“Bug reports from the early builds were spotted in November and as early as December Mac OS X 10.7 signatures appeared in web logs from Apple-owned IP addresses,” Arnold Kim reports for Mac Rumors. “More spottings have been since reported, and we’ve found Mac OS X 10.7 signatures in our own web logs.”

Kim reports, “John Gruber had said he had heard that Mac OS X 10.7 would be ready for developer release by WWDC this June.”

MacDailyNews Note: Beginning with 3 visits on October 29, 2009, through today we have had several hundred visits from an OS identifying as Mac OS X 10.7.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Lynn W.” for the heads up.]
I just upgraded Tiger to SL, now what?
Clouded Leopard right? Cool
I’m guessing it wll have dual interfaces… one for ‘docked’ os x, and one for ‘slate’ os x
Again, we’ll have to wait and see.
What ever it is, I’ll have to support it!
If it’s only $29, we should have a new major release every year. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” /> Sooner rather than later would make sense for the next release, since Snow Leopard was marketed as an optimization of Leopard. Not that there’s anything wrong with Snow Leopard; I think its great, and I’d probably be happy using it for the next five years.
Even if it’s not imminent… I’m sure it will be snappier…
If Snow Leopard is considered an extension of Leopard, then I’d say June is likely for .7. Otherwise, I think it’s a bit of stretch to consider another OS X version only a year after Snow Leopard was released.
Now can we have 10.6.3, already. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
The next version of OS X will be known as “House Cat.”
“Gary
The next version of OS X will be known as “House Cat.”
Better known as “Kitten.”
Already!!?
Apple ough to donate part of the profit to saving these species
“…..the early builds were spotted….”
So, it’s another leopard then.

The article is saying a DEVELOPER release may be ready by June, not a commercial release..
A commercial release would likely be 8-12 months after a developer release, so we are easily looking at mid 2011.
Ice cougar
Get ready because 10.8 will be called OctoPussy
@ Micro Me – LOL!!
Oh, paleeez, Mary! In Safari, if you have the Developer menu activated, you can create your own user agent. I just made mine…
“Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_0); en-us) AppleWebKit/626.09.0 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.8 Safari/605.00.07”
Why’s everyone so gullible?
It will be called Garfield.
Should be called Sylvester the Cat
Of course Apple has started development of 10.7. They always start it by the time the current OS is released. The build # will be something like 11A001 where 11 is the eleventh version of OSX (including the early betas and dev previews), A is the first major dev branch and 001 etc are the sequential builds. SL is currently at 10C540.
Whether we will see a dev preview in June is questionable. The time between OS releases are increasing as the platform has matured. The transition to Intel is complete and any major enhancements can be handled in the short term with new updates to SL.
Lion is an obvious name for OSX but Apple will probably keep that when Windows has finally fallen to pieces. There’s still Cougar, Ocelot, Lynx among others.
I tawt I taw a puddy tat
They can’t call it Cougar until it’s at least 40 years old…
@ken1w
It will not be $29.00 dollars. Of this, I can assure you. Snow Leopard was a maintenance release, per say. It really did not provide new features as so much as under the hood enhancements. 10.7 will be a full blown feature rich Windows 7 obliterating release.
@ninetimesoutoften
Cougar has been already used. I think it was 10.1
Will be called pussy…lol
I have run into countless PC > Mac switchers lately. This is going to be a huge year for the Mac, and everything Apple.
