If you step back and look at the whole for a minute, we have such little time on this Earth, and there are people who wait are waiting a full week on a street corner for something that they don't need....

Never fails to blow my mind sometimes.. I'm not saying that I've never 'wasted' any time before (ie: video game ) but this is just dumb.

Waiting a week in line is a bit extreme and borders on insanity

The 3G iPhone isn't all that great to wait that long, these are more likely people who will sell the iPhone to a developer or are developers themselves.

With that in mind, being first to test their product then release it is worth waiting in line for a week.

This is not insane. It's just plain stupid. There will be ample supply of the phone through the coming weeks, and you will be able to buy one a few days afterward (maybe even the same day) as release. Heck, I'm going to buy one, but I won't wait in line for it.

I wish I had that kind of time on my hands, but even if I did, I'd find a more constructive activity.

It's easy to spend a week waiting in line for a phone when you don't have a job, family, or any other real priorities in life. That time spent sitting around aimlessly could have been put to meaningful use... charity work, mentoring, helping out the needy. But instead they decide that being the first in line to buy a PHONE is more important than any of those things.

People with a mentality like that are pure scum, plain and simple. I say round them all up and ship 'em off to Iraq or Afghanistan, and maybe they'll learn that there are more important things in life than the pursuit of trivial, shiny material obhects.

Well, it will be at least ten minutes, since it apparently takes that long to go through the new in-store activation process.

And if it takes 10 minutes per iPhone purchase, it may take a few days for the line to go away this time around.

It sounds odd, lining up in front of a store that's open. But I see where they're coming from.

That's just crazy. It's one thing to be in the line and enjoy socializing with fellow Mac users the night before the release, but to wait a week... Don't these people have a life?

I mean, even for bragging purposes, you'll get a better response telling your grandchildren the party on the eve of a release. Telling them you camped for a week turns you from an enthusiast to a dude with no life.
