I don't get what the point of this would be. Does anyone go buy a MacBook at 4AM?

For when you need that iPod accessory fix at 3 AM...

Maybe no at 4am, but definitely yes at 2am...

Nuflux, the store is NYC, not Lickanus, Wisconsin. Yeah, people will buy MacBooks at 4 AM in New York. And software, and anything else you can imagine. 4 AM in Manhatten is roughly equivalent to 7 p.m. anywhere else. The number of New Yorkers getting off work between 2-4 a.m. would, by themselves, equal or exceed the population of the second or third largest city in quite a few states, and the largest in a few others.

I should add--for those of you who don't live in NY, this area of midtown is not exactly buzzing with activity late-night.

Now Windoze users have to be extra careful when going out for a late night of drinking. Imagining a Winodoze user waking up the next day and finding that he's switched to Mac, Las Vegas style!

considering it's in NYC, 'the city that never sleeps', no surprise, besides computer nerds are infamous for having terrible sleeping habits.

It's Manhattan, not "Manhatten," and I live here. And despite your fantasy of "the city that never sleeps," believe me, it's not what you think--especially at the GM building on 5th Ave. East Village--sure, I could see an all-night store there. But not midtown.

Having lived a couple of blocks from this new store, I highly doubt it will be open 24/7. While that corner is very busy with tourists during the day, it is a virtual ghost town after 7 or 8pm.

NYC is billed as the city that never sleeps, but few businesses in NYC are actually open very convenient hours (many banks close at 3:30pm!)...let alone 24 hours. The only things open 24 hours are the corner delis.

Between the new Midtown location and the existing Soho location, both in Manhattan, the Soho one is a MUCH better choice to go 24/7.

Under the cover of darkness... at 3:49:23 AM the sad Gollum.. i mean windows Admin can come into the Apple store and buy that MacBook Pro without being caught by his kind or made fun of by the Mac Elites...

Thats the only way hardened Windows pricks can come in and take a look at and buy MACS without being caught in the light of day!!!!

This new retail store is very similar to the Louvre plaza in Paris, with the exception of a cube instead of a pyramid.

Nobody realizes the importance of 24 hour stores. There is nothing worse than wanting to go to the store (or anywhere, for that matter) but having it be closed. All of the 24 hour K-marts in my area shut down, and it is driving me crazy.

I like the cube though. I hope Apple introduces an intel 64 bit cube like it's older brother the G4 cube.

Umm.. just to pick nits, "32 foot by 32 foot" doesn't describe a cube.. it describes a square. Just saying "32 foot cube" would suffice, as would "32 ft by 32 ft by 32 ft cube" though that would be redundant.

4 am will probably be the only time you can get into the store.

NYC is one of the biggest art and publishing cities on earth, many things get during the middle of the night to meet deadline using Mac's.

The existance of a 24/7 Apple Store is definatly welcome and that's it's in a quiet area at night is even better.

There will be a line going around several blocks upon it's grand opening.

Apple would do good to stock well the store with art supplies, mouse pads and everything else.

Everything I know about New York, I leared from "Hackers".

Yeah, but they make excellent apple butter in Lickanus. And the Lions club accepts new members any time. There is a tongue length requirement however. Gene Simmons is considered a god there.

Will there be a giant DVD slot on top of the store? And a master power switch that glows?

A little over a decade ago I worked for The Good Guys (retail electronics chain a la Circuit City) in their 24/7 Hollywood store. Many, many, many big wigs (actors, directors, producers, musicians etc) shopped at those hours and spent a ton of $$. They don't like getting hassled by the general public or tabloid folks, thus shop late...err. early. Also many would get off of the set or other late night gig and buy an expensive toy or gadget on their way home. So this NY site might do well for those desiring to buy at night. And don't forget, when you're working under an important deadline to finish a project and crash a hard drive of get a bad firewire cable, it'll be the only computer store open for 100 miles. You WILL make the drive.

I'm all for it, but is not really the most appropriate part of town for a 24 hour retail store.
SOHO is more active at 3AM than midtown... Maybe the (my) SOHO location will follow suit?
