Mexico’s America Movil to sell Apple iPhone across Latin America this year
Wednesday, May 07, 2008 - 02:49 PM EDT

Mexico's America Movil, the largest cell phone operator in Latin America, said on Wednesday it will sell Apple's iPhone across its Latin American operations from this year.

America Movil is the leading provider of wireless services in Latin America. As of September 30, 2007, it had 149 million wireless subscribers and nearly 4 million landlines in the Americas.

"America Movil, which operates in 16 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the United States, did not disclose financial details. It did not say if it was an exclusive accord," Chrs Apsin reports for Reuters. "It competes with Spain's Telefonica for supremacy in the region."

@MacDoc

Frack you!

I have lived in Mexico for over 12 years, these are the hardest working, most honest people you will find anywhere, and guess what, family values still mean something!

We don't worry about locking the doors to the casa,we still leave the keys to the car, in the car, with an iPod in its dock!

You are just trying to be funny, or just ignorant !!

by the way, mexico has never had a school shooting, nor in 12 years have I ever heard a gun shot!

I will admit, I do not live in a border city, where drug gangs run, trying to get a piece of action in supplying the US of A's incredible appetite for drugs

Jajajajaja, No hay "America Movil en Mexico"

There is no "America Movil in Mexico. There is Movistar, Unefone, Iusacel, nextel and Telcel (part of of America movil of Carlos Slim).

It is too bad that America Movil will get the iPhone because they are always charging you with "Ghost" calls and charges that nobody knows where they came from. But any way, I have my Unlocked iPhone from almost a year ago.

May 07, 08 - 04:00 pm Comment from: HotinPlaya

Victor, are you using a TelCel data plan (can you get one to use)
or amigo "pay as you go"

May 07, 08 - 04:36 pm Comment from: Artist

Considering how much Apple stock Carlos Slim owns, this shouldn't
be a surprise.

So, it's not called Taco Bell?

(j/k, really)

May 07, 08 - 05:15 pm Comment from: binkie

@ Mac Enthusiast

Do I get a whiff of the stench of a liberal whiner? Oh, the poor people, they wouldn't steal. Of course not; they are poor, and they are better than we are. We must bow to their greatness.

Tacos para cada uno.

@hotin
No, I used a calling plan with them, but I have cancel it because of the same reason, now I am using "Amigo" prepaid cards with my iPhone. (replaced a Nokia 5300 express music that you can not use to listen to music because it drains the battery too fast).

But thanks for the tip pal.

May 07, 08 - 06:25 pm Comment from: Alf

Yep!!... Telcel is not good ... it services covered all the country but are expensive... very expensive.

Let see what offer for an iPhone plan... will be very interesting to see if an unlimited data plan is offer or not.

Beside... telcel is just deploying is 3G network... so at startup will be buggy and possible slow (compared versus other 3G already existing networks like movistar).

One thing that is bother me is... will be an iTunes Mexico store in order to properly activate the iPhone? or will be a telcel owned process?... right now is no iTunes store in Mexico and just a few months ago the Apple store began to operate in the country; so I hope that also means an iTunes store for Mexico!

If is a 3G iPhone.... then also open the possibility to be used in others networks like movistar that at least now offer more services and content than Telcel new 3G network (and cheaper too).

Cheers!!

Alf

oh yeah, the wonderful people of Mexico, so hard working and all. Must be a real Utopia south of the border.

Mexico should build a fence on it's Northern border just to keep all the Americans from trying to get into their wonderful country.

"I have lived in Mexico for over 12 years, these are the hardest working, most honest people you will find anywhere..."

You really need to travel more grin

hardest working, most honest people???? In Mexico????

You really REALLY need to visit a few more areas in the world.

Wait a minute!
Is crossing the border with an iPhone a violation of EULA or is Apple granting amnesty?
