Lexar Media announces new Crucial 800MHz FBDIMM memory modules for Apple Mac Pro
Wednesday, February 20, 2008 - 11:37 AM EST

Lexar Media today announced the immediate availability of Crucial 800MHz fully buffered DIMM (FBDIMM) memory modules, including modules designed specifically for Apple's new Mac Pro. The modules are available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB kits.

Crucial FBDIMMs provide reliable, OEM-quality memory at a very affordable price, and are backed by a limited-lifetime warranty. The Crucial System Scanner and Memory Advisor online tools--designed for both Mac and Windows PC platforms--offer a money-back memory compatibility guarantee that takes the guesswork out of choosing the right memory. Crucial.com carries over 35,000 upgrades for more than 250,0000 systems - including over 1,700 upgrade options specifically for Macs, which include the new Quad and 8 core Mac Pro and Xserve products.

"The new 800MHz FBDIMM modules feature density and performance improvements ideal for mission-critical servers and workstations which require maximum performance and a low error rate, without sacrificing the reliability Crucial products are known for throughout the industry," stated Jim Jardine, Lexar Media's senior product marketing manager, in the press release. "Mac users will also enjoy the same module density increases, performance boosts and reliability with the new 800MHz FBDIMM modules, including modules designed specifically for the new Mac Pro."

When I win the lottery I am buying all 8GB FBDIMMS for my MacPro directly from Apple.

Just my $0.02

@Ray
You do realize that Apple uses off the shelf parts for the memory. More than likely it is Crucial since there the top memory maker in the world.

I wish I did know what memory Apple puts in the Mac Pro....I am thinking of getting one soon...

i have been buying my ram from otherworldcomputing.com and crucial.com for years

I highly recommend both. They always beat Apple's prices.

Obviously no1 understands why Apple memory is so much more money then everyone else's.

The reason is because they install diamonds into each memory chip, allowing you to have bling on the INSIDE of your computer.

Apple has almost always used Hynix memory in the last few years.

Lexar makes Crucial? Their SD cards are pretty failure-prone and their RAM is overpriced. I'll stick with ramseeker.com

Feb 20, 08 - 01:41 pm Comment from: Raymond from DC

No, Lexar doesn't "make" Crucial; Crucial is just a supplier to them. Crucial is Micron, and they're always my first choice for RAM. Unless I'm mistaken, they're the last still manufacturing in the US.

You do realize that Ray was sarcastic?

I checked crucial/uk site for 8GB of RAM and its embarrassing how much they're asking for. Order from otherworldcomputing.com and get it shipped in. Even with duty charges it's still way lower than what crucial is asking for.

I used crucial before and the prices have always seemed good. But not this time.

Feb 21, 08 - 05:44 pm Comment from: @Brain Fart

Crucial is top quality RAM, don't compare it with cheap alternatives. And while it's as good, if not better, than the "official" RAM that comes with macs it costs only half as much.

Apple have always ripped people off with their RAM prices. A pity you can't buy macs with only 512mb fitted.

I've always bought machines with the absolute minimum RAM Apple will sell you and replaced with Crucial RAM.
