Jim Cramer: Buy Apple; iPhone 2.0 huge, forthcoming ‘Conversation’ product to have iPod-like impact
Monday, April 21, 2008 - 03:55 PM EST

"Buy Apple (AAPL), Jim Cramer said on CNBC's 'Stop Trading!' segment Monday," TheStreet.com reports.

"Cramer said that there is a 'grudging recognition' in the market, especially after Nokia's cautious guidance, that the iPhone will continue to win among smartphones. He said the iPhone is 'huge, and when we get the next iteration ... it's going to be game, set, match,'" TheStreet.com reports.

"Cramer also said that a new Mac product, Conversation, will bring Apple to the forefront of instant messaging. He said the product will be similar to the iPod in its impact. 'The analysts don't see it because the analysts don't use it,' he said. 'I think this is a gigantic product,'" TheStreet.com reports.

On March 6, 2008, Dennis Sellers reported for Macsimum News, "An Apple patent (number 20080055269) for a portable device for instant messaging has appeared at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. It relates, as you might guess, generally to portable electronic devices, and more particularly, to portable devices for performing instant messaging."

How would CRAMER know about this ahead of anyone else? Hmmmm...

Apr 21, 08 - 03:00 pm Comment from: Conversation?

What's known about this rumored product or service? Has anyone else heard anything?

Apr 21, 08 - 03:01 pm Comment from: ElderNorm

What a Baffoon!! I see Apple stock dropping on wed after the report. Or later in June when these SUPER Apple killer products are not mentioned. Pump the stock before hand, sell just before the presentations, Kill the stock after and buy when it hits a low.

These guys should be investigated and if the connection to their buddies buying and selling stock is found, JAILED.

Just a thought.

Better advice, stop listening to this shill who claims he intentionally manipulates Apple's stock with his statements.

Now, how is it of all the people on this planet, he seems to be the only person who has heard about this program, "Conversation?"

Go back and look at what Cramer said about GOOG just before they went up what...89 points in one day last Friday? He doesn't know much more than we do, folks. If he was than knowledgeable and that rich from his investments, would he really need his TV show
and all the radio station touring. He is a pawn just like a music artist. He should state his worth as a credential as to why we all should listen to him.

Conversation, I vaugely remember it being mentioned in the iPhone conference last month... or at least the concept, something about being able to switch easily between them.

How about this article and heading. ???

The heading implies that because this analysis raised his Apple share level guidance that the stock price took off. More garbage. :-(

Apple shares rise after analyst increases price target
Associated Press 04.21.08, 2:03 PM ET

NEW YORK -
Apple Inc. shares rose Monday after an RBC Capital Markets analyst raised his price target for the stock, predicting the company's fiscal second-quarter results will beat expectations.
Apple (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ) shares rose $3.79 to $164.83. The company is slated to issue its quarterly report on Wednesday.
In an investor note Monday, RBC analyst Mike Abramsky increased his price target to $190 from $175 and reiterated his "Outperform" rating.
Abramsky expects the computer and gadget maker to report second-quarter revenue of $7.2 billion and earnings of $1.11 per share - higher than the average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Financial, who expect revenue of $6.95 billion on earnings of $1.07 per share.
The analyst said checks and proprietary data suggest Apple shipped 2.2 million Mac computers in the second quarter, which would be a 46 percent increase year-over-year.

I wonder if it's anything related to the story switch to a mac is reporting about a new device at WWDC

3G iPhone in May, new mobile device at WWDC 2008?

It says that Apple will release the 3G iPhone in May so it can intro a new product at WWDC in June.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the patent for the SMS text application on the iPhone? Am I the only one seeing this?

Apr 21, 08 - 03:18 pm Comment from: Jubei

"Conversation"? Hmmm I bet Google is going to get slammed with searches on that word. grin

Apr 21, 08 - 03:22 pm Comment from: JAYGEE

He said the iPhone is 'huge'.

Not in Europe it isn't. Only time will tell if the 3G iPhone does well in Europe.

Apr 21, 08 - 03:22 pm Comment from: Macintosh

Seriously, I see nothing more to this than the iPhone texting app...

The iPhone has scrolling by gestures (as mentioned in the patent application), and it has separate "conversations"...

This is an older iPhone patent application... Not a new device.

Cramer was talking about iChat, not a new product

Apr 21, 08 - 03:36 pm Comment from: Jeremy

How about some of you actually go and *read* the patent he is referring to.

This is just Cramer manipulating the market again (or trying to). He just wants to pump up Apple stock as high as it will go just before the earnings report. It makes the "sell on news" position all the stronger and makes him a few extra thou for every idiot that buys into this nonsense.

If you look at the actual patent it's nothing at all. It's a simple description of how SMS messaging *already* works in the iPhone.

No new application called "Conversation," no groundbreaking patent, in fact almost nothing at all.

Apr 21, 08 - 03:38 pm Comment from: Jubei

Well how in the heck can you use iChat/iSigh/AV on the current iPhone. I guess you can't. So perhaps the new version will have two cameras. Here's hoping it will happen. This would usher a new era in usable video conversations with smartphone sized device. Looks like Star Trek, Space 1999.... here we come. wink

Apple: all I want for Christmas is an internet tablet. Too much to ask? Please don't let Toshiba, et al. beat you to the punch with sub-notebooks using WiMax!

Apr 21, 08 - 04:31 pm Comment from: HD Boy

I just saw this "report" on Cramer today. The segment lacked clarity, but he was NOT talking about a new product called "Conversations." Rather, he was talking about how his kids eschew regular telephone conversations and instead use their Macs to hold "conversations" while watching TV on the sofa while using their laptops (presumably with iChat IM) instead of placing phone calls. He said analysts don't see this happening among young people simply because they don't use this themselves...

Cramer had segwayed into this while talking about the upcoming iPhone 2.0, which he believes will be an astounding success, and so perhaps he was implying that we'd see iChat on the iPhone, but he did not even say this.. It was a VERY confusing piece -- I even rolled back the DVR to listen a second time. Someone has misinterpreted this...

Apr 21, 08 - 04:38 pm Comment from: MB

@ Elder Norm

The analyst notes were definitely a catalyst for the movement of the stock price today. Upbeat analyst comments increase the demand for shares in any company. Some people actually listen to those idiots.

Apr 21, 08 - 04:39 pm Comment from: Afib

"Conversation"? Nah, just speculation. Apple's famed secrecy regarding product innovation is peanuts compared to the fantasies generated by the rumor mill.

Apr 21, 08 - 04:42 pm Comment from: drcaddy

You gotta love Cramer. At $119 he said, don't buy tech. At $165, buy it. Brilliant.

Apr 21, 08 - 05:11 pm Comment from: Zune Tang®

Now Cramer is on Apple's vaporware bandwagon. Just another MAC lemming drinking the Kool-Aid. Keep buying your AAPL—that leaves more MSFT for me. Dorks.

At least Microsoft is keeping their trap shut when it comes to the next revolutionary Windows Mobile. The fine folks in Redmond don't pre-announce products in the pipeline or stoop so low as to "leak" information to manipulate the market. Their quality, innovation and economic benefit of partnering with fantastic manufacturers speaks for itself.

Your potential. Our passion.™

Zune,

Your best comment ever. Enderle should learn a thing or two from you. He will be much loved then.

Apr 21, 08 - 06:19 pm Comment from: seanymac

Cramer really should be jailed for what he does... He says he can't buy stocks because of the show he runs, but don't tell me a guy that crazy about stocks hasn't set up accounts through friends, nephews, cousins, etc... He gives the BS about how he tells us days in advance what he's doing before he even gets to trade. He's pumping stocks & buying & selling behind the scenes---just my humble opinion.

Apr 21, 08 - 08:53 pm Comment from: Your Mom Bluray

@ Pete

Yeah, but Zune's getting predictable these days....

Zune, your schtick is getting old. Spice it up with something fresh, instead of giving us the same old M$ is great routine.

Elaborate on your warped ideas more. We Mac lemmings need a good laugh once in a while...

got to say, that since owning the stock at 40, i am very afraid that it may tank on thursday and beyond. cramer's army are usually good for a day or two and then bolting. i remember him saying two weeks ago that apple would come crashing down after the earnings report and to buy it before earnings and then get rid of it.

if i listened to everything this guy said, i would be broke by now. looking into covered calls. the difference b/w this and google is that google was unexpected and kept tanking as the earnings got closer. this one is going up 5 to 7 points before earnings daily. not a good sign! particularly in an off- season, ie. not Christmas. additionally, if they report any weakness (ie. ipod sales flat), then this pricing for perfection could be bad.

watch Cramer, but be very careful.

Keep Cramer out of the Conversation. Live peacefully and prosper, eat Frosted Shredded Wheat and Almond Milk. Rules to live by.

Hasn't this guy already proven he knows nothing about "the pulse" of wall street? But since MDN insists on publishing this guy's swill....

March 17th....Jim Cramer: "Bear Stearns is fine!"..."Bear Stearns is not in trouble"..."Don't be silly"

Jim Cramer is no Cosmo Kramer!!!!

Just my $0.02

Apr 22, 08 - 05:50 am Comment from: NCIceman

Cramer is hardly the originator of "buy the rumor, sell the news", but there does need to be some journalistic responsibility when these guys have such an influence over stock price fluctuation...it's a form of insider trading if you ask me.

How about a rule, no personal trading allowed a day before or 5 days after publishing a story on a stock?

Apr 22, 08 - 08:02 am Comment from: BDecker

This article is pure BS. There is plenty of prior art when it comes to IM on a mobile device.

Apr 22, 08 - 08:50 am Comment from: Cubert

A few people above have it right. He simply mangled iChat into Conversations (somehow). There are reports out today correcting it.

Apr 22, 08 - 10:15 am Comment from: doc

Like I have said before, whatever Cramer says not.
