Woo! iPhone! Now bring it to Canada!

May 25, 07 - 11:30 am Comment from: Matrix3

Was there ever any doubt.
It seems it just the short sellers and M$ fud makers that have doubted the availability date.

May 25, 07 - 11:38 am Comment from: cptnkirk

Hooray! that's my birthday! Too bad it won't be in Canada yet!
;-{!

Wednesday? I never could get the hang of Wednesdays.

May 25, 07 - 11:58 am Comment from: Waiting for Rev 2

GPS, AM/FM radio, more storage capacity, 3G, better camera w/zoom.

I've had plenty of toys, the "wow" factor and being able to impress your friends wears off real fast. If you show it around, you create jealousy and in danger of being viewed as cultist.

Then comes the actual long term use of the product, getting value for your hard earned money.

I use my TomTom, I use my Razor to make calls. I use my 10 megapixel zoom camera. I use my Mac computer because of the bigger screen. I use my video iPod to store all my music only. I use the radio to listen to other things. If I run I'll use the shuffle occassionally.

I don't use the camera phone, it's totally lame. I don't use the web on my phone, Cingular's Edge is annoying slow. I pay a fortune for media service and hardly use it.
I don't use the Razor to play music, the storage is too little, if I did the battery would run down.

So until the iPhone's capability catches up to the level of all my other devices, it's not worth replacing them with a iPhone.

Sure the drool factor is big, but it's not practical yet.

I predict that I will be unable to go to work on June 20th.

May 25, 07 - 12:16 pm Comment from: Newmanstein

Is it "the 20th, or by the 20th? The 11th-15th is WWDC. I think Steve at least needs to receive an audible call near the end of the keynote announcing the release date in order to create even more hype and longer lines waiting at the stores the next week, so the media will give it the top story, but I don't want the iPhone to muddy up Leopard, though.

May 25, 07 - 12:20 pm Comment from: BobM

Where's my iPhone countdown widget?

May 25, 07 - 12:24 pm Comment from: iMaki

Well, June 20th is a little better than the END of June. If true, I know what I'll be doing that Wednesday.

May 25, 07 - 12:30 pm Comment from: Georgy Porgy

I hope Steve Jobs will give a brief display of new iPhone program/widgets, etc., and show how they integrate with Leopard.
So get your iPod video out, buy the cool new Lost game on iTunes for 5 smackeroos, and get in line on the 20th.

May 25, 07 - 12:32 pm Comment from: grok

GPS would be cute, but I couldn't care less about am/fm radio. There are always better features in the future - in the mean time, I need a phone...

Now comes the 'where-to-get-it' game. The Cingular mini-store down the street said, and I quote, "we're fighting to get a few". I took from that statement that they won't be available at all Cingular stores. There is one Apple store here in Richmond, and the faithful are probably already lined up there. What to do?

May 25, 07 - 12:58 pm Comment from: Crabapple

@ ChrissyOne, I am glad you could never get the HUNG of Wednesday's It sounds painful to the throat!

May 25, 07 - 01:00 pm Comment from: Crabapple

Before iphone (BI)

After iphone (AI)

The competition had better make hay while the BI exists!

May 25, 07 - 01:07 pm Comment from: Darkness

The real BOMB to drop on WWDC would be an iPhone SDK. Steve could say there's no guarantee that third-party apps developed for the phone will make it into general distribution, but it would sure get people excited about the platform and put an end to this "closed" phone nonsense.

May 25, 07 - 01:25 pm Comment from: neverfade

@crabapple

that's not even remotely funny...

May 25, 07 - 01:30 pm Comment from: The Rev. Al Sharpone

as long as it's not June 19.
I have an appointment with a bullhorn that day.

May 25, 07 - 02:35 pm Comment from: razor

ok some pretty weird comments today.

@ neverfade I specialize in the most terrible jokes you've ever heard or read. I don't mean rude, I mean unfunny to the point it becomes almost funny.

You got the point with your comment.

Word up, neverfade.

What is it with some poster's that they feel the insatiable need to pounce upon, and trounce, the perpetrator of the slightest grammatical or spelling infraction?

Yes, young Crabapple, ChrissyOne is a girl, and thus a mystery to you. But, be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still; for, it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness

@ BobM, "Where's my iPhone countdown widget?"

Here's one:

…although it doesn't seem to be counting down to the 20th, which after all is not verified anyway.

May 25, 07 - 03:29 pm Comment from: @ Waiting for Rev 2

You are an idiot. Until you've seen the finished product and test driven it in person, you have no idea if it will do the job or not.

At least keep an open mind about the iPhone until it is released. Your post sounds like you're on the Windows CE development team, the poor bastards.

May 25, 07 - 08:44 pm Comment from: Kyle

Since when do we trust Apple rumors from companies like CNBC?????

May 26, 07 - 09:36 am Comment from: Dear Waiting for Rev 2

From your post, I would suggest that you are not in the iPhone's target market, but there are many, many, many people who are. Here's an easy solution for any other complainers: if the iPhone's features don't match what you're looking for, don't buy it. Save the initial limited quantity for those of who will be over the moon with the device just the way it is.

May 26, 07 - 10:57 am Comment from: ChrissyOne

GPS, AM/FM radio, more storage capacity, 3G, better camera w/zoom.

GPS... will be nice, and will probably change the world, but I can live without it for now.
AM/FM Radio... this kinda proves your an astroturfer ticking off missing specs from a sheet. Do you listen to AM or FM? What stations? Do you know there are many cheap (under $40) add-on tuners for iPods now? Why make us all pay for a feature that very few people will use?
More storage.... there will ALWAYS be more storage right around the corner. If you know of an 8 GB smartphone that can do anything useful that's out now, you let me know.
Better camera... if you're using a phone as your main camera, then you don't deserve anything better. You want a good camera? Check out the Canon S5 IS, don't use a phone. Phone cameras are not meant to make you Annie Leibovitz. They are meant to provide evidence of the crazy stuff you did at a bar last night.

I've had plenty of toys, the "wow" factor and being able to impress your friends wears off real fast. If you show it around, you create jealousy and in danger of being viewed as cultist.

Oh no!!! What will people THINK of me?
Are you in high school? "Viewed as a cultist"? Are you serious?
And do you think Rev 2 will somehow avoid this effect?
Methinks you have a very high opinion of your own potential coolness.
If all these 'devices' make people think less of you, maybe you should look at the common denominator...

Then comes the actual long term use of the product, getting value for your hard earned money.

Agreed. You've put in long nights at Motorola to write this stuff.

I use my TomTom, I use my Razor to make calls. I use my 10 megapixel zoom camera. I use my Mac computer because of the bigger screen. I use my video iPod to store all my music only. I use the radio to listen to other things. If I run I'll use the shuffle occassionally.

So what the heck are you bitching about, Mr. Digital? Sounds like you're all hooked up. But hey, unless you like carrying around that huge backpack, maybe you could look into a device that does many of those things well.

I don't use the camera phone, it's totally lame. I don't use the web on my phone, Cingular's Edge is annoying slow. I pay a fortune for media service and hardly use it.
I don't use the Razor to play music, the storage is too little, if I did the battery would run down.

But you would use a camera phone on a Rev 2 "better camera w/ zoom"? Hmm... how much better do you think camera phones will get in 6 months? Better than your 10 mp zoom camera? Which model do you use?
And of course you don't use the RAZR to play music, it blows as an MP3 player, and you have 2 iPods for that anyway.
But maybe you could save some money if you stopped paying 'a fortune' for that media service and pared down all this bling you're sportin'.

So until the iPhone's capability catches up to the level of all my other devices, it's not worth replacing them with a iPhone.

Unless it also makes espresso, does my taxes, can be used as a flotation device, increases corn yield, can "bend it like Beckham", cleans my gutters, feeds my cat, and shows me holographic porn, I just don't know what use it would be to me.

If you are waiting for a device that does all those things "to the level of" all you other devices, you'll be waiting a long, long time.

Sure the drool factor is big, but it's not practical yet.

Carrying around all the stuff you mention sounds infinitely more practical. Thank you for showing us the light.

..hey Waiting for Rev 2 ....On June 20th you can take the drums and cymbals off your legs, the accordian from under your arm and the kazoo out of your mouth ..you won't need to be a one-man band anymore unless you just like making a lot of noise. Oh,yeah ....your welcome.
