Carphone Warehouse ‘very confident’ of its UK Apple iPhone supply

"Carphone Warehouse, the retailer and telecommunications group, is confident of its supply of the iPhone, Apple’s much-hyped multi-media device, which it will begin selling on November 9," Carlos Grande reports for The Financial Times.

"The group, which has negotiated a period as the exclusive third-party high street seller of iPhones, said on Wednesday it was “very confident” of having enough of the handsets, which offer voice, web and music services, to meet demand across all its stores," Grande reports.

"Roger Taylor, chief financial officer, said: 'We do make money on the iPhone, though possibly not as much as we would like. But the real benefit is as a huge driver of footfall and accessories sales. We are very confident of our supply of devices and we have had a lot of reassurances from Apple,'" Grande reports.

"In the US, demand for the limited number of iPhones available at its launch led to long queues outside some stores, and a secondary market in customers buying handsets for immediate resale," Grande reports.
