Masnick reports, “The tax would apply to any iPad or Android-based device, but apparently Windows tablets won’t be counted, since they’ll be classified as full computers, while the other tablets are in this new taxable category.”

MacDailyNews Take: If this passes, Ballmer’s brilliant strategy of using Windows instead of Windows Phone ’07 for tablets just might to corner the highly-coveted cheap French n00b tablet market.

  1. Taxes and more taxes.

It might slow iPad sales but France’s citizens are the one’s who will make that decision. Add your tax and the merchants will begin offering rebates.

Does finally declaring the iPad a computer end France’s tax law?

  2. It’s apparent that they’ll raise more tax that way, if it were the other way round and there was a tax on Microsoft tablets their income would be €0 whereas this way they’re take a cream off the top of iOS and Android and Chrome tablet sales.

Hey French people, simply go to your neighboring country and buy from there. Although knowing the French they’ll lobby to make this an European Union wide tax.

  3. Frederick Bastiat, author of The Law in 1850, is doing back flips in his grave.

These commies all over the world are out of control. Another excuse to steal rights and private property. Lie, cheat, steal, whatever it takes to completely take over and a chosen few tell all of us minions what we’re allowed to do and think.

    NO WAY!

  4. Democrats love the French, the same thing is probably buried in our horrific new health “scare” theft law. Just like the 1099s for anyone paid over $600 from a business. If said business forgets to file the form there’s a new million dollar tax hidden in the health nightmare bill to directly attack small business in the US. You liberals are out of your minds.

  5. Macromancer, your powers of observation never cease to amaze. Nothing like spoiling the ending of a good thread in the making.

Frederick, please tell me you’re French or have relatives affected by this bit of news, otherwise STFU! Stop trying to make sense of the world you live in, especially for the sake of those of us who are dying and could care less how much your pussy hurts!

    Bastiat? Puh-leeze.

I can haz wtf, stop making sense, you’ll spoil it for the curmudgeons among us.

This tax is just a proposal, not the law! We’ve seen what happens over there when you try to raise tuition, they kids burn the place down.

Over here though, Americans just keep taking it up the ass, from your employer, the government, your neighbors, everyone is chipping away at your backbone! Too many of you are like frickin’ sheeple.

I smell an uprising, from the poor! They’re coming to burn your house down and take your stuff. Looting will be out of control until the poor have suckled themselves fat, dum, and happy once more.

  6. Q: Why are all the French streets lined with trees?
A: Because the Germans like to march in the shade.

    Just kidding …

    I love French Fries ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  7. Wow that G4Douchbag is completely NUTZZ! Par for the course for liberals. This tax sucks. Liberals suck. We will vote you panzies out of our hair in 2012.

The iPad is a computer. The French are pathetic. Love their food and Paris architecture and the countryside. Too bad the people there are communists.
