This is frustrating. I need to know the cause of these supposed problems. I am having little problem in my area of the US where I expect ATT coverage is very good. The number of bars does seem to way up and way down in 3G without moving anywhere. I think this can happen when the amount of traffic in a cell goes up and down. Not sure about that though.

I am also having issues with the new 3g iPhone. Hope someone admits there's a problem soon and then fixes it.

"LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Reports of dead spots developing on the screen of of Apple's iPhone raise the question of whether the device will stand the test of time, Nomura International analyst Richard Windsor told clients in a note published Friday. Windsor explained that the screen of the iPhone uses a chemical deposition to provide touch sensitivity based on heat. The international property rights for this technology, he said, were purchased from a bankrupt Finnish company that was trying to make a similar device. But that company encountered the problem that with extensive use, the film would begin to degrade and the screen would lose its sensitivity. Windsor said the problem typically manifested itself within three to six months. While Apple should have been aware and fixed the problem, the broker said, only time will confirm that all is well with that touch screen"

Funny, I have those issues with my 2G iPhone at home. I think it has to do more with radio wave penetration at certain frequencies through certain building materials.

I am with you. I have a 2G phone, and at one point inside a building, I could not make a call while others around me seemed to be using their cell phones normally. Since I don't have a 3G, I can't opine on it's performance, but as far as cellular reception, it has never been stellar on my iPhone.

I'm on my 3rd 3g phone. I don't only have some reception problems I am also having problems with the over all function of the phone. It does not work as well or as fast as the 1st gen iphone that I had.

My biggest problem is getting my email. I have to restart my iphone several times a day in order to get my email. I suspect that it happens mostly when the phone switches between edge and 3g.

Well, this is not a pretend issue. I was a first generation iPhone user and now I have to iPhone 3G. It cannot hold on to calls. These issues are real.

Yesterday, I went to AT&T;and they switched the SIM. That didn't make a difference. I could be standing in one place and the phone goes from 5 bars to 3 to 0, then no service and back. It is really insane. Once I turn off the 3G, it is stable.

If I lose a call, I can wait for up to several minutes to resume a signal. Frustrating! Very frustrating!

To the asshat whiners, call your operator up and tell them to get off their ass and get their 3G network coverage up to speed.

Now the reason is obvious: Everything from Europe goes on holiday in August, and barely works for the rest of the year.

Why would any company admit anything without concrete proof?
Infineon, Apple and AT&T;would have to see evidence of issues then investigate the cause. This takes time.

I own a 3G iPhone and I have never experienced this issue.
Then again-I haven't experienced any of the other so called issues people claim with the 3G iphone either.

Had mine for a week or so and have no problems to report. Best sound quality I've had in a phone for a few years, too.

I've seen it in areas of strong 3G coverage, Other 3G phones showing 5 bars, iPhone showing 1 and barely/not able to browse, iPhone showing 5 bars when 3G switched off and browsing OK but at Edge speeds. There's something not right.
