BusinessWeek’s Edwards reviews Apple’s iPod touch: Perfect 5 stars out of 5; In a class by itself
Thursday, November 20, 2008 - 10:01 AM EST

"They say sequels often fail to live up to the original. That's not so with the second generation of Apple's iPod touch. Apple has managed to make the touch look better, work better, and deliver more features—all for a $229 starting price, significantly cheaper than the previous entry-level $299 version. The changes, while subtle, are so significant that I give the second-generation touch a rare perfect score," BusinessWeek's Cliff Edwards reports.

"The touch now sits in a class by itself. No longer simply a high-end iPod, it has become the foundation of what's sure to be an increasingly important handheld computing platform for Apple word or phrase. Rivals should take note: This is one Apple product that could seriously take a bite out of the competition," Edwards reports.

MacDailyNews Take: Now, if only there was some competition to bite.

But there is none!

I love my 32GB touch. It's a great reading device (I've read four novels already ), good for casual games and for dictionaries.

My CD's (in Apple lossless) sound great as well.

It could eventually outsell the iPhone and it's a pity Apple doesn't give it a seperate listing like the iPhone.

It is a hand-held computer after all.

I bought the 16 GB Touch 2G a few weeks after it's release. I really love it, and all who see it are wowed. But it's not quite "perfect". Safari will sometimes just crash, and has trouble formatting several sites I frequent. Sometimes it fails to respond to my finger in landscape mode and I have to switch to portrait. And the battery runs down too quickly working wireless.

Still love it though. I'm just wrapping up a brief volunteer stint overseas, and the Touch is the only computer gear I took along.

Ohh, ummmm, would you like to state, other than Apple, what would be the product this will take a bite out of?

hmmm

Is this the same Business Week full of click-whore douchebags that we heard about a few posts ago?

Every morning when he gets up and every night when I come home, my 2 year old son asks, "Where's iPod touch?" My two daughters, 10 and 5 are also constantly asking to play with it. My wife and I have decided to get an 8GB version for the three of them to share for Christmas. I'm tired of cleaning all of their grubby finger marks off of my screen smile

Amazon Kindle, emerging netbook products, perhaps Garmin devices if a GPS receiver is added? Apple is doing well in these categories already and can only do better as they add more features and models.
