Reminds me of the almost unbelievably crappy auto-accompaniments that electronic organs used to spit out in the 70's.

There has to be a bottomless pit somewhere that we can throw the makers of this video.

When was that second laptop in the video made? The 1970s? It must have been 4" think! LOL! No wonder they had to use MBP in the first scene.

Wow. I'm almost speechless. That was as bad, or worse than watching a high school drama department production of some cheesy Broadway musical.

Wow. Microsoft crapola marketing continues into 2009.

Even if doing a viral in such a way is to increase 'viewings' of the Ad, the problem lies in that the views are from the wrong kind of target market - i.e. Mac users.

Yes, OS X is killing Windows. But, Apple customers are great customers for Microsoft's other products. (Like Microsoft Office)

It could be that the other departments at Microsoft are just waving the white flag and looking for their next sale or next big thing. About 1/3 of the students in college are Mac users now and they want those customers.

They should put a sticker on the oversized (I'm sure) Songsmith packages:

"WARNING: PRODUCT MAY NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED."

Have we forgotten that Apple is a hardware company AND a software company? If you must run Windows, Apple makes great hardware for it. If you want to demonstrate Songsmith, why not use the best available hardware? A Mac running Windows is still a notch in Apple's revenue.

MS is a master at producing the most cringe-inducing viral ads known to man. Incredibly, that's their goal, because they are funny people who know how to laugh at themselves. Of course, that's supposed to raise our respect for them, but instead, we just cringe at the truth.

But the concept of the product is not that bad. really. It sounds like a fun thing for tweens and if its price is say... $19.95 then who knows....

Hey you think the add is bad, just wait until you try the application.

I think the reason that MS used a MacBook for that particular ad was a misguided attempt to dilute the "cool factor" of Apple products. And, PS, stickers on a Dell laptop might be actually necessary, but on a MacBook Pro? Would never happen in real life.

God... that was the hardest laugh I've had in a long time! Tho old and now little used adjective "dippy" came to mind. I do think it is a very cool concept though. I just can't fathom why anyone would want to make music that sounded like THAT these days. It reminded me of what was known as "bubble gum" music back in the '70's. Absolutely sappy. As if MS needed another product that makes them look uncool. What are they thinking?
