Former employees arrested in Apple facility burglary attempt (with mug shots)
Tuesday, August 28, 2007 - 02:19 PM EDT

Detectives from the Elk Grove Police Department (California) arrested two former Apple Computer employees, Dominic Aguilar, 31, and Richard Mejia, 36, in connection with a conspiracy to burglarize Apple Computer located at 2911 Laguna Boulevard.

Detectives received information that a burglary would take place on Sunday, August 26, 2007. Detectives were able to contact Apple Computer and with the assistance of their corporate security, began a surveillance of the business.

On Sunday at 2:30 a.m., Detectives observed Dominic Aguilar and Richard Mejia gain access to Apple Computer grounds by cutting a hole in an exterior chain link fence. Once both suspects made their way onto Apple Computer property, they attempted to forcibly enter an exterior door to the business. The suspects were unsuccessful in their attempt and fled the area when Detectives approached. The suspects fled on foot into a nearby creek in an attempt to escape.

The Elk Grove Police Department began a systematic search for the suspects utilizing Elk Grove Officers, Elk Grove Police K-9 Units and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department helicopter. Both suspects were eventually located and arrested for 182 Penal Code (Conspiracy) and 664/459 Penal Code (Attempted Burglary).

MDN,
I just had to look once I saw "with mugshots" in the title.

Why do celebrities (and these fools to an extent) look like total crap in every mugshot. Nick Nolte or Mel Gibson anyone?

Aug 28, 07 - 02:52 pm Comment from: Jerry

Just waiting for the Libs to start blaming George Bush for this. And how it's Apple's fault for not catering to every whining demand from these two while they were employees......

Aug 28, 07 - 02:52 pm Comment from: neomonkey

Cubert, Victoria Beckham wouldn't let the police borrow her hair and makeup people after the DMV wouldn't retake her photo.

Aug 28, 07 - 02:53 pm Comment from: Blahger

Holy Crap! I was good friends with Dominic's family. They use to babysit me when I was a little kid. We we still friends up until a months ago when his cousin welched on a $2500 loan from us. I guess it runs in the family.

Aug 28, 07 - 02:54 pm Comment from: Jay

Um, "Apple, Inc."; not "Apple Computer".

Aug 28, 07 - 02:54 pm Comment from: B-Sabre

The guy on the right kinda looks as though the "detectives" had a swell time beating on his dome.

And is it me or does the dude on the left looks like his face is slowly melting or sliding off . . .

Dig a little deeper and you'll find out they're also behind glossy monitors, iPhone batteries and iMovie '08.

At least they will be by tomorrow morning.

hey Jerry
just outta curiosity, whats the "conservative" view of all the scandals currently rocking the dubya administration ?

Honestly, how you get a political inference from a story about two alledged bonehead criminals is beyond me

Go back to your Fox News liberal conspiracy theories and stay off your moms computer !

Aug 28, 07 - 03:16 pm Comment from: No Squirt For You

"does the dude on the left looks like his face is slowly melting"

No, but his cheeks are a bit puffy from the 20 pairs of earbuds he stashed into his mouth.

The one on the right will be hot fun in prison.

Aug 28, 07 - 03:22 pm Comment from: Twisted Mac Freak

. . . . Aguilar is pronounced "AYE-bitch"

I wonder if they'll be hot swappable in jail. Or just plug and pray?

Aug 28, 07 - 03:54 pm Comment from: ndelc

I just looked the address up on Google Earth, and it appears to be a warehouse. That's pretty sad. These guys were probably making decent money working for Apple. Idiots.

Aug 28, 07 - 04:08 pm Comment from: Jailbird Expert

Well I'm sure they don't have a prior record, or else Apple wouldn't have hired them.

So if they sit in jail for a few months and cop a plea, they should be out a few weeks after that.

If they take it to trial and lose, which they would be fools to do so with the evidence against them. Then they could get the book thrown at them for wasting the courts time. 5-7 years, depending upon the judge.

But of course they unfortunatly got press coverage, which is always bad for the perp because the State has to appear serious. So plea deals may be off or a bit longer time than usual.

Naturallly they will get probation, which is worse than doing time because they call your dad your mom your boss your friends, your mailman, piss-test you when you least expect it and so on. Come visit you at your house at 3 am, sometimes making you wear a dog collar. (tracker)

Of course if the jail bloodwork tests positive, that influences the judges decision too.

If the guys are drug addicts, and come clean and ask for help, they could get three months or so in rehab and then be placed on probation.

The threat of longterm prison time is used to rehab first timers.

Of course last I heard in CA three strikes and your in for life. This might only apply for violent offenses.

Of course the DA and cops could throw on some extra charges, like resisting arrest, to highten the jail time.

Games the State likes to play once they got your ass....

Best thing? Don't do the crime unless your willing to do the time.

@ndelc

Former Apple employees, usually that means their employment was terminated before the event, probably got fired and decided for payback... oops. smile

Aug 28, 07 - 04:14 pm Comment from: Newmanstein

They'll both just claim Mexican citizenship and they will not be prosecuted and they will be deported back to Mexico...which really means they will both be back next week!!! They shoulda robbed the Dell factory in Austin...alot less smart people work there...they might even give them some units for free.

Aug 28, 07 - 04:19 pm Comment from: Jailbird Expert

They'll both just claim Mexican citizenship and they will not be prosecuted and they will be deported back to Mexico...which really means they will both be back next week!!!

Nope, they do the time first before deportation.

In fact, because they would be deported, they do MORE time and not get probation like U.S. citizens would.

Then they have to wait for the understaffed INS, under the DHS to drive them to the border, another few months of day to day waiting, which is mental torture. The last few weeks of your time is the absolute slowest thing you'll ever experience.

By the time they are done, they won't want to come back to the US.

Dangit! Now how are we going to find out about the next iPod before it's announced.

What do you think they were trying to do other than steal prototypes for Engadget to report on?

I want to know which stupid fool said, "Hey, I've got an idea!"

And which was the stupidest one that said, "Yeah! Good idea! I'm in!

Aug 28, 07 - 07:06 pm Comment from: LorD 1776

These guys were hired by Steve Ballmer's kids. They were going to get an iPod one way or another. Oh well, better dig those Zunes out of the garbage.

..if they turned around ..if they turned around ..would there be a happy face. oh, I do so cherish the thought that they'd do a 180 ..oh, yes, they'd do a 180 and each would be sporting his own little smile. That's really all a mug shot ever needed ..just a nice little bit of a grin on the backside of a criminals head.
