Hola, México: Apple opens online Store for Mexico
Tuesday, November 20, 2007 - 03:31 PM EST

Apple today opened Apple Store online for Mexico.

MacDailyNews reader "since185" explains, "This is great news. I just bought a 24-inch Aluminum iMac a few weeks ago, having to drive 2 hours away to Cancun to an Apple authorized reseller after waiting 1-1/2 months for it on backorder."

"Before today, one had to go to Apple Latin America site which would just give you a list of the Apple Authorized resellers in Mexico and always quoted prices in US Dollars which would be converted to pesos when sold," explains "since1985."

"since185" explains, "As of today, one can go onto Apple Mexico's online store and order iPods and Macs and have them delivered within Mexico, and all prices quoted are
pesos."

Visit Apple Store Mexico here.

It's about time; I was very surprised to notice that Apple had neither an online store in Mexico nor in Portugal up to now. Way to go, manzana!

$32,000 for a Mac Pro... I'm glad that's not US dollars. grin

Nov 20, 07 - 04:37 pm Comment from: Mac Gic

I got two mac in mexico, one in Tijuana and the other one in Monterey (Mac Gic), and both sellers chargers me a lot of extra tax or I do not know what they are charging because even the customs tax was not so high. Besides that, there were lose parts on my mac book and they did not take responsibility for that. Thanks God we now have apple in mexico.

"$32,000 for a Mac Pro... I'm glad that's not US dollars"
The way the buck's going through the floor, it might be US$ in a short while.

This may actually have a negative impact on the U.S. Apple store sales as Mexicans usually buy they gear north of the border. An efficient Apple online store could be key to properly account those sales to Mexico. You would be amazed at the large numbers of iPhones used in Mexico City, all of them obviously bought in the U.S. like most of the iPods and Mac notebooks you see down here.

This is great news, when you pull out our IVA tax, we are almost at par, about a 10% hit, but well worth not having the hassle to bring down!!

"since1985" where are you??, we are in Playa

I have an iPhone on telcel I'll let you play with, lol

I heard that the U.S. is moving to something called "Zune Points".
Bill's yacht. Lots of alcohol. Politicians. Strippers. Ballmer with a Super Soaker.

Nov 20, 07 - 04:47 pm Comment from: hotinplaya

Geeez Dutch!

You don't want us to work in the USA!

But now you are worried we won't spend our money in the USA??

"Ballmer with a Super Soaker."
You mean he's running around with one of his shirts? yuck!

Apple exploiting Mexicans too now!

When will this madness end?

Nov 20, 07 - 05:02 pm Comment from: since1985

@hotinplaya

I always wondered if "hotinplaya" meant you were in Playa (everyone else: locals call Playa del Carmen simply "Playa"). I'm about 20-30 mins. south, depending how fast you speed down 307.

You have an iPhone working on TelCel? No problems? Mmmm... my girlfriend wanted to give me an iPod Touch for xmas, but now....

Nov 20, 07 - 05:37 pm Comment from: Dutch

hotinplaya, What do you mean? I guess you misread my post. I just want Mexican sales being correctly accounted. Until now, Mexico seems like a minor market to Apple because Mexicans tend to buy mobile products (those that can be easily smuggled through the customs) in the U.S. If Mexicans start buying locally because they no longer see unreasonable price differences, the Mexican market my look more attractive and we may get much better support.

Nov 20, 07 - 05:47 pm Comment from: AmbassadorT

They opened the First Portuguese Online store last week too.

Nov 20, 07 - 05:58 pm Comment from: hotinplaya

lol

O kay Dutch, I am with you!! and you are right, looking thru the store, take out the IVA (our National tax) we are about 10% difference, and now with a business we can right off!!

Next we need iTunes Store, then the iPhone

@ since1985 "I'm about 20-30 mins. south" if you mean Tulum?
We will soon be neighbors, we are waiting for permits to start building, email me

Yes, no problems with TelCel, course no visual voice mail, and I do not use edge ($$$$$$) and I am in wifi range most of the time.

and before any one bitch's I would gladly be legit, if iPhones were available!!

Nov 20, 07 - 06:04 pm Comment from: Mac-nugget

@Dutch
Yes I think he misread your post. Apple is hugh in Mexico, as far as graphic design and video production. But beyond that, it is starting to grab more market. I know that frustrated Windows users are not exclusive to the US.
One more thing to note is that the iPhone is very popular in Mexico. Dutch is correct.

I wonder if this is a precursor of an iTMS in Mexico and the introduction of the official Mexican iPhone?

Nov 20, 07 - 06:25 pm Comment from: hotinplaya

@Dutch
"the Mexican market my look more attractive and we may get much better support."

Are you in Mexico?? and if so where??,

@Mac-nugget, yes Apple is big here, and growing!! even though many hurdles, my 3rd grade daughter came home from school, and asked me about Bill Gates (if he was still alive) I asked why are you asking about him? She learned in her weekly computer class that day, that Mr. Gates invented the computer!

I figured it was time to set her straight!! (and her teacher)

Hi there.

@Mac Gic.
It's not good to hear about your problems here in Monterrey. If I remember well, this is the second time you complain. We deserve to know where did you buy your Macs so we are aware of that dealer.

I hope the oppening of the Apple Store in México means that soon the iPhone will be available.
Which carrier? It could be Movistar (Spanish Telefónica) or Telcel (from Carlos Slim, the whealthiest man on this planet).
Personally I preffer Telefónica, but if not, I will hack the phone.

Nov 20, 07 - 07:01 pm Comment from: Alf

Yes... Mexico Apple store is a big news!!!, really... for sure all apple stores located near mexican border will notice... as soon the new Mexico apple store get some attention... grin

Price is ok, because you don't need go to USA to buy it anymore.. So is really good news for public but not for resellers...

Btw... TELMEX is selling apple computers since mid-august (desktop and portables). TELMEX is THE biggest telco in Mexico and as monopolist as Microsoft (if not worst if that can be possible:-)

so.. now just to wait for iTunes Mexico and then iPhone... officially!... my iphone is working pretty well with TELCEL and MOVISTAR.....

have a nice day to everybody!
Alf

Nov 20, 07 - 09:11 pm Comment from: Mape

Esto sí está a toda madre.

A huevo...

Nov 20, 07 - 10:58 pm Comment from: BlissTer

Hope this will reduce the number of mexican who would cross the states' borders LOL

Nov 20, 07 - 11:42 pm Comment from: Leader

It was said that SJ had lunch with Carlos Slim some time back... I guess we know what that must have been about now.

Nov 21, 07 - 12:25 am Comment from: SsnMX

Now all we need is iTunes Music Store and THEN we're cool !

Nov 21, 07 - 06:29 am Comment from: good luck

Having lived in Mexico for months at a time over the last three years, I say good luck getting reliable deliveries unless you're in a seriously major city. But, it's a great step in the right direction...

Apple Store? We don't need no stinking Apple Store.
