iPhone 3G lines start forming at Apple Store Fifth Avenue - a week ahead of launch
Saturday, July 05, 2008 - 12:54 PM EDT

"So we heard some really over-eager folks have decided to get a jump on the iPhone 3G line -- a really, really big jump," Joshua Topolsky reports for Engadget.

"Obviously, we had to head down and see if it was true... and it is," Topolsky reports.

"Right now, about ten people have started a line outside of Apple's flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York," Topolsky reports.

Something they can tell the grandchildren when they get old.

Jul 05, 08 - 01:13 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

Remember how it was told that Apple fanbois gather for "first release" to drink their fancy wines and bottle water, eat their cheeses and baguettes, engage in lively and erudite conversation, and exchange personal info with their new found bosom buddies.

1. Black sweater chick is soooo excited she can barely stifle a yawn.

2. Ball cap guy is staring blankly into space reading his paper upside down.

3. Red shirt guy is sick to death of the jokes told by maroon shirt guy he's ready to puke.

4. Anonymous person cringing under green tarp is wishing maroon shirt guy would just go away.

5. White shirt and head garb chick is staring blankly into space, too.

Wow, Apple fanbois really know how to party!

Jul 05, 08 - 01:23 pm Comment from: almux

Don't worry Ha, ha, ha, you'll find your joy someday and you'll forget to send desperate messages of frustration like the one above...
Good evolution, dear.

Jul 05, 08 - 01:28 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

Almost forgot, then there's glutes on concrete sandal guy, busily typing on his Macbook Air, no, wait, that's not a MBA, it's an obsolete all white Macbook.

Has anyone seen a MBA except at Macworld Expo and inside the Apple store?

Jul 05, 08 - 01:30 pm Comment from: almux

You will get one when you deserve it... wink

Jul 05, 08 - 01:31 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

almux,

I'm not frustrated. I receive hours of entertainment from you fanbois. You nitwits keep giving and giving and giving.

Jul 05, 08 - 01:32 pm Comment from: The Other Steve

"Black sweater chick is soooo excited she can barely stifle a yawn"

She's waiting in line for a week! What do you expect?

Jul 05, 08 - 01:32 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

almux,

I'm punished enough with Apple's buggy OS.

Jul 05, 08 - 01:32 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

haha... I've seen a ton. At the airport and on the plane when traveling for biz...

Jul 05, 08 - 01:35 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

The Other Steve,

She's waiting in line for a week!

That would mean that she will be waiting in line uninterrupted for TWO weeks to get her iPhone. How often do you fanbois have to change out your Depends?

Jul 05, 08 - 01:38 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

Jim - TIV,

A ton? Seriously? Are you sure that you're not counting the same MBA more than once?

Jul 05, 08 - 01:40 pm Comment from: Jay-Z

@ Ha, ha, ha:

Must be easy to criticize people from the comfort of your mom's basement.

Jul 05, 08 - 01:40 pm Comment from: Splat

It is actually fun, granted I never waited a WEEK but I have waited a day and it turned in to a party....try it sometime...

Jul 05, 08 - 01:43 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

Jay-Z,

As if you had a clue. Engadget has published incontrovertible photographic evidence of the mindless lunacy of Apple fanbois.

Jul 05, 08 - 01:44 pm Comment from: Ha, ha, ha

Splat,

Put yer party dress on ASAP, splat. Things look dull in Gotham.

Jul 05, 08 - 01:49 pm Comment from: Rich Apple person

What a shame that people lead such closed small lives that they have to wait in line for a new iPhone. This is beyond stupidity it shows why a lot of men can never get laid

Jul 05, 08 - 02:02 pm Comment from: Willie G

While I agree that waiting in line for several days to get.. well anything is a little odd, I certainly support their right to do it, and am not so much of a child that I feel the need to come on to some internet board and make make snide comments.

Ha, ha, ha... is this really the only thing that gives you meaning in life? I mean, not only have you demonstrated your ignorance by labeling OSX as 'buggy'; you have also managed to come off as someone truly worthy of all our sympathy. You are a very sad, sad person, who must lead an incredibly empty life to take joy in something so trivial.

So, continue in your bullying if it makes you happy, just know that with every half-witted response you write, you only prove my point further.

Jul 05, 08 - 02:10 pm Comment from: Sixvodkas

Poor, pathetic little Ha, ha, ha

How boring and unimportant his life must be, to sit and troll pro Mac sites?

Sad, sad little Ha, ha, ha?

Unless your mind has become utterly twisted by your hatred of All Things Mac, you *might* just want to take a step back from the computer for 10 minutes and reflect upon how pathetic your life has become.

*sigh*

Dimes to dollars says lamentable little Ha, ha, ha won't be able to drop his obsessive, compulsive behaviour for even as long as that.

Seek professional help, forlorn little Ha, ha, ha.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Jul 05, 08 - 02:15 pm Comment from: NeverFade

If you step back and look at the whole for a minute, we have such little time on this Earth, and there are people who wait are waiting a full week on a street corner for something that they don't need....

Never fails to blow my mind sometimes.. I'm not saying that I've never 'wasted' any time before (ie: video game ) but this is just dumb.

Jul 05, 08 - 02:20 pm Comment from: Raving MacHead

Waiting a week in line is a bit extreme and borders on insanity

The 3G iPhone isn't all that great to wait that long, these are more likely people who will sell the iPhone to a developer or are developers themselves.

With that in mind, being first to test their product then release it is worth waiting in line for a week.

Jul 05, 08 - 02:49 pm Comment from: Ferf Muckmeyer

This is not insane. It's just plain stupid. There will be ample supply of the phone through the coming weeks, and you will be able to buy one a few days afterward (maybe even the same day) as release. Heck, I'm going to buy one, but I won't wait in line for it.

I wish I had that kind of time on my hands, but even if I did, I'd find a more constructive activity.

Jul 05, 08 - 03:19 pm Comment from: The Great Apple Fanboy Massacre

It's easy to spend a week waiting in line for a phone when you don't have a job, family, or any other real priorities in life. That time spent sitting around aimlessly could have been put to meaningful use... charity work, mentoring, helping out the needy. But instead they decide that being the first in line to buy a PHONE is more important than any of those things.

People with a mentality like that are pure scum, plain and simple. I say round them all up and ship 'em off to Iraq or Afghanistan, and maybe they'll learn that there are more important things in life than the pursuit of trivial, shiny material obhects.

Jul 05, 08 - 03:55 pm Comment from: LOL at the Zunies

I love the PC trolls here.
The only lines ever associated with your products are for returns.

Hey man, VISTA!
Nope.
Hey man, Zune!
Nope.

Let's have a Zune social - nope. Only 6 people own them.

Get lost.

Last time around, I strolled into an Apple Store the day after, walked right up to the Genius Bar, and said, "Eight Gig."

Out the door in two minutes.

Same drill this year. July 12th.

Jul 05, 08 - 04:23 pm Comment from: MCCFR

The thing is, given the fact that Windows has a majority of the market, the majority of those waiting in line are probably not Mac fanbois at all, but are instead more likely to be Windows drones who just want a taste of quality software engineering.

A quick survey is called for: What percentage of Intel's US employees will have bought an iPhone 3G by the end of the year? And how will that compare to Intel's take-up of Vista?

Jul 05, 08 - 04:38 pm Comment from: ken1w

@ January 24, 1984

> Out the door in two minutes. Same drill this year. July 12th.

Well, it will be at least ten minutes, since it apparently takes that long to go through the new in-store activation process.

And if it takes 10 minutes per iPhone purchase, it may take a few days for the line to go away this time around.

Jul 05, 08 - 05:38 pm Comment from: Jay-Z

@ Ha, Ha, Ha:

I don't need pictures. I live in New York (decidedly more of a party than your mom's basement), work near the 5th Ave. store, and saw people having a good time at the last launch. It's not what I do with my time, but they were enjoying themselves and not hurting anybody. Most of us wouldn't consider this a constructive use of time, but that's their business, not ours.

Jul 05, 08 - 05:52 pm Comment from: Bread

It sounds odd, lining up in front of a store that's open. But I see where they're coming from.

Jul 05, 08 - 06:05 pm Comment from: ../.

That's just crazy. It's one thing to be in the line and enjoy socializing with fellow Mac users the night before the release, but to wait a week... Don't these people have a life?

I mean, even for bragging purposes, you'll get a better response telling your grandchildren the party on the eve of a release. Telling them you camped for a week turns you from an enthusiast to a dude with no life.

Jul 05, 08 - 06:30 pm Comment from: Quad Core

To celebrate the early liner-upers, Apple is handing out complimentary letter Ls to stick on their foreheads.

Jul 05, 08 - 07:20 pm Comment from: Arnold Ziffel

Just saw a MacBook air at the Starbucks in Kerrville, TX, a couple of days ago.

Saw a MacBook the day before that.

Jul 05, 08 - 07:32 pm Comment from: Jamie

I am looking forward to seeing how the version 2.0 software runs on my 1G iPhone, then I'll be getting my 3G iPhone a few weeks later, after all the hullabalu dies down.

Kudos to the people standing in line, its not something I would do. But happy waiting!

Jul 05, 08 - 07:45 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

hahaha's last post was at 1:23pm. After that he had to ride his bike to report for the swing shift at the 7/11 that's two blocks from his mom's house. He'll be back online after 11 when he get's home and after he takes out the trash.

Good on them. Great attitude.

Jul 05, 08 - 09:10 pm Comment from: shen

wow for the wintrolls.

when you are the minority you have to talk twice as loud and twice as often to matter, huh?

when 2 trolls are 1/3 of the posts, you know the FUDsters are paid by the "submit" click. wink

Jul 05, 08 - 10:27 pm Comment from: KurtMac

I have to shake my head! As much as I LOVE everything Apple and Mac, these people need a hobby (and life to go along with it).

I can understand waiting in line the day before an item goes on sale, but not an entire week. I feel sorry for the Apple employees who have to smell them as they enter the store on July 11.

Side Note: I hope someone brought some toilet paper too!

Jul 05, 08 - 11:05 pm Comment from: scumbags

anyone waiting one week for a phone should be sent straight to the gas chambers. fucking lowlife scumbags.

Jul 05, 08 - 11:46 pm Comment from: marc

sad.
a week b4?
its a phone... its not the lottery
a couple hrs b4 to wait? yes. a week b4? get a life

Jul 06, 08 - 12:02 am Comment from: @ha ha ha

"Wow, Apple fanbois really know how to party!"

And lame as it is, this will still be the defining moment, the greatest achievement in all these people's lives!

Jul 06, 08 - 12:08 am Comment from: Not going to happen

"I mean, even for bragging purposes, you'll get a better response telling your grandchildren "

Lets be honest here. People who wait in line a week for a phone stand a vanishingly small chance of getting into a relationship and having children. And if by some miracle they do, there's no way those children will ever let them spend time alone with the grandchildren.

Jul 06, 08 - 12:12 am Comment from: HMCIV

Okay, waiting in line a week ahead of time *is* a little on the crazy side. But I guess everyone has to find a way to get to Friday somehow.

Jul 06, 08 - 12:37 am Comment from: iDon't

For once, I have nothing to say.

.
How boring and unimportant his life must be, to sit and troll pro Mac sites?

Au contraire, not boring at all! Trolling for fanbois is great sport. Why, just read all the childish rants and inanities you fanbois blurt out. Hilarious, keep ‘em coming!

Surely, there are more important things I could be doing, but hardly anything as entertaining was witnessing you fanbois engaging in public displays of vitriolic idiocy. Who else better to confirm the ridiculousness of Apple fanbois than the fanbois themselves?

Jay-Z,

I don't need pictures.

Of course not, why let reality spoil your fantasy.

I live in New York

Sorry, you lose, moron. New Yorkers identify themselves by their borough – not the city.

work near the 5th Ave. store,

Liar, if you did “work” near 5th Ave you would have mentioned your place of employment or, at least, the street. Let me guess, would that be 4th or 6th Ave?

and saw people having a good time at the last launch.

Again, you lie.

It's not what I do with my time, but they were enjoying themselves and not hurting anybody.

So, you admit that their fanboish behavior is innocuous if idiotic

Most of us wouldn't consider this a constructive use of time,

Like I said, a complete waste of time.

but that's their business,

So? And why do you seem so compelled to comment on my business at MDN, hmmm?

not ours.

It’s good for laughs.

Jul 06, 08 - 03:16 am Comment from: Ho, ho, ho.

Macomancer,

Congrats. You found an activity more sad that standing in line waiting for a new gadget.

Actually, I'm giddy with delight observing you fanbois make fools of yourselves.

Jul 06, 08 - 03:22 am Comment from: Willie G

So, not only does the hyena not have the ability to string together a sufficient defense for the comments he tries to refute, he actually does exactly what I expected him to (see my earlier post) and just continue to prove my point again and again.

You may be getting a good laugh at a few folks with some misplaced priorities, but you are getting laughed at by more than a few of us for your obvious deficiencies both intellectual and emotional.

Keep 'em coming chuckles...

Jul 06, 08 - 05:01 am Comment from: almux

Oh! Sorry for you Ha, ha,ha... If it's your best entertainement, here... But well, no problem for me... wink Have a nice time, then! Hi, hi, hi, ho,ho,ho,ha,ha,ha!...

Jul 06, 08 - 05:11 am Comment from: spyinthesky

Not really sure what the difference is, in stupidity terms of needlessly lining up for a week at a shop or pointlessly lining up to make continuous inane comments on a forum you don't actually support, but hey whatever fills your nappy I suppose.
