Don't know if I envy or pity them...

Jun 27, 07 - 05:36 pm Comment from: Oops

I wish a regular looking person (non obese, non disheveled, non truck driver Joe sixpack) would've beaten that publicity seeker to the front of the line. I'm already tired of seeing him, and he is clearly not a typical Apple type of person.

And yes, I'm a snob, and quite glad to be.

Jun 27, 07 - 05:38 pm Comment from: jarrettnewsdaily

Going out Friday kids in toe. Not buying an iPhone though. Just want to see the throngs of persons in the 108 degree wheather here in Tucson.

Headline...... "Several dead. dehydrated by iPhone wait."

Jun 27, 07 - 05:42 pm Comment from: G4Dualíe

@Oops

You're not only a snob but you're really an asshat and probably a PC troll to boot! G'head admit it, it's okay.

Enlighten us would you? What exactly is a typical Apple type?

Jun 27, 07 - 05:45 pm Comment from: jarrettnewsdaily

Hey look, a persons shortcomings are fine as long as they are able to admit what a fsck they really are.

If this person wants to be a schmuck, they are entitled to be, it's America, as long as they have a high comfort level with the fact that their childhood insecurities cause them to be immature adults, then we should say congrats.

Jun 27, 07 - 05:46 pm Comment from: Edovia

And I thought I was crazy to wait in line for 26 hours straight to see Star Wars Episode I...

@G4Dualie "What exactly is a typical Apple type?"

Justin Long.

You know, there is nothing like this on the dark side. It's really sad that it would take the same company to bring the pc out of the darkness. And, this is the same company that was beleaguered for years; that everyone (most) wrote off decades ago. Sadder still that only Apple could do something this grand. I believe this is SJ's magnum opus 1...

Jun 27, 07 - 05:52 pm Comment from: Paul Zune's Bone Machine

Any of you schmucks made the national media lately?

Didn't think so.

He might be a pot-bellied middle-aged bofus, but he had the initiative to get there first.

Oh, and he probably reeks too.

@G4Dualíe
just because you are over weight dooes not make you the critic here either, what ever happen to happy fat people concept? huh?

Jun 27, 07 - 05:56 pm Comment from: Flashxl

You know I sent my Butler to go wait in line, and I see he sent my cook instead. He's in big trouble. Oh well, I still won't have to pay extra to have them wait for me.
I'd like to know what my Butler's doing though, and who's cooking dinner???

Jun 27, 07 - 05:56 pm Comment from: OMG

What are people thinking!!! Gosh!!!!!!!! I Wish I Didn't Have T-Mobile!!!!

the "typical person" you envision exists only in those ads that have hypnotize you.

Envy their mothers, who are tickled their grown nerd kids have left the house for once.

Jun 27, 07 - 06:13 pm Comment from: iLuvMyMacs

In a world filled with child molesters, drug dealers, rapists, murderers, etc. - they are the losers and scum- not the people waiting in line to by a phone with money they earned honestly.

And to Oops- a message to you... Grow up.

Jun 27, 07 - 06:17 pm Comment from: Swing Geezer

Oops. I'd like to see anyone looking their best after spending a week outdoors in downtown New York.

Jun 27, 07 - 06:19 pm Comment from: Bizarro Ballmer

Apple types are easily seen walking down Newbury st., Boston.

Do ahead, deny it.

G'head.

Jun 27, 07 - 06:42 pm Comment from: Oops

It's interesting that one person's take on my comments in the second post of this thread is that I am a "PC troll" - but that another person's take is that I am such an Apple-head that I have been hypnotized by those Apple ads.

It seems these geniuses are at polar opposites of their interpretation, yet they are both ever so confident in their assesment.

In the first case, I'm not at all sure what it was about my comment that would leave anyone to believe I am a "PC troll". I suspect that when you can't think of anything intelligent to say, you revert to your default, "You're a PC troll. G'head and admit it" routine. Brilliant!

In the second case, I have to wonder just exactly what ads were supposed to have hypnotized me.

At any rate, I suspect those who became upset at my comments were personally stung by them. Perhaps they are slobs like that guy at the front of the line.

And by the way, guys, his name is Greg Packer, and he is in fact NOT a regular Apple customer. This is just another of his publicity stunts.

Educate yourself:

http://www.theagitator.com/archives/006284.php

And, uh, like it or not, Apple customers are not by and large, SLOBS.

Now, you may not like to hear that, but then again, I may not care. Deal with it!

Jun 27, 07 - 06:53 pm Comment from: MikeK

Thanks for the Wiki link. Honestly, I think it's great that somehow this guy has the resources to devote himself to his life's mission: to be the first in line, all the time.

I think it's cool all the people he's met over the years, but I wonder how you make a living as a professional first-in-line. Wondering if he still lives at home, or if there's a Mrs. Packer out there who finances his loser-esque lifestyle.

Jun 27, 07 - 06:53 pm Comment from: Fergy

So what does a bloke do for a living who has the time to spend five days sitting on a canvas chair waiting for a phone?

He may look like a fat slob, but he might also be a rich one?

The rest of us still have to work to afford the phone, eventually!

Is the US welfare system able to support a guy well enough to allow him to sit for five days and do nothing?

Jun 27, 07 - 07:03 pm Comment from: MikeK

Edovia -

Yes, you were insane to wait 26 hours in line to see a movie, especially one as turgid as Star Wars Episode I.

Standing on line to buy concert tickets or some other limited-edition item is one thing. We've all done it. But to stand in line for hours or even days to buy something of which there is a virtually limitless supply? (Like, you know, seats at a Star Wars movie or a new piece of tech that is being manufactured in large quantities). It's the very definition of insanity.

As for Mr. Packer -- a check of the links above (which I didn't do until AFTER I posted...my bad) reveals he's works for a suburban New York roads department, and he uses sick days and vacation days for his hobby.

On knowing all the facts, this guy sounds like quite a character. And while he's not a lifelong Apple fan, he is a fan of being first for anything. More power to him.

Jun 27, 07 - 07:04 pm Comment from: Oops

Anyone who devotes his life to being "first in line" is Grade-A loser. These days, so many people don't want to accomplish anything worthwhile at all. They just want attention. And so, like the Greg Packers and Paris Hiltons of the world, they do whatever they can think of to receive the attention they so desperately crave. Pathetic.

That guy's like Forrest Gump.

Jun 27, 07 - 08:00 pm Comment from: swiftcloud

I think that the lines will be a non issue. I suspect that by late Friday anyone who wants an iPhone will have one. All of the time needed to activate the phone has been moved from the store to a time of your convience. If it is true that you can only get one phone it will be a quick turn around time in the store. Supply will be the only constraint.

Jun 27, 07 - 08:01 pm Comment from: imageone

one word ..........."smelly"

Jun 27, 07 - 08:04 pm Comment from: Reclaimer

New Wikipedia Entry:

Greg Packer, Turd About Town.

Jun 27, 07 - 08:19 pm Comment from: Chris

I think the guy who started the line about 3 days ago over did it. At the end he would of stood, waited, slept, and sat in front of that store for almost a week.
Only for an iPhone? I know its a new revolution to the Mobile phone industry, but does it actually pay? The moment he buys and uses it, it will already lose value ( Like a New Car ). The second it leaves the lot it's price goes down by thousands.

I would understand maybe 2 days in advance which is still too soon but for a Week?

Don't worry about G4 Dualie. He's one of the most stupid people in this forum. Everytime he writes something, all I can read is blah, blah, blah. Arrogant bastard!

Jun 27, 07 - 10:22 pm Comment from: Road Warrior

No lines at the Mall of America Apple Store today

MDW: "soviet" In Soviet Russia, iPhone waits for no one!

Jun 27, 07 - 10:42 pm Comment from: @tisa phone

@tisa phone:

Yeah, "G4 Dualie" does seem fairly obtuse. I mean, just the "G'head admit it" comment alone tells the tale. I mean, who talks like that except a card-carrying idiot.

Jun 27, 07 - 10:46 pm Comment from: Roberto

Retards all.

Jun 27, 07 - 11:40 pm Comment from: Norm

Dear Oops,

The latest figures on obesity for the US indicate that around 60 percent of Americans are in that category. In that respect he's part of the norm.

Now here's an idea. Instead of wishing for a movie star like image why don't you set up an obesity trading scheme (like a carbon trading scheme). Let others go about their lives and you can stop eating. Oh and for the record I'm trim, balding and short. That means I'm not perfect so I guess that makes me normal.

Jun 28, 07 - 12:48 am Comment from: Oops

Dear Norm,

Care to tell me *exactly* when and where I said anything about "wishing for a movie star-like image"? Eh? Can you support your statement? I bet not, in that I never said any such thing.

Furthermore, statistics on obesity are entirely meaningless here. This guy, in his *entirety*, yells "SLOB".

And furthermore again, I never said anything about anyone being "perfect". Did I? If so, again, can you show me? Please do.

The fascinating thing about imbeciles like yourself is that you seem to know only extremes. There is either Greg Packer, the slob, or else there is "movie star perfection". Do you really know of no middle ground? What a pathetic mentality.

Basicallly, what you've done here, and what is so often the case on with internet idiots like yourself, is you've set up a strawman. And if you don't know what a strawman is, then I'd suggest you educate yourself.

And by the way, I'm 6'1", 172 lbs., muscular, blonde hair, and looking good. Choke on it!

'And by the way, I'm 6'1", 172 lbs., muscular, blonde hair, and looking good.'

Male or female?

Jun 28, 07 - 06:11 am Comment from: awesome

It would be better apple people where polite and Modest , more than physical size.

Jun 28, 07 - 06:39 am Comment from: banjo

Don't think physical stature or station in life, think sales and stock price.

BTW, I'm 6' 195lb and greedy!! God Bless America!

Jun 28, 07 - 09:54 am Comment from: Macaday

From the perspective of the rest of the world, the 5th Avenue line can't help but make us think that American citizens ARE obese.

A pity.

I agree with oops, I'd have preferred some non-obese bodies in the line...

Jun 28, 07 - 04:26 pm Comment from: Tom Adkins

Who are these people? Do they have jobs? Shouldn't they be working so they will be able to afford health care and save for their retirements? I always wonder how people have the time to wait like this...does this mean they gave up their vacations to have an iPhone? Believe me, I have been loading up on Apple stock and options (also AT&T;) for months..thanks everyone! smile As the U.S. slides towards becoming a third world country, I worry about how these people will survive.

Jun 29, 07 - 06:46 am Comment from: Ge0

maybe they get paid to wait...
who cares...??
