Leaked AT&T memo points to next-gen Apple iPhone release in late June?

An AT&T employee has forwarded Engadget “a purported memo for AT&T retail store employees that could provide a rather telling clue about the next-gen iPhone’s release date this summer if it proves true.”

Paul Miller reports for Engadget, “A similar memo went out last year around this time requesting that employees not take any vacations between June 15 and July 15, and this year those dates are June 15 and July 12.”

Miller reports, “The memo cites ‘an exciting Summer Promotional Launch,’ which we’re guessing doesn’t refer to some new Motorola flip phone.”

  1. People have also been wondering how Apple will get its FCC approval in time for a launch in June, since nothing’s been announced yet. Remember that the first iPhone was announced five months ahead of its release, at least in part because Steve said something about how he wanted the one to introduce it to the world, rather than having it show up in some FCC paperwork one day.

Maybe the 2.0 model is already being reviewed and they’re keeping it confidential?

  2. Just because an AT&T;memo asks employees not to take vacations starting June 15 doesn’t mean the iPhone 2.0 will be released on June 15.

AT&T;is just making sure they have enough employees available to handle the new iPhone, which will include preparation for the launch as well as the initial sales rush.

Does your Mac not have the dictionary app? If you open the finder (the little smily at the left of the dock) then click Applications in the left hand side bar, in the window on the left you should see the Dictionary app. LOL.

    PS Just kidding.

  4. Couldn’t Micro$oft instead invest 33 billion into making a video watch like the Jetsons? Don’t hold your breath, Zune Tang. By the way, when, not if M$ cancels the Zune, just what will your new name be, ZT?

  5. Zune Tang is MDN’s resident clown. He’s not really a Microsoft fan, he just likes to get people’s blood boiling. Once you realize that, you’ll enjoy his comments more. Microsoft has so few fans who aren’t over paid “tech journalists” (cough Enderle, cough Thurrot) that Zune Tang had to fill in, even if he’s not a real Microsoftie.

  6. June 26th Friday at 5 PM just like last year. Makes sense to deny vacations at the beginning of the prior week in order to have a full staff up to speed on the rollout. PacBell etc now the new AT&T;has a long history of deny and canceling leaves around critical dates.
