Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 09:51 AM EDT

"Marc Andreessen, founder of Netscape, and co-founder of LoudCloud (Opsware) and Ning has finally said good bye to the Windows life, and switched to a Mac. We met for a coffee earlier this morning and while most of the conversation was private, I warned him that the 'switch' news was going to be blogged," Om Malik reports for GigaOM.

Malik reports, "He switched to a Macbook Pro (15-inch model). 'I used to be a Mac user till 1994,' he said, 'and now I am a Mac user again.'"

Just switched my mother-in-law, and she couldn't be happier! No more malware, no more spyware, no more viruses/worms/trojans, ad infinitum! And her Mac Mini hasn't slowed down by so much as a second since she began using it--unlike her Gateway, which was beginning to run backwards in time with each passing day on the web.

Good riddance PC/Win!

Marc would be an interesting guy to talk to. I don't know how he stayed on Windows for so long after what Microsoft did (illegally) to Netscape.

The 15" MBP is the best notebook in the lineup! Good choice!

Feb 28, 07 - 11:27 am Comment from: Quad Core

I am currently teaching somebody how to use FCP (and OSX for that matter). The guy I am teaching was a Windows user for many, many years and he said, "I don't know what it is, but there is somethng about the mac that just feels better. I just really enjoy using it.

As for...

"...so long after what Microsoft did (illegally) to Netscape."

We may not like it, but there was nothing illegal about it. If using hardware to tie in software that takes marketshare from a competitor were illegal, then the nut cases attacking the ipod/itunes would have merrit.

Feb 28, 07 - 11:31 am Comment from: BustingTheSkullsOfIdiots

I think the point about illegality was requiring IE on the desktop (strong-arming OEMs), coding Windows so that Netscape ran slower, and so on. There's plenty of evidence for Microsoft's illegal activities in this regard.

Bought my significant other a MBP 17" for Christmas. When she went back to work after the holidays she said he work computer (running Windows 2K) suddenly looked and felt like an ancient museum piece!

Agreed. I've got a 17" MBP and this puppy is a chore to lug around. I thought I'd get used to it, but the 15" MBP I sold to get this one is a tough act to follow.

I'm hoping the 15" MacBook does make it to market. Then, I'd buy that for portable use and buy a Mac Pro for home use.
