“Dell Inc. Wednesday unveiled its second tablet computer, a move that expands its portfolio of mobile devices and joins the list of competitors for Apple Inc.’s iPad,” Ian Sherr reports for The Wall Street Journal.
“The seven-inch tablet will run Google Inc.’s Android smartphone operating system, Chief Executive Michael Dell told an audience at an Oracle Corp. conference in San Francisco,” Sherr reports. “He didn’t provide other technical details or its expected release date.”
Sherr reports, “Dell released its first tablet device, dubbed the Streak, earlier this year in Europe before releasing it in the U.S. last month… The $299 Streak’s impact on Dell’s financial performance is expected to be muted.”

MacDailyNews Take: Impotent.
i get a STREAK in my underwear after bad chinese food
Flaccid failure.
Michael Dell. Bwaaaaa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Michael Dell couldn’t get flat tire fixed in tire shop – and there ain’t gonna be an iPad killer either.
Doomed to epic fail.
Twice today word “muted” has been used. Feeling mellow….
Is this Dell’s iPod touch killer? Does Michael Dell know that Apple gives the iPod touch away FREE with every student Mac that is bought every summer? Is Michael Dell going to give these sad tablet computers away with every PC they can sell?
Michael Dell, GIVE THE MONEY BACK AND CLOSE THE DOORS. This is very sad. Do the right thing Michael Dell. Take your own advice before Chapter 11 is knocking on that door.
will the new Dell tablet be “just a big DJ Ditty” ?
Somebody should tell Michael that today, AAPL > MSFT + 2*DELL
Hey Mikey, how about putting up a picture of Steve Jogs and say: We’re coming after you, we have you in our sights.
Opps, sorry you can’t cause Apple isn’t even in your sights you are so far back!

One more nail in the coffin. One more reason not to be excited about Dell.
Why does Dell even bother?
Dell, 7 inch iPad killer?
Nuts.
@HuskerMac
Because every industry needs its comic relief

When pressed for more information, Michael Dell relented…”OK, we don’t really know how to make an iPad killer, but we’re sure SOMEONE out there is.”
It will have 2 buttons, but they will be very close together.

All these guys do is play the market game. Unimaginative bile is the only product they ever put out. It’s obviously not working too well in the phone, tablet and media player arenas. Seriously guys. You’re never going to release an awesome product if you’re always trying to do a better job of making another company’s product. Why don’t they understand this?
@ChrissyOne
Yes two buttons one on and the other “kill.” Dell is doomed!
Exclusive! Streak prototype picture!
I found the thing on a bar stool at the Dew Drop Inn and am holding it hostage until Dell pays me 38 cents in low-denomination coins placed inside a burlap sack dropped into a litter bin next to the A&W.
@ChrissyOne: Waaay too close together.
Beleaguered Dell is feeling muted.
Ooh, a slate computer – how creative.
Don’t knock it till you see how many ports it has.
Then you can knock it.

From the article;
“Dell released its first tablet device, dubbed the Streak, earlier this year in Europe before releasing it in the U.S. last month. That device has a five-inche (sic) screen—half the size of the iPad’s display”
<etymological nitpick>Depends on what they mean by “size”, Since 5″ is the diagonal measure, the Streak’s screen is just a bit more than half the diagonal measure of the iPad’s 9.7 screen, which makes it a little more than 1/4 the “size” – if the word is taken to mean “area”. </etymological>
But then, size isn’t everything.
Any “7-inch” (or 5-inch) tablet is intentionally designed to be different enough from iPad to deflect direct comparison. It’s not an “iPad killer,” it’s an iPad avoider. No competitor is remotely prepared (in hardware or software) to take on iPad.
