Get ready for new Apple iPods, overhauled MacBooks, and refreshed iMacs
Wednesday, August 27, 2008 - 04:47 PM EST

"With a multinational iPhone 3G launch now successfully under its belt, electronics maker Apple Inc. is preparing to close out the year with a final phase of product introductions that will stretch over the course of the next two months," Kasper Jade reports for AppleInsider.

"Included on the company's roadmap are new iPods, overhauled notebooks, and refreshed iMacs, according to people familiar with the situation. They say availability of those products should follow that particular progression, with a handful of ancillary announcements staggered in between," Jade reports.

"It will all kick off in September when the Cupertino-based firm attempts to dazzle the media through the showmanship of chief executive Steve Jobs, who will headline an event believed to be tentatively scheduled for the second week of the month," Jade reports.

I don't know. Can he really pull that off?

"With a multinational iPhone 3G launch now SUCCESSFULLY under its belt"

LOL

I guess you haven't used a 3G iPhone? Let alone software 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2. Let;s not even mention Mobileme.

To call the 3G iPhone rollout anything but an incredible success would be uninformed.

Aug 27, 08 - 04:15 pm Comment from: HMCIV

Remember that fire at Apple a couple weeks ago? Some product releases take more practice than others.

Ten posts as I write this and we've got stock dip, snappier, 3G failure, MobileMe failure, and health issues, but nothing on mid-range towers/headless Macs or glossy screens?

Come on, people. Stop slacking!

Aug 27, 08 - 04:35 pm Comment from: JAYGEE

As long as the iPod touch has an external speaker, I'll buy one.

People say the iPod touch shouldn't have an external speaker, but it is more than an iPod, it is an internet device, and gaming platform. It needs a speaker.

Aug 27, 08 - 04:38 pm Comment from: kirkgray

Snappiness will abound!

Aug 27, 08 - 04:41 pm Comment from: Tranz4mr

Didn't they just update the iMacs in July?

Aug 27, 08 - 04:47 pm Comment from: stan

I'm so inspired by my iMac's glossy screen that I have shaved my nutsack and shined it glossy. If I yank my scrotum I can see the reflection of my balls in the glossy screen, and reflection of the glossy screen in my glossy balls. It is a glossy dream come glossy true! On my SACK!

"However, and despite on-and-off-again background noise, the event will not give birth to a new breed of handheld multi-touch device, those familiar with Apple's plans say."

Great. That's precisely what I had my eyes on.

@ Stan

That is one of the funniest posts I have seen yet. Thanks for the gut buster! lmao!

The standard of posts so far on here is at an all time low. Bill Gates got too much time on his hands I wonder.

Might give it a try myself!

Apple's on track to outdo the ImageWriter II's production run....

Trans4mer said: "Didn't they just update the iMacs in July?"

Actually it was at the end of April. I doubt very seriously that Apple would be refreshing the iMac that quickly.

You're going to love the new, all aluminum iSack touch. It has a MUCH stronger vibrate mode than the iPhone. (But the secret is in the sauce.)

Aug 27, 08 - 05:59 pm Comment from: Afib is a loser

What about the mini?!?!?!?! The imacs were just updated what 3 months ago or so? The mini needs something, either kill it so we don't wait for an update or just update the darn thing!

Aug 27, 08 - 06:17 pm Comment from: StarkReality

How about some testing this time?

>.>

Aug 27, 08 - 06:21 pm Comment from: ken1w

It seems a bit early for new iMacs, but maybe Apple is adding a quad core at the top end.

I have a feeling that it's time for the last hard drive -based iPod to say good bye. If the iPod touch gets upgraded to 64GB at the high end, that is big enough to remove the fragile hard drive from the lineup. Or maybe Apple will go to the 100GB 1.8-inch drive and keep the "classic" around for one more holiday season. Toshiba does have that single-platter (thin) drive readily available.

Aug 27, 08 - 06:28 pm Comment from: R2

A poster from AppleInsider,

"Apple's Multi-Touch technology is seriously stunted on the small screen of the iPhone and iPod Touch. I love those products for what they are, but zooming and panning the web on them is really getting old. Apple is sitting on a gold-mine tech here. Let's get the iPhone OS's touch GUI on something just a little bigger!"

Couldn't agree more. It's like Apple is teasing us with the iPhone and iPod touch at this point. Give us the next step already.

stan,

That makes two of us!

Aug 27, 08 - 08:15 pm Comment from: Mac Man By Choice

I think that the iMac update could happen if the alleged updates occur over a two month period or so. If the iMac update were to occur lastly after the iPods and Notebook updates then it would put the iMac refresh at 6 months after the last update. Six months would not be too early for Apple to be looking at a possible iMac refresh. This is especially true if the update is simply a speed bump and HD capacity bump. However, I suspect that it might also include a Blu-Ray option this time. Oh, and I think the glossy screens will stay with little or no hope for a anti-glare screen option. Personally I like glossy screens as well as a anti-glare screen so for me it's not an issue.

I'll be purchasing a new Mac probably after this next hardware update. My G4 PM is getting long in the tooth.

Oh and I'm staying un-shaven thank you! LOL!

Is this some kind of gay guy hangout now?
Stan and the ones who like his obnoxious post - just go away.

Aug 27, 08 - 08:33 pm Comment from: Eric24601

that fire from a couple of weeks ago at apple camps was caused by some geeks playing around with the interdimensional worm holes that canl be accessed through the iphone, and it will be incorporated in future versions of the device.

Aug 27, 08 - 08:36 pm Comment from: las bolas

I don't know how you got to gay from a joke about glossy monitors and shiny balls. Either you're over thinking it and need to lighten up or you're making a confession. Or both. We won't judge.

They are updating their Mac's for back-to-school when?!?!? After most students already start school?

Apple really needs to work on their school schedule.

I couldn't agree with you more. The 2.0 iPhone software sucks. Backups take way too long, installing apps will cause your phone to brick, and the battery life sucks. Not to mention the MobileMe fiasco. My old microsoft mobile phone was more reliable......

Aug 27, 08 - 09:37 pm Comment from: MaLvado

No new products until October actually.

Dasgeek: To call the 3G iPhone rollout anything but an incredible success would be uninformed

Dasgeek, if you mean by success number of units sold, then yes. but not pointing out a very slow iphone 3G that loses connection and a software that crashes every now and then plus as many software updates as worthy microsoft in one month is just uninformed.

Again, Steve will prompt up on scene and some will say: -" Look how thin he is! Almost as thin as a european!... This guy must be ill of somtning!"

Hopefully not... rather get concentrated on technology...

iPhone 3G launch has been and continues to be a fiasco here in Spain!

Before you all start stoking the hype machine, reflect on all the things Apple didnt deliver in the past quarter.

Damn it! I want an updated mac mini to use as a HTPC and an updated 30" cinema display.
Oh, and something between the imac and the mac pro would be nice

When you buy one, it's NEW out of the box.

Aug 28, 08 - 08:14 am Comment from: MacintoshSoftwareList.com

New iPods will be what I am looking for. If you would like to have your app listed on Mac Software List just pop over and submit it. I think the iPod Mac OS is the way of the future. And, iMacs are nice too:)
