An AT&T employee has forwarded Engadget “a purported memo for AT&T retail store employees that could provide a rather telling clue about the next-gen iPhone’s release date this summer if it proves true.”
Paul Miller reports for Engadget, “A similar memo went out last year around this time requesting that employees not take any vacations between June 15 and July 15, and this year those dates are June 15 and July 12.”
Miller reports, “The memo cites ‘an exciting Summer Promotional Launch,’ which we’re guessing doesn’t refer to some new Motorola flip phone.”

horse-hockey!
Is this news?
I thought we already knew that it would be June 29th, the one year anniversary of the original iPhone.
Looks like June 15th.
@MikeK, I think the way the news was deciphered is the interesting part.
This is only a surprise to someone living in a cave.
I will just mirror here one of the comments on the Engadget site.
Oh great, 10 more weeks of this.
Just release it already!
It’s probably for the BlackBerry 9000.
Oooh! The AT&T;twit feels important passing on insider information to engadget. Where has that idiot been surfing? Certainly not at MDN.
MDN – Boldly serving web pages in 2008 at speeds you were used to in 1998 (☎).
People have also been wondering how Apple will get its FCC approval in time for a launch in June, since nothing’s been announced yet. Remember that the first iPhone was announced five months ahead of its release, at least in part because Steve said something about how he wanted the one to introduce it to the world, rather than having it show up in some FCC paperwork one day.
Maybe the 2.0 model is already being reviewed and they’re keeping it confidential?
I’m hoping they’ll release the updated iPod Touch (16 GB at $299, please) at the same time. I’m ready for that one.
Is ‘purported’ even a word. It sounds made up.
Just because an AT&T;memo asks employees not to take vacations starting June 15 doesn’t mean the iPhone 2.0 will be released on June 15.
AT&T;is just making sure they have enough employees available to handle the new iPhone, which will include preparation for the launch as well as the initial sales rush.

Does your Mac not have the dictionary app? If you open the finder (the little smily at the left of the dock) then click Applications in the left hand side bar, in the window on the left you should see the Dictionary app. LOL.
PS Just kidding.
purport
verb |pərˈpôrt| [with infinitive ]
appear or claim to be or do something, esp. falsely; profess : she is not the person she purports to be.
I hope its a new “itunes rockr” phone…all open faced and vulnerable to pocket dialing. I know this is speculation but just imagine, maybe the new itunes rockr will have polyphonic ring tones and/or mp3 capable ring tones. man…this is going to be a great summer

Couldn’t Micro$oft instead invest 33 billion into making a video watch like the Jetsons? Don’t hold your breath, Zune Tang. By the way, when, not if M$ cancels the Zune, just what will your new name be, ZT?
Do you guys really take Zune Tang seriously? Don’t you see that big bulging tongue planted firmly in his cheek?
Hey everyone. Pay no attention to that article and listen to me.
I heard that a new iPhone is coming this summer. Possibly in June.
Zune Tang is MDN’s resident clown. He’s not really a Microsoft fan, he just likes to get people’s blood boiling. Once you realize that, you’ll enjoy his comments more. Microsoft has so few fans who aren’t over paid “tech journalists” (cough Enderle, cough Thurrot) that Zune Tang had to fill in, even if he’s not a real Microsoftie.
There are million great names for zune lovers:

I could go on…work is really this boring right now…but you get the point.

June 26th Friday at 5 PM just like last year. Makes sense to deny vacations at the beginning of the prior week in order to have a full staff up to speed on the rollout. PacBell etc now the new AT&T;has a long history of deny and canceling leaves around critical dates.
zune tang, don’ t change
