LogMeIn Ignition for iPhone and iPod touch provides instant one-click access to your LogMeIn computers, directly from your Apple device.

It's a remote control for your Macs or - our condolences - Windows PC and all of the applications on them.

How to make your iPhone or iPod touch an extension of your work or home computer:

• Create a LogMeIn account
• Download the LogMeIn software to your Mac or Windows PC
• Choose between free remote access or annual subscription for premium remote access
• Login from your iPhone or iPod touch and click on the LogMeIn computer to wish to access
• Enjoy full keyboard, mouse, zoom and scroll control using touch screen, consistent with other iPhone/iPod touch applications
• Securely saves login information
• Option settings for optimizing the experience of connecting to and controlling the remote computer, including locking the remote computer's keyboard, blanking the screen of the remote computer and screen resolution

Now, this is a bit late, because I have been doing this on other people's iPhones with the built-in Safari and the LogMeIn website for ages... and it worked fine, so why do I need everyone to download this so that when I borrow their iPhones (I don't need one normally, but when I do I need them with Mac access)? It seems that LogMeIn have under-evaluated the huge and largely universal power of Safari and their website. I do love LogMeIn for what they do, though, because it's just cool.

2. Based on features described by this app, I think this app is just a VNC app wrapped up in a different name?

Is it secure? I run around the building managing two OS X servers from my iPod Touch using VNC, and no problems - Makes life a veritable luxury. I have wanted and needed the power to control these servers while off-site, but I just don't trust traditional VNC.

Any takers on security being an issue?

MochaVNC Lite is a poorly written app (I haven't been courageous enough to try the full version). It is good to see alternatives though.

OK Apple!!! Time has long passed for Apple Remote Desktop Admin for the iPhone. I'd have an iPhone right now, paid for by my company, if I had an ARD Admin software package to use on my iPhone. The iPhone uses leopard APIs....so what's the problem? VNC is there. SSL is there. VPN to get into the network is there. WiFi and 3G options are there. Remote Control is not the best part of ARD. VNC packages are good, but they can't do what ARD does. ARD is an Apple product. So, Apple, what's the problem?

The beauty of LogMeIn is the connection is secure. You don't have to set up a SSH server and VNC and then forward router ports. LogMeIn just works. Question about the iPhone app: Can you use a free account with LMI Ignition?
