DirectVoxx unveils ‘muso’ voice control accessory for Apple iPhone, iPod
Monday, July 14, 2008 - 02:37 PM EST

The "muso" from DirectVoxx is a pocket-sized accessory for the iPod and iPhone that allows users to access their music with natural voice commands. The Muso synchronizes with the user’s iTunes library directly on first use and requires no training to understand requests such as “Play me some Led Zepplin”, “How about some Rolling Stones”, “Gimme jazz” or “Go to My Broadway Tunes playlist”. Acting as the user’s personal DJ and creating dynamic playlists, the Muso also allows users to make requests such as “play me something like the last song.”

The muso is totally mobile and self-powered. The battery lasts for 10 hours under normal operating conditions, according to DirectVoxx.

The muso ships with a sync/charge cable and remote control allowing you to keep your iPod or iPhone in your pocket, backpack, ski jacket or wherever you choose.

The US$159 device will be available from Amazon.com in December 2008 and Best Buy January 2009. Pre-orders will be filled directly by DirectVoxx in December 2008.

I'm betting not long before someone does this w/o extra hardware...

@Mr. Peabody
you would need the hack for a usb microphone first.

This thing looks horrid, why cant they just make it an app. Or better yet what the heck is holding apple back from voice dial and MMS

Why do you need a physical accesory to do this???

This is the sort of thing that would sell in millions on the app store.

can some developer create this as an app and upload it on the store?

@jtc says: "you would need the hack for a usb microphone first."

It's been done.

IAP is not exposed through the SDK so you can't get at the iPod... Not officially anyway... If you want to get onto the app store you have to play it straight.

hmmm... per the FAQ, the "first version of the muso will work with the iPod nano"

... voice command for nano ...

very nice to see a small form factor.

(particularly where Cocoa Touch apps are not applicable)
