Today at the RAIN Las Vegas Summit, FlyTunes Inc. announced a partnership with AccuRadio.com, an independent, personalizable, multichannel Internet radio broadcaster, that will bring all 320+ channels of AccuRadio to iPhones and iPod touch models.
Building on its patent-pending “Hurricane” streaming technology, FlyTunes has created a complete AccuRadio mobile radio portal that provides a mobile-friendly user interface, targeted ad delivery, and enhanced QoS (Quality of Service) streaming.
AccuRadio, with nearly a half-million listeners per month, is among the top Internet radio broadcasters in the world. AccuRadio’s channels cover a sweeping range of musical interests, including rock, pop, jazz, country, classical music, and Broadway.
“Already, according to numerous sources, there are over 50 million Americans per month who listen to Internet radio,” said AccuRadio founder and CEO Kurt Hanson, in the press release. “Currently, most of that listening occurs during the 9-to-5 ‘at-work’ daypart. But that ’50 million’ number is about to grow significantly, as Internet radio makes the leap onto mobile devices and into automobiles. We’re pleased that AccuRadio is going to be at the forefront of that trend … and we’re pleased to be working with FlyTunes to do that.”

The new service is available immediately. iPhone and iPod Touch users can listen to all of AccuRadio’s 320+ channels by visiting http://www.accuradio.com.

Works fine on the computer but looks like im missing a plugin on the iphone when it goes to play.
ummmm, I can’t get it to work with my iPhone. Works fine off my desktop machine, but it appears to use Flash(?) to run the sound, which ain’t gonna work on my iPhone. Is there a more specific URL I can go to that supports portable devices??
I absolutely love the free internet radio stations on iTunes. Groove Salad is by far my favorite! (found under Electronica)
FlyTunes is a wonderful concept and actually works “as advertised.” but what they don’t “advertise” is how ridiculously quick you battery life drops when using FlyTunes! Beware!!

Excellent music that you will NOT hear on local radio. Thank God for iTunes internet radio for the variety alone, not to mention the quality.

Ah, another Groove Salad fan, I should have known. I used to run it non-stop, but the old down-tempo ambient stuff is really getting old to my ears. I play DI stations a lot now, like Vocal Trance.

Perhaps someone can explain how the iTunes Radio was intended to work. With most elements of iTunes, I’ve come to expect ever more once the basic blocks are in place. More music, more shows, more movies, more iTunes U offerings, etc. Yet I see basically the same radio selections I found six years ago. After all this time, for example, I find a still limited selection of blues stations, and I know there are many more out there.
I get a green thing which says ‘Download’ and that’s all….

There are more than double the number of stations available on iTunes than there were 6 years ago.
I’ve been using Flytunes for a few weeks. It is great for listening to non-music stations in the car, but the Edge network doesn’t have the bandwidth to play music stations on Flytunes. If you want your ears to hurt, try listening to a music station on Flytunes on the Edge network. It is not pretty.
if you love GrooveSalad (I just about never listen to that thing they call the radio anymore) check out http://www.somafm.com they have a bunch of other stations that are great as well as groovesalad.

I believe it is necessary to begin by visiting flytunes.fm and signing up for the FlyTunes service. They will send you an email link which you must click from your iPhone to activate the service. Only then will you be able to access Accuradio content from the iPhone.
