‘The Complete Led Zeppelin’ now available on Apple’s iTunes Store
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 - 03:31 PM EST

Apple iTunesLed Zeppelin. A name that's probably been scrawled onto notebooks, carved into park benches, and spray-painted on walls more than any other. The name came from Who drummer Keith Moon's idea that the group would sink like a lead balloon. Indeed they would create something heavy, but it wouldn't sink - it would set the model for the ultimate rock band in the years to follow.

Guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones, and singer Robert Plant, and drummer John Bonham united to become the most deified rock band of the '70s, embodying excess, reinventing FM radio, and writing music that made you want to move your feet, shake your fists, bang your head, and basically act like a rock 'n' roll lunatic.

For the first time, Led Zeppelin is now available for download on iTunes. "The Complete Led Zeppelin," the ultimate digital box set of 165 remastered tracks from the group's 13 legendary albums, is now available for download for US$99.99. Other individual Led Zeppelin albums are available at prices starting at $7.92.

Wouldn't it be nice to get a Led Zep special edition iPod with all the tracks pre-loaded, and an engraving/colour scheme setting the device apart. I wish there were more tie-ins like that.

Nov 14, 07 - 03:42 pm Comment from: Jim

Gotta love Zep!

Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You is my favourite, such a powerful song.

"Remember, NO STAIRWAY!"

@ Fatty:

Depends if you like Led Zeppelin.

Nov 14, 07 - 03:52 pm Comment from: No DRM?

No DRM right?

Nice 256bit AAC?

Right? Please somebody?

Bueller?

Led Zeppelin sucks. They're old.

When will Jay-Z's latest album American Gangster be available on iTunes? I can't find it anywhere and it's been out for a week now.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:05 pm Comment from: Jubei

That's awesome. My wife loves LZ and so many of my friends. Yes we're old! Still when iTunes loads the complete box set of "The Ruttles", my life will be complete. wink

Nov 14, 07 - 04:08 pm Comment from: doc

Thy name is irony.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:15 pm Comment from: Gman

hey, MDN..not only did your remove my "old news..zzz" I posted a few minutes ago.....but now I feel the need to say something else...Remember Steve Jobs' old "Gretzky" quote? well, you might want to pay more attention to it.

oh and as of late, you've become very "anti" posting...as a matter of fact, this site kind of reminds me of what I don't like about MYSPACE ..banner ads galore, and poor website performance..especially on my iPhone.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:18 pm Comment from: Hammer of the Gods

If I could get the classic Led-Zep lettering (as above) and the four symbols laser etched on the back of an iPod - ooooooooooooohhhhh Mama!

Nov 14, 07 - 04:20 pm Comment from: Old Fart

Eh, come back in 20 or 30 years and see how many current artists still sell like he Beatles, Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, et. al.

It's amazing how age gives perspective. Oh, by the way...we're the Baby Boomers, and we have the numbers.

MDN Word: expect...and I fully expect the flaming to begin

Nov 14, 07 - 04:22 pm Comment from: Old Fart

Dingnabbit! You KNOW I meant the Beatles, not "he Beatles." Now get the hell offa my lawn!

Nov 14, 07 - 04:35 pm Comment from: sosumi

"The name came from Who drummer Keith Moon's idea that the group would sink like a lead balloon."

So why is it spelled "Led" instead of "Lead"?

Nov 14, 07 - 04:36 pm Comment from: ron

When is the Bing Crosby iPod - in baby blue - coming out?

Nov 14, 07 - 04:39 pm Comment from: ron

"So why is it spelled "Led" instead of "Lead"?"

To keep up with the spelling in calleefornyu skools.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:39 pm Comment from: Jeff

Too bad their label isn't EMI. I won't be purchasing anything by them on iTunes because I no longer purchase anything with DRM. I only purchase DRM-free music ripped at 256kbit AAC.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:40 pm Comment from: oh my

@ Old Fart ...
One way to keep 'em off yer lawn is to let your St Bernard run around all day on the lawn !! LOL

Yep ... Led Zep is quite a coup for the ITMS !
Now, if only Stevo could find his way to add some of the obscure Bay Area bands from that era -- you'd have to wipe the smile off my face with a Brill-o pad !

@R2 ...
JZ ?? Who dat ? ... does he carry a tune or play an instrument ?

Nov 14, 07 - 04:41 pm Comment from: R2

Baby Boomers are becoming increasingly irrelevant. You're too old and scared to do much of anything. It's our time now.

Step aside, pops, while I work to support your social security income so you can afford that Dead Zeppelin album.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:45 pm Comment from: R2

Nobody plays instruments anymore, grandpop. The Japs surrendered a long time ago and the studios do all the work with computers now.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:53 pm Comment from: Bon

So where's my AC/DC???????

Nov 14, 07 - 04:55 pm Comment from: @R2

... that's sort of the problem.

Nov 14, 07 - 04:57 pm Comment from: Blahger

R2's either being awesomely sarcastic, or is awesomely idiotic. Either way, cheers to you!

@ Old Fart
My girlfriend has a great joke for you.

How do you keep the neighbors kids of your lawn?

You rape'm!

Classic.

Nov 14, 07 - 05:00 pm Comment from: @ron

Why is spelled "ron" and not "moron?"

Nov 14, 07 - 05:02 pm Comment from: oh my

.....Nobody plays instruments anymore, grandpop......

@R2 .... and this is a Good Thing .. because ..... ??

Point is ... it takes a little thing called TALENT to play an instrument ... and also to carry a tune !

Thats what {real} music is all about !! ...

Nov 14, 07 - 05:27 pm Comment from: sosumi

From Wikipedia: The group deliberately dropped the 'a' in Lead at the suggestion of their manager, Peter Grant, to prevent "thick Americans" from pronouncing it as "leed"

Nov 14, 07 - 05:34 pm Comment from: Abdullah

Grant knew the market he was going for.

Nov 14, 07 - 07:01 pm Comment from: Pete

I already have the complete LZ. I got it from the Limewire Music Store years ago.

Nov 14, 07 - 07:51 pm Comment from: Me in LA

@ R2,

YOU are the pathetic, irrelevant one.
If the future of the USA is in the hands of cowards and lazy-asses like you and your generation, we're doomed.
Jay-Z? Yeah, there's some talent.
Hopefully, the shallow nature of you punks will become increasingly apparent and the country can turn direction before it's too late.
As for affording the LZ set, I'm sure someone like you can't - unless mommy and daddy buy it for you.

(Jones/Page/Plant)

I received a message from my brother across the water
He sat laughin' as he wrote the end's in sight
So I said goodbye to all my friends
And packed my hopes inside a matchbox
'Cause I know it's time to fly

Come on, meet me in the morning, Meet me in the middle of the night
The morning light is comin', don't it make you wanna go and feel alright

I just jumped a train that never stops,
So now somehow I'll know I never finished payin' for my ride
Just n' someone pushed a gun into my hand
Tell me I'm the type of man to fight the fight that I'll require

Come on, meet me in the morning, Meet me in the middle of the night
The morning light is comin', don't it make you wanna go and feel alright

Oh, mama, well I think it's time I'm leavin'
Nothin' here to make me stay
Whoa, mama, well it must be time I'm goin'
They're knockin' down them doors
They're tryin' to take me away

Please Mr. Brakeman, won't you ring your bell. And ring loud and clear
Please Mr. Fireman, won't you ring your bell
Tell the people they got to fly away from here

I once saw a picture of a lady with a baby
Southern lady, had a very, very special smile
We are in the middle of a change in destination
When the train stops, all together we will smile
Oh, meet me in the morning. Won't you meet me in the middle of the night, night, night
Everybody know the mornin' time is comin'
Don't it make you wanna feel alright. Ah, ah, yeah
Make me feel alright. Fly now, baby
Get to fly, yeah. Fly now, baby

MDN MW: usually ; Lately, I usually find the majority of comments on this site to be shallow and idiotic.

"How do you keep the neighbors kids of your lawn?"

You do mean, "off", your lawn, don't you?

Nov 14, 07 - 10:14 pm Comment from: Blahger

Yeah, can't believe I missed that.

Nov 14, 07 - 10:34 pm Comment from: @Jubei

it's spelled 'Rutles', as in 'rut'. And I completely agree. They rule. And groups like The Stooges and the MC5 were redefining rock 'n roll for real when Zeppelin was still learning to play.

Nov 14, 07 - 11:45 pm Comment from: MacSheikh

@ Pete

"I already have the complete LZ. I got it from the Limewire Music Store years ago."

Their prices are pretty competitive. Or so i heard. wink

Nov 15, 07 - 07:05 am Comment from: Cubert

@sosumi,
They spelled it led so no one would pronounce it like the "lead" singer in a band.

@ron,
Does that Bing Crosby iPod in baby blue also have bruise marks on it?

wink

"Power, Mystery & the Hammer of the Gods"
Jimmy Page

Some said Clapton is god and sitting on a throne on high... I believe Clapton is sitting in Jimmy's seat.

Nuff said.
