How's that recession we're having?

Jun 13, 09 - 08:25 am Comment from: Zune Tang®

I actually clicked on the link to view more photos and the page confirmed it was another ghost town no-so-grand opening for a MAC store. You'd think the customers could wipe the dour looks off their faces since there wasn't even a line to wait in. Sites like that will be a further embarrassment to MAC after pictures from Zune HD retail events around the country pop up.

Besides, the future is in mall kiosks. The relaunch of Dell's kiosk mall network will bring the magnificence of Windows-licensed technology to the 12 and 13 year-old crowd. From there Dell will build a base of enthusiasts which will leave the already dwindling and disinterested MAC fangirl base in tatters. Buh-bye MAC.

Your potential. Our passion.™

Oh, ZT, you're brilliant!

By the way, was passing through DFW airport this week and saw my first Zune in the wild...and a turd-brown at that. I wanted to say something to the poor bloke who was wearing it, but I felt sorry for him.

Wow! Very long lines, lots of happy smiling ppl, Apple employees look like they're walking on air. Like the Apple umbrellas smile

There was supposed to be a big mall going in near me, was hoping for an Apple store, but the whole project is "on hold until the economy improves." Apple is smart to be a shining light in bad economic times.

Gorgeous store. I wanna visit.

Jun 13, 09 - 10:12 am Comment from: Lord Byron

Great photos. I was there and there were tons of sales being made as well. MacBook Pro's with printers walking out like crazy.

Jun 13, 09 - 10:28 am Comment from: Spark

Looking at those photos confirms that for Apple fans, visiting the newest Apple Store in the area is a true pilgrimage. And forget all that talk about Apple buying Tom-Tom. Apple needs to buy into the Windex company.

Jun 13, 09 - 10:37 am Comment from: swb1192

Zune tang, you are SO wrong. Those pictures don't show that the line was around the whole entire building, and there were hundreds upon hundreds of people there. I was fifth in line, and when I left there were STILL people in line. So nice try, but there wasn't no "ghost town."

Jun 13, 09 - 10:42 am Comment from: mikemilzz

Speaking as someone who was there - it was crazy! The line was so long - these pictures don't do it justice. There had to be more than 1000 people lined up in the hot 95+ degree weather. Apple was very nice to hand out the Apple umbrellas to the people in the sun, and all the employees were incredibly polite.

The store is an amazing work of art. I was wondering about the big back wall of glass and the late afternoon sun, but after the store opened they put the shades down. I stood outside next to (I'm guessing) some Apple corporate people who were very proud and couldn't stop smiling about the whole thing for obvious reasons.

This is definitely THE Apple store to see when in Phoenix.

Jun 13, 09 - 11:59 am Comment from: ballonknot

Looks like the store they're building near me (Manhasset) is going to have the same "see through" style. I'll have to send in some pics of the construction.

Jun 13, 09 - 12:19 pm Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

I was just thinking, if I had the time and money it would be neat to make a pilgrimage to every Apple store in the world!

Oh, and bop over to Cupertino, too. cool smile

Jun 13, 09 - 01:36 pm Comment from: Jubei

Wow that crowd was more than any Pre opening store.... LOL

Jun 13, 09 - 02:28 pm Comment from: jarrettdailynews

Every Apple Store opening has these crowds. How pissed is every other retailer in the world ( The Worldz) that they don't envoke these feelings of loyalty and passion with their own customers.

Apple is what every manufacturer and retailer ( and those that do both) with they themselves were. The admiration can be seen in other electronic device makers products and other retailers stores.

Breathtaking architecture.

Here in Helsinki they wont tear now shit buildings ... they remodel them as committees deem shit architecture worth saving.

They asphyxiate new talent .. they dont give the next generation a chance to clear away the shit of the previous generation at a chance for greatness and exciting architecture.

Just ask about the abomination called the sausage house (makkaratalo). Its a living turd.

Glad to see this exciting stuff, renewal of creativity.

Jun 13, 09 - 03:04 pm Comment from: Olmecmystic

Man, where the bruthas at? Or the sistas? Damn!

Interesting age mix demographically to be shopping in an Apple Store. I see plenty of people my age (49) and older in there. Definitely NOT just kids.

Polar opposite to the Pre launch photos from last weekend. 20 people was a line! Oops. Good luck with that, Palm.

Peace.

I want an Apple umbrella please - Apple needs to start a cool gear section in their store with t-shirts, umbrella's, mugs, pens, etc.

Jun 13, 09 - 03:25 pm Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

@ Steve516,

I've never understood why Apple doesn't sell paraphernalia relating to their products. I'd bet they would have made a nice profit just from what I would have bought over the years.

Good call Zune Tang. This is located right next to Kierland, and of course nobody goes there. Moron. This is a great location and it looks like another great reception.

"They asphyxiate new talent .. they dont give the next generation a chance to clear away the shit of the previous generation at a chance for greatness and exciting architecture. "

That sounds *exactly* like the Jackling House monstrosity that the hack George Washington Smith built that Jobs is trying to tear down.

Zune Tang kills me! The last time I saw lines like this was at the return counters the day after Zunes were released...and they were Microsoft products being returned for cash baby!

Jun 13, 09 - 05:40 pm Comment from: jarrettdailynews

@Sir Gill Bates,

Apple does sell such things.... They have names like, keyboards, mighty mouse, socks, ect and so on.

Jun 13, 09 - 06:29 pm Comment from: Lord Byron

@Sir Gill Bates

they do sell stuff at their Cupertino headquarters.

but i agree they should sell stuff in their stores somehow or at least on their website.

Jun 13, 09 - 07:38 pm Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

@ jarrettdailynews,

Yeah, I have lots of those things. But wouldn't they be considered peripherals - not paraphernalia? smile

Jun 13, 09 - 07:54 pm Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

@ Lord Byron,

Cupertino's a little far for me, not that I wouldn't like to go.

I still have my 'Yum' poster that came with my tangerine iMac on the wall. They should reissue stuff like that, among other things. And my wife would like one of those Apple umbrellas. grin

Jun 13, 09 - 09:23 pm Comment from: jarrettdailynews

As long as I keep getting my free stickers I am happy. Take those away and I will make a "Special" trip to Cupertino.

I like the design of this new store. High ceiling. Open glass front and back. Simple, functional, and unpretentious.

Jun 14, 09 - 11:00 am Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

@ ken1w,

It would make for an awesome home.

Especially for an exhibitionist. tongue rolleye
