Hell hath frozen over: PC Magazine launches 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro giveaway
Wednesday, November 15, 2006 - 04:13 PM EDT

There was a time when if someone had told us that PC Magazine was holding a notebook computer giveaway for an Apple Mac, we probably would've stared at them while wondering what (and how much) they'd been drinking.

Well, times have certainly changed:

PC Magazine has announced their "Apple MacBook Pro Giveaway!"
Apple's new MacBook Pro is ideal for creative professionals looking for a feature-rich system with plenty of screen real estate. The MacBook Pro is the lightest 17-inch notebook available! Features include an excellent software suite, an extra USB port and an iSight camera!

Nov 15, 06 - 05:17 pm Comment from: duper

I wonder why on earth they lowball the value for the 17'' MBP. $2,000?

An extra USB port? Wow, PC Magazine sure knows how to make a product sound exciting.

Nov 15, 06 - 05:19 pm Comment from: Cynic821

I can really use an extra USB port.

Nov 15, 06 - 05:22 pm Comment from: Jon

Since this is PC Mag, I assume it will come with Windows installed, which might be what devalues it to $2,000.

Nov 15, 06 - 05:22 pm Comment from: fandango

Title should read: "Hell Hath Frozen Over."

or, "Hell Freezeth Over."

"...Hath Freezeth..." is incorrect 'Ye Olde English'.

Nov 15, 06 - 05:22 pm Comment from: ?what?

for a notebook 2 usb ports is awesome you freakin noob

Nov 15, 06 - 05:23 pm Comment from: emax

Nov 15, 06 - 05:26 pm Comment from: BuriedCaesar

Hey, a MacBook is a MacBook. Doesn't matter how they position it. If you don't want it, don't enter. Better odds for me!

Nov 15, 06 - 05:29 pm Comment from: montex

Ok, I'll risk the spam. It would be worth it to win a 17" MBP!

Nov 15, 06 - 05:31 pm Comment from: To BuriedCeasar

"Doesn't matter how they position it. If you don't want it, don't enter"

Um. I think you've mistaken this site for a PC site. Everyone here would love on, I'm sure.

Nov 15, 06 - 05:42 pm Comment from: Ray

Uh duh...The Eagles already played the reunion concert...Hell froze over a long time ago.

Now that said, Pigs are flying because of this contest.

Nov 15, 06 - 05:53 pm Comment from: mac user 47

Sorry, Pigs flew when Pink Floyd with Roger Waters played recently...

Nov 15, 06 - 05:53 pm Comment from: maczac

Ray by "Pigs" you meant "chairs" right?

Nov 15, 06 - 05:54 pm Comment from: mac user 47

... Floyd (played) with ...

Nov 15, 06 - 05:56 pm Comment from: Fanatic Realist

So, to sum up…

The world's best golfer is black!

The world's best selling rapper is white!

Not only do the Germans not want to go to war, they want to prosecute Americans for war crimes!

And now, PC Magazine is offering Macintosh systems as giveaways.

We live in a strange universe.

Nov 15, 06 - 06:36 pm Comment from: DistantThunder

Fanatic Realist: We live in a strange universe.

Your statements pertain only to Earth. None of these things happen on Mars.

Nov 15, 06 - 07:11 pm Comment from: jay

There's still that backhanded s**t about "creative professionals" when mentioning Apple. I guess the "real" business professionals use the ooze known as Doze.

Nov 15, 06 - 07:19 pm Comment from: gwm

Canada not eligible. pffft.

Nov 15, 06 - 07:23 pm Comment from: Gavron

fandango,

you took the words out of my typing fingers.

MDN's headline is quite an ignorant misuse of 'old' English. As you say it should read: 'Hell hath frozen over.'

MDN! Get an education!

Nov 15, 06 - 08:37 pm Comment from: Mark

I'm waiting for the day when PC Magazine has a small part of its magazine dedicated to Apple stuff.

Nov 15, 06 - 09:36 pm Comment from: Rabid Dog

Once the butt of jokes at PC Magazine, the Mac has returned.

Now give me my Dual Quad Core, SLI/Crossfire, BlueRay Mac Pro. Dammit.

*tapping foot impatiently*

Nov 15, 06 - 09:58 pm Comment from: Angelina Jolie

Did you ever fart so hard you ended up in another zip code?

Nov 15, 06 - 10:00 pm Comment from: Ricochet Rabbit

"Hell done froze over" would have been acceptable too.

Nov 15, 06 - 10:03 pm Comment from: Nick

Odd that they list the system value at $2000.

Nov 16, 06 - 02:21 am Comment from: TheConfuzed1

The period after the link is causing it not to work.

Nov 16, 06 - 07:41 am Comment from: fandango

Ricochet Rabbit,

LOL

Followed by a "Yup, it shore did."

That cracks me up...
