Airport WiFi providers need to have some serious consolidation. I travel a lot and it seems every airport I go to has wifi by a different company, so there's little point in me signing up to any subscription service.

Still now I have my iPhone I just use EDGE to read my email. Not as fast, but I don't have to pay $10 at every airport for the privaledge.

Aug 01, 07 - 11:07 am Comment from: Mak

Notice Ft Lauderdale, Florida is missing from the list. That's because last time I was at FLL, they had totally FREE wi-fi access throughout the airport. Too bad more airports aren't the same.

LAX & HNL for example have outrageous fees to use their internet computers.

way to introduce your service to the iPhone, not a single airport in California

Where's ORF????

Aug 01, 07 - 11:23 am Comment from: Mr. Peabody

I think all Wi-Fi should be free. Yes I know somebody's got to pay for it, but there's got to be a better way. How about an ad or two everytime you change hotspots? It's how we pay for everything else that's "free". It's just a suggestion, and no I have now idea how it would or could work, but there's gotta be a way. I think having to login and pay, or worse yet, subscribe to a different provider when I move from Starbucks, to Peet's, to the mall, to campus, is just plain ridiculous.

Kudos to Boingo for the promo, but this type of service needs to become transparent to the end user. I have a suspicion that Wi-Fi providers can make much better money pushing ads then trying to hook busy folks on the go on subscriptions.

It nice that the Airport in Portland Oregon is already free, and that the city of Portland is installing free city-wide WiFi.

I was driving up I-5 and tried to use the WiFi at one of the rest stops in Washington, only to find that it would cost me something like $12 for a day of use. Wow are they gouging the truckers, that's all I can say.

It's amazing the level of disparity between some areas having free access, while others have to pay through the noise to get it.

No ATL? Busiest airport in the world.

Aug 01, 07 - 12:59 pm Comment from: ABQ Peter

i agree with mak; wifi in airports should be free. it is here in abq, they even have tables with lots of power outlets. in general it seems that there are more free wifi outlets in western airports. big airports rarely have free wifi, and i agree with pog, it seems like every airport that charges you has a different provider. and the charges are ridiculously large.

Kalamazoo, Oklahoma and Nashville are definitely not 'major'...and BWI is iffy...

Sorry, nothing personal...I fly out (I'm based out) of Fort Lauderdale and some people might consider that 'major' too, but it couldn't be farther from the truth...

Hey, great! I can use it here in Toronto!!

MDN MW: YET.....But wait! I still can't get an iPhone here in Canada yet.... angry

WTF? No ATL? Bastages!

Aug 01, 07 - 02:07 pm Comment from: Rudge

Thanks Boingo, but totally free is still better. I live near Portland, Oregon and PDX International Airport is totally free as is most of downtown.

Aug 01, 07 - 02:23 pm Comment from: NSFY

Woody, I'm with ya. I appreciate Shirley working on the sewers but I wish she'd fix the lack of services (free Wi-Fi, sleeping services for layovers, etc.) at Hartsfield-Jackson (and the incredibly high food prices).

Aug 01, 07 - 02:24 pm Comment from: Twisted Mac Freak

When did they split with Oingo?

Aug 01, 07 - 02:35 pm Comment from: eMax

This is just a marketing stunt.

how about free wi-fi for all iPhone users for EVER?!!?!?

Aug 01, 07 - 02:49 pm Comment from: Marc

Well I don't drink coffee and I've never bought anything at a Starbucks or hardly been to one (just a couple times with other people), but I stopped at one the other day because I knew they had WiFi and I thought I could play with my iPhone. Color me *shocked* to learn that you have to PAY for it! What? $5 for a cup o' joe and they want me to pay for wifi? That's insane!

So instead of I used my Edge network to Google "free wifi" and found a location a couple blocks away with free wifi.

So much for Starbucks. What losers. They finally get me in as a potential customer and drive me away by charging for what would have made me a customer! Idiotic.

Lame.

I'm hoping the Chicago metro area goes completely free wifi. I thought I heard rumblings about that very idea last year.

Oingo Boingo!

It just had to be said.

Aug 01, 07 - 09:19 pm Comment from: LaserKun

Augusta, GA and Fort Wayne, IN airports have (for now at least) free wireless... ALL airports should!!

Aug 02, 07 - 04:53 am Comment from: WhyFi?

An in other news, cellular providers admit to having fast new networks which mean that WiFi access is now no longer needed for fast mobile data speeds.

When contacted for comment Apple CEO Steve Jobs promised to look into bringing out a phone which could use them use one day real soon now.

"It just had to be said."

I did. Three hours before you. Too much cough syrup?

Aug 03, 07 - 04:01 pm Comment from: Camel's Milk Drinker

@ TMF Dude! Have you tried combining cough syrup with Camel's Milk?

You say three hours only! its taken me a day to reply to your post!!! delayed effect I guess.

Moral of the story? Do not mix your Camel's Milk with any other medication!!!

Aug 05, 07 - 04:29 pm Comment from: WhyFi?

When pressed again Steve explained that building the latest technology into the iPhone wasn't really necessary because Mac users are stupid sheep who would find all sorts of reasons as to why slow web browsing and other limitations are really OK, cool even.

Aug 06, 07 - 06:00 am Comment from: WhyFi?

Steve went on to clarify that when he said stupid sheep, he really meant to say incredibly loyal customers who would buy any product Apple put out just because it was made by Apple.
