Hilton to lure Apple iPhone, iPod touch users with seven new apps
Monday, November 09, 2009 - 01:44 PM EST

"As more travelers arrange their hotel stays on the fly, Hilton Worldwide today will announce plans to launch seven, chain-specific applications for Apple iPhone and iPhone touch users," Barbara De Lollis blogs for USA Today.

"The apps will let users find hotels in cities where they've just landed using GPS technology; book, cancel or change their reservations, check Hilton HHonors loyalty points and even order a late-night snack," De Lollis reports.

"The seven apps are interconnected, which means that a customer who uses a Hilton app can book a room at a mid-priced Embassy Suites or at a luxury Conrad hotel," De Lollis reports.

De Lollis reports that the apps should "become available on iTunes in quick succession starting in about a week or two, pending Apple's approval. Hilton already submitted the Hilton and Doubletree apps, so they should be the first to appear."

Couldn't this have just been one app ? Is there a user benefit for making them 7 different apps?

Nov 09, 09 - 01:49 pm Comment from: Cubert

One of them has to be "Spot Paris Hilton's Upskirt Shot".

@twilightmoon

No user benefit. The benefit is for Hilton to have a larger presence in the App Store.

So why not write one app with all seven chains built-in?

Or do they just want more shelf space on Apple's App store?

iPhone looks cheaper now.

Darn. I thought they were talking about Paris Hilton.

Here's a case where Apple can show value by requesting Hilton consolidate into one app. I really is the same app... they're looking for store real estate.

This will actually back fire on Hilton in (at least) two ways... (1) They'll spread the downloads, so less chance of being in a top downloads category... and (2) Hilton has to manage 7 versions of the app. Regardless of how similar the code is, they have to update each one and wait for each revision to be approved. One app would have been much simpler.

Which of the 7 will give anyone a shot of porn making glory with Paris?

Nov 10, 09 - 01:39 am Comment from: Cubert

@x,
Unfortunately, none of them.

7 apps is just dumb, make one app to rule them all!

Not interested. Better value hotels are everywhere, why support the dowry of the brainless floozie?
