Next-gen Apple iLife goes gold
Thursday, July 05, 2007 - 12:35 PM EDT

"Sources informed MacScoop that the development of the next iteration of iLife has reached the Golden Master phase. The consumer software suite could ship before the release of Leopard, which is now slated for October," Alexandros Roussos reports for MacScoop.

"The development of the new iLife suite was actually finished a few weeks ago and there's nothing preventing Apple from releasing it during the summer or early September, sources told MacScoop," Roussos reports.

Jul 05, 07 - 12:41 pm Comment from: G4Dualíe

That's the best news I've heard all day!

Jul 05, 07 - 12:42 pm Comment from: iHaveNoLife

But what's new/exciting in it that will make me want to buy it?

Jul 05, 07 - 12:44 pm Comment from: Sources Close To The Developer...

tell me that the new suite is largely based on Neo Office.

Jul 05, 07 - 12:45 pm Comment from: MegaMe

Will they hold it until MMSF08?

It is not worthy of a special event all by itself.

Jul 05, 07 - 12:47 pm Comment from: Bilbo Faggins

Well, shucks if MacScoop is reporting it, it must be true. Who the fuck are they?

MW word: "Before"
As in, I've never heard of them before.

Jul 05, 07 - 12:49 pm Comment from: iMat

and iWork?

First expected in january... :/

Jul 05, 07 - 12:50 pm Comment from: Petey

I hope they are updating iWeb!

I want:

- Create my own templates without hacking the Apple ones!
- Customisable and repositional nav bars and sub menus
- Flash movie and animated .gif import

Jul 05, 07 - 12:50 pm Comment from: Toasty!

Neo Office? You must be confusing iLife with iWork.

Jul 05, 07 - 12:52 pm Comment from: Tommy Boy

Who cares unless it runs on the iPhone?

Jul 05, 07 - 12:54 pm Comment from: Georgy Porgy

"It is not worthy of a special event all by itself."

It is five awesome programs for $79 and IS worthy of a special event all by itself.
If you haven't tried it...now is the time.
Our company has used iLife to do its promotional DVD to get university clients. We bring us to them on DVD instead of them having to find us and see what we are about. Total cost: a Sony firewire video camera, iLife, several hundred printable blank DVD's, Disclabel software, and some ink for the Epson Stylus Photo R220.
It has paid for itself twenty times over and continues to do so. iLife is easy to figure out as you go along and is worth every penny. Try it! Compare the price for barely comparable programs on the PC, not to mention the hassles and learning curve. The media integration of each program is worth its weight in gold.

Ah yes, the smell of fresh rumors in the morning...

Jul 05, 07 - 01:00 pm Comment from: Reality Check

Don't get too excited. Chances are there a more than a few apps in there that use some of the Leopard only features dealing with core annimation, etc...

Best case scenario: If the apps work in Tiger you probably won't get the full experience that you will get after Leopard is installed.

Worst case scenario: The apps won't work without Leopard installed and therefore Apple will not release it before Leopard.

Really. When is the site changing its name to iPhoneDailyNews?

Don't get me wrong, I stood in line, I almost couldn't wait for my iPhone but its time to get back to the Mac. And Yes Apple created both of them but its not AppleDailyNews (hmm maybe it should be)
Just checked seems like an open domain.
So MDN, Apple had a name change maybe it is time you guys considered it grin cuz I do look to you guys first to see what is happening in the world of Steve.

I will change my bookmark to reflect this.

Enjoy

The headline caught my eye when I confused iLife with iWork.

Moving on...

Jul 05, 07 - 01:18 pm Comment from: Wingsy

If they haven't fixed the blurry still image problem in imovie, I ain't buying it.

Jul 05, 07 - 01:20 pm Comment from: Jonahan

They will or should release before Leo. As with most other versions and a new OS X some stuff just doesn't work like in iLife '06 the new themes didn't work in 10.3.

I'm sure Tommy Boy's remark was with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. It's kind of weird to see to see Mac related news after so much iPhone buzz. I feel calmer now.

Jul 05, 07 - 01:29 pm Comment from: DJ Jac

For me, this is big news.
iLife to me is $10,000 worth of software, for $89 CAD.
Ridiculous! Absurd! Fantastic!
= Apple

Jul 05, 07 - 01:33 pm Comment from: Tommy Boy

I don't think Tommy Boy's remarks are ever NOT made with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. raspberry

How stupid are you. iLife has no relation what soever to NeoOffice. I'm guessing your thinking about iWork. Pull your head out and think before you type.

Jul 05, 07 - 01:39 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

My guess is that it will be released in the summer to help with the back to school sales.

Jul 05, 07 - 01:58 pm Comment from: Ricky Williams

When can I but an iBong ?

Jul 05, 07 - 02:07 pm Comment from: hotinplaya

I hope they release soon, and I am hoping for an updated iWeb.
Last spring I was trying to get someone to do a web site for me, who spoke english(I live in Mexico) could not find anyone, started to play around with iWeb and with great help on the the Apple discussion forum, did my own. I had to do some post publishing work (with help) but over all, cant believe I did myself, and it came with my iMac!! (my budget was $2,000us for my web site) saved more than my iMac cost me!!

I didn't see the word "rumor" anywhere in the headline or story.

Jul 05, 07 - 02:54 pm Comment from: @Bilbo

"Well, shucks if MacScoop is reporting it, it must be true. Who the fuck are they?"

Macscoop is the rumor site formally known as MacOSXRumors.com... it's been around for quite a few years now...

I think they changed names so they weren't so closely related to MacOSRumors.com which sucks.

Jul 05, 07 - 03:09 pm Comment from: Yours Smugly

About time. I've been waiting for this puppy. IWeb has lots of potential, but many problematic things and lacking features must be dealt with first. I hope iLife 07 (or whatever it will be called) addresses these issues.

Jul 05, 07 - 03:38 pm Comment from: Twisted Mac Freak

It's about time GarageBand added some decent cowbell.

Jul 05, 07 - 03:46 pm Comment from: Will

I'm lovin' the CowBell!

Jul 05, 07 - 04:16 pm Comment from: Chris

You know what would be awsome, if Apple bundled iWork together with iLife. If that happened then iLife will be one of the only programs you would ever need. Every Mac would pretty much be set in terms of apps, and you wouldn't have to buy pricey Microsoft Office.

Yet leave it at the same prices.

Jul 05, 07 - 04:39 pm Comment from: DLMeyer

GarageBand: STUFF the cowbell ... will I be able to edit my pod casts IN GarageBand? Or must I continue to Export/Edit-in-Amadeus/Import for reasonable results. Yes, I know they've included "some editing" in GB3, but it is not as flexible, easy, OR precise as the tools in Amadeus II.
iWeb: very much in need of an upgrade. v1 was amusing, interesting, flashy, and a great tool for creating Text Images for other software. It also works great for helping folks who don't want to know squat about creating "stuff" for the web go right ahead and create great looking stuff for the web. Change something other than the basic content? Not so easy.
iMovie: I may be using this new edition ... need a new camera first.
iPhoto: PLANNING on getting a "real" camera to use this.
iDVD: might actually get to play with this. A little. Play.

5 Bucks says ilife 07 and/or iWork 07 is going to provide some sort of iPhone applications, like pages mobile or something.

Hence why they have said nothing about either product.

and apple please add a "save picture" to emails pleasE!!

Jul 06, 07 - 12:28 pm Comment from: macman

iMovie better support USB2 and AVCHD or it'll be a worthless update.
