China prefers Apple over Google

“China snubbed Google but picked Apple when it decided to divert some of its $300 billion investment fund into U.S. stocks,” Glenn Hall reports for TheStreet. “Anyone surprised? Could it possibly have anything to do with Google’s threat to leave China over a dispute about censorship, hacking, etc?”

“We could get up in arms about China buying up America, but that’s yesterday’s news,” Hall writes. “Why shouldn’t the Chinese invest in the U.S.? Let’s take it as a sign of respect that they like what they see here — at least as far as investments go.”

“So let’s review what the Chinese government considers good investments in America,” Hall reports. “There’s Coca-Cola and Johnson & Johnson (two of Warren Buffett’s favorites) and China also put some cash in big banks, including Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and Bank of America.”

Andy Hoffman reports for Stockhouse, “The regulatory filing shows CIC [China Investment Corp.] controls 15,000 shares of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. worth about $1-million. CIC also owns a $6.3-million stake in computer and hand-held device maker Apple Inc. [roughly 32,000 shares], and a $4.3-million interest in News Corp., publisher of The Wall Street Journal and owner of Fox News. The filing also revealed for the first time that CIC owns a $14.3-million interest in troubled U.S. insurer American International Group Inc.”

you can blame Nixon for getting the ball rolling on that one, George H W Bush for his pet project NAFTA (which Clinton signed into law under the delusion that it would foster future bi-partisanship) and “Dubya” for not nurturing or improving our relationship with China since it has already been established.

  2. @Hope&Change;Couldn’t have said it better myself! It’d be great to see Obama actually standing up against the Chinese ….. but then Commies stick together, no?

It’d be nice if he stood up against Iran and stood up for Israel ….. but then Muslims stick together, no?

When it comes to American patriotism, this president says no.

When it comes to American security, this president says no.

When it comes to American capitalism, this president says no.

When it comes to us hard working, ordinary American citizens, we say no. NObama, I say, NObama!

  3. Sounds like the repetitive chanting of a beer hall putsch. Learn to speak from watching Fox News?

No idea where you get the idea that Obama isn’t patriotic. Are you confusing patriotism with Bush’s PATRIOT act?

And where do you get the idea about American security being said “no” too? If you mean starting foreign wars preemptively, Obama hasn’t much changed Bush’s policy, increasing the scope of the Afghan war.

Obama is super-procapitalist, bailing out the big banks and making deals with drug companies to scuttle any real healthcare reform. The far left hates Obama. (You would have no idea of this since all you read are your teaparty blogs.)

I’ll agree with you that you are saying “no” to hardworking ordinary Americans, who have been suffering under Republican rule for the past 10 years while the superrich got tax cuts every year. Good luck restoring the Bush era!

  4. yes learn Cantonese and get a good job we are so indebted to china it’s so sad to it. No news organization will say anything because china has their hand in every company.

  5. no good can come of this but thats globalization for you folks yay bring in those profits short term is so much attractive then long term until we actually have to deal with the problems we are in a hole try standing up to china and see what they do. and o yes us needs to stand up to isreal after all we went and carved a country out of someone elses land and expected them not to be mad was their no un inhabited island we could have mad theirs? but no war over sand continues… god jesus moses who ever will still love you no matter where you pray to them from wont they?

  6. Forget the partisan garbage- that’s what parties want you to do, fight amongst ourselves and not get anything done. We have more in common then not. Sure we may bicker over details but leave it to the ones wanting us to misdirect our anger at the wrong places then where it matters. Government, big business, established monied interests all don’t want us to get our act together and stop them from stealing us blind in a short sighted quick profit scheme that only benefits them. Wallmart does not look out for you, even that company is so deluded to think it’s helping out the little guy while making it so any other company can’t compete. When all the others go away and employment drops so far, who the hell will even still be buying their cheap crap? If I believed all these guys could actually organize something so vast and so huge to basically make only two classes of people, the top 1% who have everything and the rest of us, I would be scared. But it doesn’t stop them from trying. We have to extremes in presidencies between Bush and Obama- the ones screaming about Obama now know what the other side felt about Bush and don’t like it. But it’s still a red herring- your fighting your own best interests by opposing everything. It’s not to say what’s being proposed is all good or bad, just that right now our government is at a standstill because partisan rhetoric is so extreme. I would believe the Republicans arguments of not being the party of “No” if what was proposed in a lot of cases something they tried doing during the Bush years to get through. And the Democrats are too busy re- arranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship rather then doing anything.

Face it, both parties SUCK. The only way out of the morass is to vote EVERYBODY OUT. Regardless of their merits. Like an operating system, sometimes you have to do a clean install to get rid of all the garbage. Give them all one relatively long term (depending on office) and out they go. No career politicians. Remove all corporate or business lobbies from a radius of Washington for about 100 miles in any direction. Make all senators and representatives have to attend 80 to 90% of all sessions. Make them have to list online all their votes and who gives them money.

Make them and all who SERVE US, accountable. They seem to forgot that they work for us, not the monied interests. Reagan’s principals of a trickle down economy was a quick fix but never panned out, the point is once the rich get richer, they don’t really hold up their end of the bargain by creating more jobs and letting the middle class in on it. Greed is not always good.

The strongest our country ever has and can be when the middle class is the primary holder of wealth in the country. Something those in power don’t want. I am not Republican or Democrat. I don’t vilify either party only those who can’t get past party lines or talking points to see the way things as they really are. Sure even that line is blurred but never trust a party that serves it’s own interests with serving yours.

End of rant. Where’s the Tylenol?

The big American, Chinese and European corporations walk hand-in-hand, don’t be fooled by all the patriotic talk you hear on TV and elsewhere. In my opinion Mrs. Palin and Mr Obama (and most other head of states) are all but pawns in their wicked hands.

  8. OT: Danger! Political comment ahead.

“…and a $4.3-million interest in News Corp., publisher of The Wall Street Journal and owner of Fox News”

Hilarious. Watch the Neo-Con-Job Suckers selectively ignore that fact, just as they ignore the fact the their fave store, WalMart, is a key driving force in moving US manufacturing to Red China, as well as the fact that Red China owns over 40% of the trillions of Bush League generated federal debt. So are Neo-Con-Jobs actually commies? Or are they just stooopid?

The extreme Right and the extreme Left have much in common and sometimes people go from one to the other. The common denominator is (misdirected) idealism. For instance, Paul Wolfowitz was once a trotskyist (you can check easily on the Net).
