LogMeIn: Access and control your Mac or Windows PC from anywhere with your iPhone or iPod touch
Thursday, December 18, 2008 - 09:52 AM EDT

LogMeIn Ignition for iPhone and iPod touch provides instant one-click access to your LogMeIn computers, directly from your Apple device.

It's a remote control for your Macs or - our condolences - Windows PC and all of the applications on them.

How to make your iPhone or iPod touch an extension of your work or home computer:

• Create a LogMeIn account
• Download the LogMeIn software to your Mac or Windows PC
• Choose between free remote access or annual subscription for premium remote access
• Login from your iPhone or iPod touch and click on the LogMeIn computer to wish to access
• Enjoy full keyboard, mouse, zoom and scroll control using touch screen, consistent with other iPhone/iPod touch applications
• Securely saves login information
• Option settings for optimizing the experience of connecting to and controlling the remote computer, including locking the remote computer's keyboard, blanking the screen of the remote computer and screen resolution

LogMeIn Ignition costs US$29.99. More info via Apple's iTunes App Store here.

MacDailyNews Take: That's one way to get copy-and-paste on your iPhone. wink

Whoa.

IMHO, we have barely begun to see the app-possibilities for the iPhone and Touch. The future looks so bright . . . you know the rest.

Or just use Jaadu VNC to do the exact same thing, no subscription required.

But more of the same is always nice. Shows just how far the iPhone and Touch have come in such a short time.

As long as it doesn't compete with chowmein, I'm down with it.

Yawn....been doing this for months with VNC for the iPhone.

VNC for my Mac.. and I use WinAdmin to remote desktop into my windows computer at work... WinAdmin is absolutely fantastic....

Now, this is a bit late, because I have been doing this on other people's iPhones with the built-in Safari and the LogMeIn website for ages... and it worked fine, so why do I need everyone to download this so that when I borrow their iPhones (I don't need one normally, but when I do I need them with Mac access)? It seems that LogMeIn have under-evaluated the huge and largely universal power of Safari and their website. I do love LogMeIn for what they do, though, because it's just cool.

1. MochaVNC and MochaVNC Lite in the appstore
can do this for Linux, Mac, or Windows PC
2. Based on features described by this app, I think this app is just a VNC app wrapped up in a different name?
But, yeah more choices is always good!

Hey, it's all good. Keep the VCN goodness coming!

Dec 18, 08 - 01:54 pm Comment from: Mr. Peabody

Is it secure? I run around the building managing two OS X servers from my iPod Touch using VNC, and no problems - Makes life a veritable luxury. I have wanted and needed the power to control these servers while off-site, but I just don't trust traditional VNC.

Any takers on security being an issue?

@iPhoner

MochaVNC Lite is a poorly written app (I haven't been courageous enough to try the full version). It is good to see alternatives though.

Dec 18, 08 - 02:21 pm Comment from: G4Dualie

Do you suppose we'll see many VNC employees here today?

Dec 18, 08 - 02:31 pm Comment from: Dave

OK Apple!!! Time has long passed for Apple Remote Desktop Admin for the iPhone. I'd have an iPhone right now, paid for by my company, if I had an ARD Admin software package to use on my iPhone. The iPhone uses leopard APIs....so what's the problem? VNC is there. SSL is there. VPN to get into the network is there. WiFi and 3G options are there. Remote Control is not the best part of ARD. VNC packages are good, but they can't do what ARD does. ARD is an Apple product. So, Apple, what's the problem?

Dec 18, 08 - 02:35 pm Comment from: apple _fan

can i listen to music from my computer via this software?

Dec 18, 08 - 02:39 pm Comment from: Brian Bufalo

The beauty of LogMeIn is the connection is secure. You don't have to set up a SSH server and VNC and then forward router ports. LogMeIn just works. Question about the iPhone app: Can you use a free account with LMI Ignition?

Does this mean I can access IE 7 and the MLX for real estate listing on my iPhone? Anyone?

Dec 18, 08 - 10:51 pm Comment from: Bread

LOL on take. I wish I wasn't getting an iPod for christmas. $229 dollars is so worth it.
