“Intel-based Macs can now play host to three operating systems and boot into any one of them at will. The triple-boot technique has been outlined on the OnMac.net website, home of the first code to allow the new machines to run Windows XP,” Tony Smith reports for The Register.
“The procedure’s not trivial, though it makes use of Apple’s BootCamp utility to ease you through the installation of Windows XP. After installing XP, the process walks you through adding a Linux distrubution off a live Linux CD to the dynamically re-partitioned Mac hard drive. This Linux uses a swapfile for virtual memory rather than the more commonplace swap-specific partition due to limitations in the permitted partition structure,” Smith reports.

What the heck? Why not throw in OS/2 Warp, BeOS, JavaOS, DOS, Solaris, Win 3.1 to 2000, all other flavors of Linux, AmigaOS, PalmOS, and VMS?

in my humble opinion if you want to run a Linux varient, get yourself a cheap PC and have it as a stand alone system. Why would you put Linux on top of or along side FreeBSD that forms the basis of OS X. That just seems stupid.

Remember windows 3.1 ran was not a multi-tasking environment??? I look forward to the day that Rosetta or the likes will nativly run programs built for MAC, Windows, or Linux. I work with all three because each platform has it’s strengths.

I once ran FreeDOS inside the Bochs emulator in order to run the famous Gorillas game written for QBASIC on my iBook G4. Now that was progress!
