MacHeist will be donating 25% of net sales to eight participating charities, including United Way Internation, Direct Relief International, AIDS Research Alliance, PreventCancer.org, The Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, The Hunger Project, and Save the Children.

In addition, the popular RSS aggregator application, NewsFire, and the award-winning text editor, TextMate, will be unlocked for all customers when sums of $50,000 and $100,000 have been raised for the charities, respectively.

“Our mission is to increase awareness of Mac shareware, while supporting several great causes in the name of the Mac community,” said event co-founder Phillip Ryu, in the press release.

The sale will last for one week, and end on midnight, EST, December 17th.

  1. This is a fantastic value! I already own RapidWeaver and FotoMagico. They are truly excellent tools that exemplify the best in Mac software. If I didn’t already own these two apps I’d go for this bundle in a heartbeat.

Has anyone else had experience with the other apps in the bundle?

  2. 83% discount. Just to put that into perspective:

    Total value of apps: $288.75
    Bundle Price: $49.00
    Total saving: 239.75

And most of them are great apps as well. I bought it for iClip 4, Shapeshifter, FotoMagico, NewsFire and TextMate really, but the others are useful too.

I was holding off on shareware buying till now and I’m glad of it.

But I got mine for $34 (bought 2 at once for $78 with $10 heister discount off). Other one was for my brother.

  3. “An idea like MacHeist comes along once in a generation.” That’s like saying that an idea like Windows comes along once in a generation.

MacHeist is a pale imitation of MacZOT, just like Windows was and is a pale imitation of Mac OS/OS X.

  4. This is really good value, besides the fact that a percentage goes to a charity as well.

I’m hoping for an unlock for TextMate. C’mon guys, sign up and buy your good-quality software today! Save a packet, support the good shareware folks and the charities… and let’s get the total over $100k, currently at around $20k… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
