A reminder that Apple late last week sent out invitations to the media for a special event to be held in the Apple Town Hall on Apple's Cupertino, CA campus today, March 17, at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT to discuss the iPhone 3.0 software and SDK.

Nothing else is known about the event or who from Apple will present the information.

Last year, Apple held their special iPhone 2.0 roadmap event on March 6th and released iPhone 3G to the public on July 11, 2008.

Ok anyone else gonna use Top Sites in safari 4 to switch between the different ones? :D

Mar 17, 09 - 09:54 am Comment from: CD

Get ready for the whiners when cut and paste isn't even mentioned.
Personally, I would like to be able to print anything I select a la bluetooth and have a Spotlight app that searches systemwide before cut and paste. I'll cut and paste once, say "cool", and then never use it again, kinda like speech recognition on the Mac.
Forstall lacks a little personality, but he is sharp and convincing, so keep an eye on him down the road. Today will be a good test for him in the public eye.

I'm sure there's an underground challenge to hack Mac keynotes now that it happened before, so watch out and secure your stuff.

"Ok anyone else gonna use Top Sites in safari 4 to switch between the different ones? :D"

Why would I modify it to show a bunch of sites on a one-off basis when I can just open them in different tabs and switch between them as I see fit?

Apple is still ATT's bitch. If Steve Jobs had any balls he would have told ATT to stuff it and partnered with Verizon.

Mar 17, 09 - 10:11 am Comment from: Sarasota

Guess Apple is trying to beat Palm to the Punch

Mar 17, 09 - 10:12 am Comment from: curiosity

Gee, kat, maybe Apple didn't get to pick and choose. Maybe Verizon told Apple no.

Mar 17, 09 - 10:14 am Comment from: R2

This is going to blow. I can feel it now.

Mar 17, 09 - 10:29 am Comment from: Nathan

It'd be interesting to read something from Kat that DIDN'T read as if she was a troll...

R2,

Are you trying to be funny?

Mar 17, 09 - 10:45 am Comment from: mike k.

i'll be following iLounge's coverage ... oh no, wait, nevermind.

Mar 17, 09 - 10:47 am Comment from: TheConfuzed1

I'm hoping for higher capacity iPhones to go withthe new software.

Mar 17, 09 - 11:06 am Comment from: ecrabb

@Kat,
Have you considered that Apple told Verizon to stuff it and partnered with ATT instead? Maybe Verizon were a bunch of douchebags. Maybe they didn't want to revenue-share with Apple. Maybe they didn't want Apple and their non-feature-monetizing all-for-one-price plan phone. Maybe Apple specifically eliminated Verizon for some reason.

The point of all my prognostication is that you don't know a damn thing about any of the negotiations or the decision-analysis process that led to AAPL choosing ATT, and therefore your entire post is simply moronic.

Mar 17, 09 - 12:07 pm Comment from: Unapologetic Atheist

FOLDERS....FOLDERS.....FOLDERS....

and cut & paste.

Mar 17, 09 - 12:08 pm Comment from: Grrrr

I don't understand why everyone's so up in arms about cut and paste. I've wanted to do that maybe two or three times total since I've had my iphone. I want to use Flash in Safari almost every time I open my browser. For me, the best announcement I could hear today is that Safari on 3.0 will support flash (at least the video component), and if there's no flash announcement today, I'm going to write a letter to my congressman.

Mar 17, 09 - 12:31 pm Comment from: sherman

@everyone who doesn't care about cut and paste (such as Grrrr and CD)

When someone texts you a name and address, how else do you store it as a contact? When you find a web address on a web page how do you get it into Google maps? I don't have an iPhone because my Sprint deal is way too good to leave so I was just wondering. I don't think I could live without it.

Mar 17, 09 - 12:33 pm Comment from: MidWest Mac

Apple store is still online at 11:32 Central Time. Not counting on any new products available today, anyway . . .

Mar 17, 09 - 12:37 pm Comment from: spyinthesky

In the blue corner we have Steve Jobs, one of the most successful innovators, visionaries, marketeers and businessman in the modern age and in the red corner we have err kat, who thinks he doesn't have enough balls... nuf said.

"Tethering PLEASE!!!"

Try a Kensington lock.

smile

Mar 17, 09 - 01:18 pm Comment from: John C. Randolph

ecrabb,

The way I heard it from people who know is that Verizon turned down the iPhone, because they weren't willing to make the deal sight unseen the way that AT&T;was. I haven't heard that anyone got offended over it, it's just business.

So far (10:50am) it's all been about the SDK. No new end-user features yet, no glimpse of a new iPhone OS. I hope there's "one more thing"

Mar 17, 09 - 01:52 pm Comment from: MacDaddy

- Let go of AT&T;and allow others to play to.
- Give us something instead of Flash Player that does the job.
- Tethering please
- VOIP
- iChat
