I got my iPhone stolen... so gimme a free one. No need for Mac software for me at this point.

I'm effervescent with joy! Count me in. wink

Why do they need a password?????

Dec 20, 07 - 06:38 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

I'm not sure I want to give my info to a website created by a company called MacHeistLLC... maybe it's just me.

Dec 20, 07 - 06:38 pm Comment from: DWS

"What's the catch?"

This is yet another attempt by the MacHeist folks to increase its database of registered users. Previous efforts have gone awry; for MacHeist, registered users and independent software developers.

There are many sides to every story, so a litte Googling of "MacHeist" might be recommended.

The catch is that they conveniently substitute "in" for the words "towards the purchase of":

"upon sign-up people will immediately receive over $50 [towards the purchase of] Mac software including Ambrosia Software’s popular audio capturing application WireTap Pro, holiday shopping list application Santa’s Gizmo, and secure encryption application BitClamp"

Seriously, you can't expect to get something for free. Nothing that you'd want anyways.

So what you're saying is, this "Christmas Gift" isn't free at all? ;_;

Dec 20, 07 - 07:20 pm Comment from: misanthrope

If I want something free, I'll steal it myself.

Can Jews, Muslims and Hindus get gifts?

Dec 20, 07 - 08:19 pm Comment from: Dreil

No, they are giving it away for free CHM. All the stuff in MH except for the final bundle is free of charge, they are just doing this as a way of increasing number of participants.

Wiretap Pro is completely free (along with the other software).

Dec 20, 07 - 09:06 pm Comment from: TowerTone

It is a free trial of Wiretap Pro.

Dec 20, 07 - 09:22 pm Comment from: @CHM

I have gotten free software from MacHeist before. They like to give away full versions shareware as promotion for the developers and software, not to mention increasing their mailing list, etc.

When it comes to shareware, sometimes you do get something for nothing.

Dec 20, 07 - 10:05 pm Comment from: mac user 47

You do get a free version of Wiretap Pro - not a trial. It's just not eligible toward upgrades, but it's still free.

Dec 20, 07 - 10:41 pm Comment from: TowerTone

OK, well, what I saw said "download trial version for free" and then had a price. I already have it so I didn't download.

Is my Lyxdesia/didn't stop, to hell with going blind/acid flashback trilogy affecting my reading again?

Dec 20, 07 - 11:32 pm Comment from: MacSmiley

Well, let's see. Wiretap used to be free, and Wiretap Pro used to cost $19. But neither Wiretap nor Wiretap pro are to be found on Ambrosia's website. They have replaced the two of them with Wiretap Studio... So if you get Wiretap Pro, I suppose, it will cost you $30 just to upgrade from Wiretap pro to Wiretap Studio! Otherwise, what kind of support will they give for an old application they're no longer making?

Gizmo is already freeware.

I've never heard of bitClamp until today, but it's evidently $20 shareware.

Just the facts, ma'am.

I downloaded WireTap Pro from MH. The download said freebie installer. The link I clicked was right about the website and price of the software. Download Now. I've installed it and it didn't ask for any reg info nor did I see a place to input some, so I am assuming it is truly free.

Dec 21, 07 - 02:13 pm Comment from: AA

I'm downloading WireTap Pro and will see if it's a trial or free.

Dec 21, 07 - 05:49 pm Comment from: neomonkey

How do you download WireTap Pro? I'm not seeing any way to do it on MacHeist's site, even after signing up for the giving tree.

Dec 21, 07 - 06:21 pm Comment from: Mark

I emailed Ambrosia software and asked them if this offer was real or not and they replied back to me today and said Ambrosia indeed did sponsor it and that it's legit!

Very cool...

Dec 21, 07 - 08:49 pm Comment from: neomonkey

Nevermind. I didn't click the right arrow before. Doh!
