The U.S Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has published the results of “A1203,” a “GSM Cellular Telephone with Bluetooth and Wifi” from manufacturer “Apple Inc.” as measured by Cetecom Inc.
In other words: Apple iPhone has been granted FCC certification:

Apple requests that the Commission withhold the follwing documents from public viewing for forty-five days after the date certification is granted:
• Test Setup Photographs
• External Photographs
• Internal Photographs
• User Manual
Apples requests that the Commission withhold the following documents from public viewing indefinitely:
• Block Diagram
• Operational Diagram
• Radio Schematic
• Radio Bill of Material
• Radio Tune-up Procedure
• Exhibit Notes

When Steve Jobs said back in January that it would take a few months to get this thing certified, he wasn’t kidding.
This is a nice hurdle to get past, and bodes well for yesterday’s Apple statement that the iPhone was on track for release next month.

NOW THAT I HAVE THE POSTED, I CAN SAY THIS IS GREAT NEWS ALIKE FOR THE CIVILIZED WORLD, THE NEW COMPUTADORA IN THE FUTURE IS HERE, AT LASTS.
Well, they made the submission to the FCC awhile back. I’m sure that the 45 days is just for wiggle room and not an indication of when the phone will be released.
Those pdf’s are obviously not made for human beings to watch :S

I suspect the 45 days reflects the fact that those things will be revealed through early technical reviews following the product’s release, while those items it does not want disclosed “indefinitely” reflect the kind of trade secrets it doesn’t want revealed to competitors.

Here at our shop, we just started an apprenticeship for a guy who has arrived from Germany. He already knew about the iPhone, and he is a Windows user and doesn’t know much about the Mac, other than drooling over PhotoBooth on my Macbook.
To me, that is another good example just how big the iPhone could be, considering he has already heard about it way over there.

I know that Motorola has big plans to compete. After all, they do have a better inside view into Apple then the other competitors.
I hope Apple can squash the copycats. But, as you know, the court system is extreeeeeemly slow.

The post-grant FCC confidentiality is in no way an indication of when the phone will be released.
For one thing, the maker of the product will always extend it past the point of the product’s expected release date just to cover their bases.
For two, it can be extended many times if the maker of the product feels they won’t meet whatever original target date they set. So 20 days from now, Apple could ask the FCC for another 45 day extension of confidentiality should they feel it’s necessary.
How long do you think it’ll take iPhone to outsell stand alone, consumer-purchased copies of Vista?
This phone is going to usher in a new era in personal tech. As a 1.0 device, it’s going to rock big time. Newer and more nimble applications of this tech are going to be amazing.
Apple has some serious room to grow here. We are only now beginning to sample what is in store. Awesome stuff.

No, 45 days is the confidentiality request to keep certain items private after the FCC posts it on their website. It’s why the only thing you see is that lone diagram above.
If there were no confidentiality request, we would have a ton of pictures of the iPhone being tested as well as have the ability to read the iPhone User’s Manual.
I wonder how many pages the users manual will be and if the iPhone will get hacked the TV?
