Feral Interactive to ship Eidos’ Battlestations: Midway for Mac on June 27th
Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 02:44 PM EDT

Feral Interactive today announced Friday, June 27th as the release date for "Battlestations: Midway," Eidos’ top-rated action strategy game for the Mac.

Created by Eidos Studios Hungary, the game invites you to take command of the greatest battles of the war in the Pacific. Players will experience every aspect of combat in a superb blend of action and strategy as they lead a host of US and Allied air, sea and underwater units through intense, action-packed missions in hotspots from Pearl Harbor to the Battle of Midway itself.

"Battlestations: Midway offers a compelling experience,” said Feral Interactive’s David Stephen, in the press release. “It’s an unusual mix of action and strategy with a sophisticated multiplayer mode, and we are confident that the Mac audience will find it an excitingly different take on World War II gaming.”

"We are delighted to have Feral bring Battlestations: Midway to the Mac platform," said Trevor Burrows, Brand Manager, Eidos, in the press release. "It's a game that delivers a new type of game play experience, and one that deserves to be seen and played by as wide an audience as possible."

The game will retail in the U.S. for $49.95, £29.99 (inc VAT) in the UK and 39.95 Euros throughout Europe. It is currently available for pre-orders from Feral's online store here.

Minimum system requirements call for a 1.83GHz Intel-based Mac, 512MB RAM, 128MB graphics card and Mac OS X v10.4 or later.

More details and selected trailers of the game are now available here.

Once again game companies are leaving a lot of $$$ on the table. Like mine. This game will not run on anything but an Intel Mac with a dedicated graphics card. So, my G5 iMac is out, and my Macbook is out too.

After looking at the graphics in the trailers (very 1990s) I can't imagine WHY... I have played more graphics intensive games on my iMac and my Macbook.

Seriously, would it be THAT much trouble to include a switch to allow lower graphics or something so the millions of us on macbooks could play these games too? I am not going to pony up another $800 to buy a Macbook Pro just to play games.

Dude, where are you getting Macbook Pros for only $800?

@marcus

"... another $800..." Above what a Macbook costs.

My 2 Cents:

I'm with you. I have a dual 2.3 G5 w/6Mb ram and most of the new games being developed (at least the ones I would buy) are for Intel only. What ever happened to 'Universal'?

I guess I'll just keep getting killed by the old games.

And by the way, some of the graphics are almost like the older PC games: the characters have bricks for hands and feet. I thought graphics were supposed to be superior on the Mac.

Oops, I just died.

Unfortunately it seems that most game companies feel it's better to bring their games to the Mac using Cider, rather than using a porting house. Cider cannot by it's very nature be Universal since it relies on the Intel chipset to fool the software, so to speak.
