“Aside from its powerful Spotlight search feature, the biggest new tool in OS X Tiger is Dashboard, a collection of desktop tools and mini-browsers, called widgets, that appear on the desktop and then disappear when you’re done with them. Dashboard is permanently on and is accessible through the Dock. You click its icon to bring widgets forward, and they float above your desktop,” Jim Lynch writes for ExtremeTech.
“Tiger includes over a dozen widgets, like stickies, iTunes, and an adress book, but third-party developers also have come out with scores of widgets. Many of them are equivalent to mini, single-purpose web browsers. You can customize the group of widgets on your desktop, perhaps including a world clock, weather center, dictionary, stock watcher, Yellow Pages lookup, or others. You can arrange the widgets as you like and download new ones online from Apple’s site. There’s even a widget browser sorted by categories such as Financial, Shopping, and Games,” Lynch writes. “We’ve selected 20 of our favorite widgets and present them in the following pages.”
Among the 20 Favorite Widgets listed is the MacDailyNews Dashboard Widget of which Lynch writes, “Get the latest and greatest Mac news delivered right to your dashboard with MacDailyNews. You’ll know everything there is to know in the Mac world without ever having to leave your dashboard. Steve Jobs gets a bad case of gas? MacDailyNews widget will keep you on top of the situation!”

MacDailyNews Take: Thanks, ExtremeTech. We’ll keep you up-to-date on Jobs’ flatulence, if that’s what you really want us to do. Steve’s a vegan, so beans can cause problems from time to time. Rumor has it that everything’s, uh, going smoothly in the Apple CEO’s intestines at this time.

Congratulations MDN! Keep up the great work!
Peace.
This is a waste of bandwidth.

MW:miss yes i missed my weather.

Watch out for evildoers.
Is Extreme Tech on crack or something? The MDN widget is horrible and a complete waste of bandwidth. Do yourself a favor and avoid MDN’s widget like the plague. MDN – do something innovative or don’t do anything at all.
WBW,
You are a ‘tard. Bandwidth is actually saved by using the MDN Widget. I only go to headlines that interest me and directly to them – thereby saving bandwidth for ‘tards like you to waste with stupid comments.
I love the MDN Widget and I use it all day long!
The MDN Widget was one of the very first I ever downloaded after getting Tiger and it’s the only Widget I use every day, multiple times per day.
I use the MDN Widget and I think it’s great! It is simple, does what it’s supposed to do and it just works, just like my Mac.
I’m not convinced of the practicality of such a widget…
If Tiger users have RSS-enabled Safari anyway, why would we also need a MDN widget?
