super size everything.

  8. Rush used his influence to get his problems addressed. Rush has raved about Mac for years and years and loves their products. Apple was smart to respond and keep Rush as an enthusiastic booster of their products. Poitical leanings had nothing to do with this.
