"Buy Apple (AAPL), Jim Cramer said Friday on CNBC's 'Stop Trading!' segment," TheStreet.com reports.

I like Cramer's advice on AAPL, but not the reason. Clearly the reason is that Apple is doing all the right things.

Aug 24, 07 - 03:57 pm Comment from: Crabapple

No Gnu's! move along now!

Aug 24, 07 - 03:57 pm Comment from: Gandalf

Buy AAPL this week (or next week) because you sold AAPL two weeks ago on good advice of course! Up, down, makes no difference to traders, they make a profit whichever way the market moves provided that people just buy and sell.

Aug 24, 07 - 04:01 pm Comment from: theloniousMac

That is kind of dumb reasoning. That's like saying buy Microsoft. The massive amount of hacking of Windows shows the huge appeal. Don't buy Apple because the lack of hacking on the Mac shows it's not appealing.

The guy is nuts

Aug 24, 07 - 04:11 pm Comment from: rory

cramer is a dolt.

Baaron's did an article on his picks, and he's way below the averages....

wasn't it a week or so ago cramer was saying to sell apple?!

idiot

Aug 24, 07 - 04:15 pm Comment from: Mac-nugget

I see a bit of twisted logic behind his assertion. He seems to be implying that the iPhone does actually have a lot of demand. That this latest hacks will allow not only the use of the iPhone out of the ATT realm, but also in countries that do not officially support it yet. I know a lot of people outside the US that have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of an unlocking mechanism to be able to buy it and use it. Now we will see how well those hacks actually hold against Apples proactive software updates.

Aug 24, 07 - 04:15 pm Comment from: Anti-Cramer

Ah, Jim Cramer. The same asshole who colluded with hedge funds and used his Web site and TV access to spread false rumors to pull Apple down from its recent highs, shorting the stock as they did so. Now he's touting the stock again. He wants to make money riding the stock down, unload his short position, and then make money turning and buying Apple stock on the cheap. All the while, he has misrepresented himself. He's not crazy, though that is how he likes to appear. He's just plain devious. And he does not mind hurting smaller investors along the way. Thank God I ignored all that and simply held my Apple position.

There's a word or two that I could use to describe an ethically challenged charlatan like Jim Cramer. But propriety prevents me from doing so.

Forever is a long time to be in Hell, Jim. What a frigtard.

Aug 24, 07 - 04:17 pm Comment from: John

SELL, SELL, SELL!

smile

Aug 24, 07 - 04:24 pm Comment from: Gandalf

I see the straightforward logic behind his assertion. A few weeks ago he was advising sell and coincidentally or not it seems a lot of people sold and the traders made nice commissions on the transactions. Now he needs to find some 'news' to exaggerate to persuade people to buy, as it has been a slow news day for Apple the iPhone hack news had to do.

No doubt Cramer's insiders bought when he told them earlier in the day, they are all hoping come Monday lots of buyers for AAPL come back. That will be another nice bunch, dozen or couple of commissions for the traders.

Cramer throws more chairs than Steve Ballmer. How is that good?

Aug 24, 07 - 05:11 pm Comment from: Linux Guy And Mac Prodigal Son

Wall street is packed with crooks like Cramer. I don't react to his self serving proclamations. I buy AAPL and hold through thick and thin, since I have no ability to guess the short term. I bet on Apple because they absolutely have it all together. I've made a small fortune on Apple and am betting it will become a big one in just a few more years.

Aug 24, 07 - 06:16 pm Comment from: LOL

Jim Cramer works in the main stream media, what else do you need to know about his credibility? Buy Apple, sell Apple, who would listen to this over-caffeinated idiot? Not me!

Aug 24, 07 - 06:19 pm Comment from: Boshuda

iʻve owned... sold... bought again regular stock... options... CRAMER is just manipulating things...

yes AAPL will get to $200 on day... iʻm just waiting for MacWorld or more accurately when December 2007 call options expire... then uʻll see some action...

of course... then sell day b4 earnings or hedge with some puts... cause thereʻs ALWAYS a sell off after itʻs 1stQ earnings (or holiday season).

Cramer knows alot... no doubt... but he knows how to mess u up.

Aug 24, 07 - 07:37 pm Comment from: TowerTone

Thanks for the advice, Cramer. I also bought some oranges and a couple of cantaloupes. Who's up for a tossed fruit salad?

Hacking the iPhone to do add new functions is different from exploiting a vulnerability or design flaw and hacking windows because it isn't secure.

Well I thought the Windows hackers were adding functions, like the function to access someone else's bank account.

Unlocking and let's not forget those 300 page phone bills that show not only that the iPhone has huge appeal but that it is capable of inducing its owners to use its features like never before.

When has a phone produced a 300 page phone bill before? I wonder if AT&T;and Apple didn't know in advance that the detailed billing was going to cause a stir, but let it happen anyway just to get the publicity.

Verizon must be kicking themselves. It's deja vu. Decca passed on The Beatles and Verizon passed on the iPhone.

@ChrissyOne

You have a certain style, the wise ones will know, unfortunately wisdom is a scarce commodity these days, especially in those who deal with infernal machines.

And if it helps, check out eBay 110161104247 predating the Bard and ilk (well rather depending on space/time) but there be some great images and a fearful two-headed dragon.

Aug 24, 07 - 09:12 pm Comment from: anti-creative cretin

I can't listen to Jim Cramer anymore because of his sound machine. I associate manic Jim and his sound machine with the little cymbal playing monkey ...the cymbal playing monkey who keeps banging the cymbals and who never takes his eyes off you ...ever. I don't trust the little monkey and I don't trust Jim ...my inner child is always running from the little monkey searching for a secret hiding place and now ...now he's afraid of manic Jim and his sound machine. Nevermind that he said nyx was the buy of the century ..nevermind a ton of garbage ..it's the monkey, the manic, staring little monkey and his crashing cymbals.

Clearly the reason is that Apple is doing all the right things.

No they are not!!

They are ignoring the overwhelming amount of seasoned users who prefere matte screens.

Will I buy a glossy screen Mac? Never!

I'll have to fudge on a Dell monitor to something that was a computer from a company that once understood it's core customers needs.

I computer that doesn't cause eyestrain and headaches!!

Damm you Apple!!

Aug 24, 07 - 10:25 pm Comment from: @ Matte Dude

Dude, you don't know what your talking about.

I've owned my new iMac for about three weeks now....I'll never even consider a matte screen again.

The term hacking/hacked has always been misleading whenever used in reference to modifications made to the iPhone or any other piece of hardware. It would be more accurate to say the iPhone was modded.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modding

Modding is a slang expression that is derived from the verb, "modify", and the noun, "modification". The term can refer to the act of modifying a piece of hardware or software to perform a function not intended by someone with legal rights concerning that modification.

ack! glossy screens!

iMovie!

ack!

sell Sell SELL!

also, i heard a report, on fox, that the sky is falling!

nobody will ever buy an iPhone when they don't even have keyboards! ack! sell!

plus, glossy screens!

oh, and you know what else, i can't replace the video card on my iBook and iDVD won't run on my original iMac! zomg!

Apple is ignoring teh customers who want free iPhone sized machines with all the power of an 8 core pro and a magical fold out 17 inch screen that still fits into the phone when you put it away and has wireless firewire (we will call it, "fire") that connects to your terrabyte drive and bluray burner at home.

....is Apple going to listen to the customer for once! i predict "no"!

so sell!

Aug 25, 07 - 10:15 am Comment from: Matte Screen User

shen, at least those other things don't contribute to the decay of your eyesight like glossy screens do.

Really man, wake up.

Aug 25, 07 - 10:43 am Comment from: shen

i agree, you us ld timers know how bad it is!

glossy screens! man in my day we didn't have screens we just had bare wires coming out the back of the machine and you had to lick your fingers, grab the wires, and interpret the picture in your head!

frickin kids these days have no idea.

and the internet?!? we had tin cans with string! we dropped more packets than you could shake a stick at!

actually, despite a few complaints, i have yet to see anyone show actual evidence that glossy screens are bad for our eyes. just a lot of people who claim they are.

....maybe you are going blind from some other habit you have?

MW: "self". how ironic.

Aug 25, 07 - 12:14 pm Comment from: Matte Screen User

i have yet to see anyone show actual evidence that glossy screens are bad for our eyes. just a lot of people who claim they are.

It's a componet of "Computer vision syndrome" which is a widely regarded health issue. You can search WebMD and other places yourself.

With Matte Screens we could use them anywhere without having to change the enviroment to ease the glare problem. Now with glossy displays we have to change the enviroment to reduce the problem. In a lot of cases we can't, like workplace enviroments.

Tacking on cheap glare screens is poor subsitute.

Apple should have allowed the choice of either Matte or Glossy in their products.

It's by not including choice is what is the problem.

Cramer is paid--a lot--for giving any kind of advice. Don't listen! Use your own judgement: it's your money!

Aug 25, 07 - 08:30 pm Comment from: Charlie

Lots of people have been able to do quite well by not paying too much attention to Cramer. If you believe Apple is just starting it real corporate rise, as I do, you will own AAPL shares, period. If you have "day trading nerves" you will buy low and sell high in these choppy waters. Regardless, AAPL trend is up. I'm hanging on to my $112 shares of a couple of weeks ago and will let loose around $150 in a month or two; nice return on a safe investment. The key to that kind of trading is to have a good feel for the price swings and buy using cost averaging as it drops in price. A lot of people follow Cramer's advice but one can take advantage of the fact. Surely the stock will take an other jump on his advice.

Aug 25, 07 - 10:14 pm Comment from: en

Cramer, is just rambling to sell his air time. The time to buy apple was weeks ago when it hit 122. THat would have let you get a $13 advantage by now. grin

Buy low, sell high.

@ shen

Well, in *my* day, we didn't even have wires coming out the back. We had to plug our eyes right into the 150psi line on the back of our steam powered monitors.

And we had to get up 1/2 an hour before we went to bed just to pump the voltage wells up for the day.

You're right: kids nowadays...
