So I guess c|net lumps Xserves in with Macintosh computers? I think of Xserve as a fourth distinct product line.

Great timing! 2007 started off with a whimper otherwise known as the Vista launch, and now, 5 months later, everyone can't stop talking about iPhone, Leopard, and Apple's stock price.

So does Apple. It classes all Mac hardware and software as "Mac".

Apple has already had two rocket engines going under it for some time, now prepare for ignition of the third.

Should see it nicely into the stratosphere if not into orbit..

That's odd, as I always think of Apple's pro software as another product line.

And, to add to the confusion, Krazit calls the operating system in the iPhone 'Mac OS X'; there are already plenty of people who are incredulous about the iPhone running OS X (not Mac OS X) precisely because they confuse the two; Mr. Krazit isn't helping by doing it himself too.

That said, he is basically right about everything. Apple is set to break records and set precedents on many levels, in the IT industry, as well as consumer electronics industry.

This is already one of those situations where people who don't have any AAPL stock regret for not having bought it last year (or month, or even week), and those who do regret for not having bought more...

As Steve says "it's all about the software, the hardware is simply a pretty box to hold it all..."

Of course, you can't have one with out the other, but you know what we mean here.

And let's not even get started on the critical importance of Apple 'wetware'.

What's up in the air is that he says the iPhone and the iPod are two separate product lines, where remember Steve repeated twice at the keynote 'phone, iPod, and internet device', meaning everything in one device.
I would like a separate iPod, like many, but if so, I would also want the internet features, so...you might as well throw in the phone and just keep it as one device. A $299 price point is essential, though, and sooner than later.

I count 17 product lines.

The iPod, iTunes Store, and Apple TV should be lumped together into Apple iPod/iTunes business.

I also separate out media as a business, and I also separate out retail, because it sells more than just Apple stuff, it sells accessories, service, etc.

No. It's the Summer of iPhone, but the year of Apple.

Check out this image from C/NET. Evidently it's one of a number of large banners hanging at WWDC. Notice the Appleworks image in the background and one 'drawing of the image with a hammer ( signifying work in progress). Could this be an indicator that IWORK is being renamed as Appleworks?
Bringing back the name 'Appleworks' isn't so far off, I mean, the 'I' this and 'I' that moniker is getting a bit old.....It could just be a pod, mac, and Appleworks couldn't it? The laptops aren't I's anymore and it's the apple TV not I TV so why should there be an "Imac"? Time to move on...

grognard: It looks like the Van Allen radiation belt is the secret Leopard feature.

Grognard, check your hard drive, the logo/icon in the banner is the applications folder/sidebar/icon in OSX. I wish they'd morph iWork into a simple to use appleworks bundle, but I don't think it's going to happen.

If they deliver a suite it'll be known as 'MacWorks'.
Steve likes all the Mac products to have 'Mac' in the name. This would indicate competition with Office and a 'new' implementation of 'AppleWorks' at the same time.

ILife and iWork make a strong Mac team out of the box.
