Mac OS X 10.3 Panther ‘Piles’ screenshots posted online
Saturday, April 26, 2003 - 08:09 PM EST

Apple-X.net claims to have received a little surprise in their email containing two screen shots supposedly from Mac OS 10.3 Panther that show Piles. According to their source the images are from an early build of 10.3, build 7D15.

Apple-X.net states, "While it is not known wether or not these images are real, I guess we will just have to wait and see if we receive cease-and-desist order, thus proving validity of the images. So for now I leave the decision to you."

The screen shots clearly show 'Piles' on the desktop as well as implemented in the Mac OS X Finder's 'File' menu as the command 'New Pile."

The article and screenshots are here. (Updated link Sunday, 4/27, 11:02 AM EDT)

Expect to see a fake C&D;to "prove validity". That being said, it really looks cool. I hope we see more at WWDC.

Heh that screenshot is funny. Who ever made it, well done.. but you havnt convinced me. There's lots of things wrong with it... the main thing of course is apple would never use that desktop picture! you know apple only ever uses the default one... cus its the best. And any screenshots that did leak out of apple would contain a few more features than that irregular pile of files... i hope. Im going off to make my own 10.3 screenshots now :D

Apple-X.net switched URL's. We have updated the link in our article to Apple-X.net to take you to Panther 'Piles' article and screenshots.

Thanks pkradd for the heads-up.

And why is a "pile" better than a folder - not being a wise-ass...

Helios:

Umm... If you have Panther don't you think you could *change* the desktop picture? It's never been painted as an official apple shot--it's supposed to be rogue.

Heh im not basing the whole "this is liez" thing on just the desktop picture... but if this is a rogue, you think he would do better to show more features, and get a better desktop picture, i mean panther has to have some new l33t desktop pictures... hes no rogue unless he has them!! most important thing! and id imagine easyier to steal than a whole operating system.

It's funny that they talk about "being hammered" and the traffic isn't that high. Must be a hella cheap host to have 300 sites on one box (probably why it couldn't take a little traffic).
